Looks great Will, especially like the one with shell eyes, wish I lived a bit closer for Hukilau.

8 carves in, BAMM, a few seconds
U fast bruddah
They all look great
Like da big ones best

This garden variety full body Moai is palm.
That is only to the waist as
I've never seen Moai legs.

Love it
I’m thinking that would make a killer necklace
You may need chain instead of rope to hold it
:)
Cheers bruddah
Keep it up

Only found 2 pics of legs

Cheers

Ps- I assume he sitting because he’s tired from carrying his head around
:)

Here's an up & coming project
as soon as I cut it down.

That's not a log it's timber Will.

Nice to see ya drop by Bill.
That pine log is about
16 ft tall & 3 ft wide.
I call it a Florida long needle pine.
They have them up in Georgia.
They call them Georgia long needle pines.
Go figure.

I cranked out a bunch more pendants.
They aren't finished yet.

T

Awesome will. The two on the bottom look similar to one I made a few weeks ago. Except mine sort of caved on in itself when it dried.... Anywho, nice work!

Progression or de-evolution ?
Dono.
But, I thought it was a cool pic.

Definite progression, cool and clean carve Will.

What CY-borg said
Awesome

Thought of u in Hawaii when I saw these
I could picture u dragging these giant muthaS back to your room
:)

Cheers

It's funny,
since I learned about palm fronds
I notice them all over.
I want to save every one of them.
I must see 100 of them day.

Those are coco nut fronds.
My fave are Royal palms.

So yesterday was a big day.
We cut that dude down.

WC

If I'm gonna teach a class on this,
I better know how to do it.
I've been practicing.
I have this carve down to about 45 minutes.

Nice Wood Errrrrrr Log errrrrrrr Huge Mo Fo
I assume that will take longer than 45 min
:)

U fast with those lil dudes
Lookin good

I got a whole bag of these googly eyes.
Not very traditional but,
every one that sees them are amused.

Killer

A new frond.

Hukilau is less than 2 months out.
This stuff takes time & time is short.
I have the carve kits 1/2 put together.
I have the knives & still need
the Band-Aids & Neosporin.
I'm introducing every one to a new
x-acto blade this year. A #10.

That green guy on the left with the shell eyes is fantastic, mate! I love that colour.

Like all those little guys, googly or not hehe, wish I could take the carving class.

New frond is killer

U start that monster log yet?

I won't have time for that tll after Hukiau &
the log is too fresh.
But I did do another frond.

Nice Will!

WC

With Hukilau in mind I made up a bunch more pendants.

I bought a vase made of cowry shells for a few bucks
at a thrift shop.
Must be 300 of them tied together with fish line
strung thru 2 holes drilled in each one.
Probably not made in America.

I've used them for eyes before.
Guess I'll use them more often now.

Peek a boo

Eye see u

Linda & I have been working on something new this year
for Hukilau.
I carved her a pendant about a year ago.
She wore it a time or 2 & asked if
I could put it on a purse.
Every body loves it.
A Tiki purse isn't a Tiki purse
If it doesn't have a Tiki on it.

Nice
Branching out

Those are really cool! Need to branch out into some small backpacks and messenger bags. :)

BB

Stylish!

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Check out this freak show.
I don't know what happened.
I had some shells I wanted to use.
Then I broke them. Then I got new ones.
It snowballed after that.

Super wow
Awesome

So,
Here's the final rendition of the
carving for the Hukilau carve class.
Sound the trumpets:
The Barney West inspired palm frond pendant.

I had a carve class with my bud
who doesn't carve & he stumbled over the eyes.
So I went with shell eyes.
I'm really hoping every one completes it.

Very Kool
Reminded me of the Thor Kon Tiki dude

Pendants with shell eyes?! Total, complete, awesomeness! Wish I was going to hukilau.

So what kind of pine tree was that? We have "loblolly" pines around here. Not great, but they're all over the place.

Mine now... awesome stuff Will. Nice talking to you. It has found a good home and happily fits in the suitcase.

THANK YOU WILL & TOM for your carving class at the Hukilau. It was great seeing you both. Natasha and I had a great time after drinking rum barrels with ya (the kind real men drink. like US!). Heres some pics for ya since your OFF GRID on the social media side of things.

Thanks for the pics John & the thoughts & support
from every one who came by & bought something or not.
I hope every one had as much fun as me.
We had 50 students in my carve class.
Every one that stayed till the end finished
their carve & like it.
I saw several people wearing it at the Mai-Kai
that night. Made me proud.

UPDATES REQUESTED!!! I know what you got - but others don't. Come on its been since JUNE for your last update!

T

Hear, hear!!

I haven't posted since Hulilau.
Not for any reason so since "Tiki never sleeps"
I'll show you now.

I have a few cool projects going on.
for example,

You know I carve palm fronds &
you know I carve coco nuts.
So, I had the big idea of cobbling together
a palm frond to a coco nut to make a ukulele.

I didn't want to post it till I knew it'd work.
It doesn't. I guess I can post it now.
There's a learning curve here.
The next one will.

Next up:
I've made a few pepper grinders &
they've gotten bigger each time.
So I had another big idea &
this could be my biggest ever.
Its a pepper grinder.

I have a really cool GIF to show how it works
but I can't seem to up load it.

You put the plate between his legs &
rotate his head right to left to grind.

Last but not least:
& this is really big.

Remember this?

Well I ruffed it in from the top to the bottom
& I'm working back up to dial it in to the top.

Wow Will, you don't do anything half-assed! The Professor Hinkley Ukelele, the Tiki that craps pepper, and the HUMONGOUS Tiki!!!

Mike,
The ukulele,
I think I fell asleep watching
dusk till dawn Gilligan Island reruns.

LOL

H

Fun projects, love them all, specially the ukulele.
