Curious, how much does that thing weigh?

WC

Looks like I moved it with that hand truck. Not. It's 3000lbs or more.

Awesome, I was wondering what the dolly was for, I thought it was just to carry your chisels

I carved a frond for a friend. M Frond

So I am back on this project.

At this point I've ruffed both out & I'm ready to lay in the detail. JM-2 JM-1

That's impressive. I love the finish.

Thanks for noticing the finish.

I ran out of my favorite color finish & have been using other colors but I keep thinking i don't like them as much as I like Sedona Red.

So I made a point to get a can & yes I like it better too.

Lookin good boss

Amazing work. I'm looking for staining ideas and you have some amazing finishes on your work.

My biggest secrete is the magic blacking treatment. I would tell you guys but I usually have to kill you after I tell you since it'd a secrete.

In some circles they call it antiquing. but with black.

Use water based black fo finnish stuff. Put it on liberally I wipe it off with a wet rag.

It lay's in the cracks & crevices. you can't see it but it makes every thing pop.

I guess it's out there now.

Cool tip, thanks. I've also seen it done with burnt sienna and mineral spirits.

I'm worried that palm doesn't that smooth, and I won't be able to wipe it off properly. Maybe after a coat of urethane I can do a pass like that then another coat of urethane to seal it.

Great, now he’s gonna take us all out

I spray clear on first & use a really water wet rag.

Ring it more or less in a bucket often.

The Behr foax glaze comes off EZ.

Urethane then stain? That’s breaking my brain, the stain goes through the finish? I usually use Spar Urethane.

No, the stain goes first then the clear then the blacking treatment.

That way the black foax mix comes off EZ.

Then more clear.

Update?

I know you must be making something

So, this just happened at the Mai-Kai during The Hukilau. Congrats to Will!

A few days before, I snapped a pic of Will with some other great artists who worked on the Mai-Kai during happy hour out on the Molokai Bar deck ...

From left: Conrad Teheiura Itchener (also a Mai-Kai musician), Tom Fowner, Tiki Ray Kieffer, Will Anders, and Todd Ashbaugh (aka Captain Cowfish).

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the in put. That is more than I have contributed, lately.

So, I'm still working on this never ending project. I'm so burnt out on it, it could signal the end of my carving career.

I'm hollowing out the center as they are going around a support column. It's more work than carving the outside.

Nice. Inside n out!

Looks great!! I need to make it down there one weekend. Captain Cowfish is a cool dude. I have some of his work and hung out a few times at tiki events.

I just posted a deep dive with photos and lots of detail on the work of Will and "Tiki Ray" Kieffer for the Mai-Kai ...

The two tikis, unveiled last month during The Hukilau, now greet guests in the historic restaurant's reimagined entry area. Go to AtomicGrog.com or https://wp.me/p1xHjT-9gb

I think I'm making progress & progress is our most important product.

So, I'm at the final detail.

The top & bottom are locked/strapped, top & bottom.

The bolts at the bottom are leg levelers.

U stud

Will, these are looking great. Are they going to the Mai-Kai as well? Speaking of, that epic huge log that you carved reminds me of something LeRoy would have done back in the heyday of OA. Not sure how you would even move it around much less turn it over during carving, Much respect!

Aaron, as far as rolling them when I carve them, You can see on the left in the picture I use a come-along to roll them back & fourth. It's hard to pull them to a point & when it gets EZ put the brakes on or get out of the way.
