WC

I've been chopping on this

Almost every day.
It's almost ruffed out.

C

one of my favorite tikis, can't wait to see your progress.

Way kool

Yup,
Had a visit from Jeff this week.
He was a perfect guest, welcome any time.
Did he pay attention? We'll see if his Tikis improve.
I'm still plugging away at this guy.

P

Now the feature we've been waiting for.
You need to hum the Fred Mc Murry theme song
My 3 sons [if you remember it] as you read this post.
These guys ruffed out real EZ.

DANG IT! Now I can't get that tune out of my mind. To make things worse, there's a visual that goes with it...Bill Clinton on sax...:P

When it rains it pours and when it doesn't its a drought.

Drought is over. Will and I have been hunting palm logs for a few weeks now with no luck. Not even our tree trimmer connection could come through. Within 24 hours our fortunes have changed. First I get lucky and then he found these. The big chunk has to be close to 3.5 feet wide.

P

nice!

looking forward to seeing what you do with the fatty!

This thing is taking a long time, but
I've been getting rained out a lot.

Way cool

Quality!

This carve is so awesome its hard to decribe. Its not small or big. The grain of the wood is very unique - there are a million colors blended to perfection by mother nature. Can't wait to see it finished.

As you guys know I remade the 24 pole swords
that guard the Chinese oven at the Mai-Kai.

Well,
My buddy I carved the table legs for asked
what it would take to get me to make him some
since I still have the molds for them.
I refused.
He has nothing that would get me to make even one.
However,
I agreed to lone him the molds & he can make his own.
He like that idea & agreed to rise to the challenge.
He even offered up to make me a rack full.
To make a 6 month long story short.

Just look at the outstanding job he did.
I'm sure he was thinking the wood rack holding them
would be a slam dunk.
He didn't count on the sword part.
He made a rack of 4 for himself.
He made a rack of 3 for me.
Mine are displayed proudly next to the
front entrance of the 417&1/2 club
for EZ access to repel any unwanted attackers.

P

wow...those came out really good.

I remember you telling me this story when I was there, and yeah, your friend knocked it out of the park....

very nice.

We need an update!!

P

^ what he said...

Well, finally.

Just look at the color.
The beauty, of that wood.

Fantabulous Will!

P

holy crap Will...

that is absolutely off the charts...

Ol' Bulbous Penis turned out great Will! I feel like I'm on the outside of an inside joke though - everyone seems to know the significance of this statue but me. What's the story behind it?

Great carve! ..... but I couldn't bring myself to look at the "beauty of that wood" for too long!

excellent! cool shapes and the grain looks great. what happened to his balls? ;]

He never had any. He is lucky to still have his schlong!

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

H

One of your best carvings ever. Looks Great. Wow is right.

Thank you Sven :)

They've got some really cool stuff in the British museum Sven, unfortunately a lot of it's not on display so you can only see it on the website.

I took some pics of some of the stuff on display last time I was there, a few pics here- http://atomicmess.wordpress.com/2012/05/08/the-british-museum/

theres a cool Moai in the entrance to the room and a new guinea house post as well...

A

You've outdone yourself. That one's a real beaut. A REAL BEAUT!!

Very awesome carving, Will.

GROG like.

He's not circumcised, though. Chisels got too dull?

Very impressed!

Look, GROG want it all.
Thanks to all for the support. Feels good, we all need that.
I worked hard on this.
I've got 120 hrs in it. Took 2 months.
Did I mention it's the hardest wood I've carved yet.
So I'm on to a new carve.
This is the stage where I wonder how in the world I'm ever
going to make this look like anything.

P

wow...120 hours.

it shows man, it shows.

so is the new guy palm? taking a little break from carving that granite-like hardwood?

N

Excellent...like something that should be displayed in a museum. Great Carve!

Looks like another great piece on the way as well...

As probably one of maybe ten people that have seen it, I can agree that it could be a museum piece. That big piece of palm is looking good. What a dramatic difference in hardness - I'm surprised your not tearing through that soft Palm.

M

Stunning carve Will. It is a testament to taking your time.

Very nice finish indeed.

Mahalo for sharing

This carve sucked.
This fan palm trunk is the bottom of the tree
that died some time ago.
It's 30 in tall & 36 in wide.
Carv1ng it is a cross between stringy potato & wet rope.
The center is like wet straw. I can't carve deep.
It's ok, when it drys out it will be fine.
Stain & brush on polly. Lil sanding, it'l be cool.
I have 2 more 5 foot sections of this tree.
I'm going to let them dry for a few months.
Hope they carve better then.
