I guess I'm late on the bandwagon, but that previous carving is really over the top. Wonderful piece...one of my favorites!

This carve sucked.
This fan palm trunk is the bottom of the tree
that died some time ago.
It's 30 in tall & 36 in wide.
Carv1ng it is a cross between stringy potato & wet rope.
The center is like wet straw. I can't carve deep.
It's ok, when it drys out it will be fine.
Stain & brush on polly. Lil sanding, it'l be cool.
I have 2 more 5 foot sections of this tree.
I'm going to let them dry for a few months.
Hope they carve better then.

It's gonna be killer though, gonna have a lot of character.

A

I started one similar to that just recently but I'll be reluctant to post mine now. Just not working on your level yet. Not many are. Nice job.

Ah shucks Amate I'm not that good.
The really good ones just don't post much any more.

Jump on Conga any time.

Thanks T, the guy's a bruiser.

LMFAO!!

That's it - keep telling yourself its the log! Going from one degree of hardness to exact opposite would send any carver's head spin. Don't you need to start on that other Oak log?

P

lol...what's funny is how close your idea of what "sucks" is pretty close to what the rest of us would refer to as "awesome".

but yeah, you set the bar super high on that last piece for sure... looking forward to seeing what's next.

H

Any updates?

Since this guy (Tang) looks like me. I would express that your talents be applied to finish this beautiful Tiki .....

Thank you for sharing.

C

Nice start, you gonna have something crawling out of the ears?
:)

WC

The Tang is done for now.
What a mess. It just needs to dry out, a lot.
Then I can finish it.

But I have the other navel oak. It's about 40 in tall.
Hard stuff. I'm getting use to it.
This is the Ku 2.
2 weeks & I'm still ruffing out.
At least I've cut off enough wood to be
able to carry it.

This guy has no ears but,
I'm sure something will be popping
out of somethings ears sometime.

P

looking great already Will...

Will you really have perfected that smooth Fair finish down pretty well. I don't see any ripples, bumps or ugly spaces. Well done old man. :)

WC

I keep knocking wood off this guy

P

Lookin' good.

Thank you every one.

First off,
I had a real nice visit from CY.
All be it too short.
What a nice guy, with a nice family too.
He stopped by on his way to the Mai-Kai.
I'm not really welcome there any longer so
Tom took him there for the 50 cent tour.
You got to like a guest that knocks with his elbow
because his hands are full of gifts.
Your welcome back any time CY.

secondly
This guy was a pile of new things I wanted to try
& some of them worked out better than others.

Last thing
next up
This is a request from a girl for a pendent.
Shes a doll.
As you can see I gave him a lil snippie.
He's a Fertility God
If she's offended or feels it's inappropriate,
I'll cut it off & He'll be
the God of Misfortune.

Just getting back and I can't tell you how cool it was to meet you and go through your beautiful work. Much better in person and your attention to detail is unreal. It was too short a visit and would like to have mined your brain some more but got a lot out of it. Really enjoyed seeing the piece that you and Benzart collaborated on and I will certainly be working on a triangle shaped piece like we spoke about. Thanks again Will, me and the family had a ball! (Will has some HUGE pieces of palm waiting in the wings TCers)

P

off the charts as usual Will...

That came out great.

The new guys is looking pretty cool too...

P

oh yeah, and looks like I may be heading south to visit my grandfather again here in the next few weeks...

was hoping to visit if you have a little time to hang out...

Somebody got the latest issue of Tiki Magazine.

Lookin' forward to seein' how this "li'l guy" turns out.

Yes, I stole your God of Misfortune.
Here goes my knee caps again.

Awesome stuff as usual !!!

If you cut it off, you may be able to start selling repair kits similar to one GROG had.

This didn't take long.
The lil guys go quick.
His name is Mango.
The Fertility God, for now.
He's mango wood. The thinner branches have
outrageous colors. Rub polly brings it out.

Beautiful wood for a beautiful Gog!

The closeup makes the wood look like Palm. Nicely done!
