Thank you every body.
Hilda, you know your comps are special.
I finished this last week.
It was really wet. The wettest I've carved yet.
I carved it extra special.
Then, it all shriveled up &
looked better than I carved it.

I feel like I own these guys now.
I've got them coming & going.

Well, the fact is,
I haven't done much carving lately.

However I have logs in the works.
For example

Mike,
Good spot. Those dates are 4 lbs.each.
I preserve them in ball jars.
Any body want to try some?

So I'm chipping away on this goofy guy.
There's a lot of wood here.
I've made a big pile of chips.

Looks like a nice tiki you have going there Will. I am a bit disappointed however. I was kind of hoping you would make me a canoe out of that log! :D

He should be done by now?? I go to the Keys for a few days and everyone starts goofing off. Don't make me come over there!

I just put the last coat of finish on this
7 ft pine log.
It was a pleasure to carve,
as long as you have sharp tools, go the right direction
& don't want to grind or sand.
He really liked bold cuts.

A
AlohaStation posted on 06/24/2015

CY - don't tell him that! He strives to carve beyond the shape of the wood. I'm glad to see some of my influence is rubbing off. This one went quick - it only took a month!

WC
Will carve posted on 06/24/2015

Thank you,
I like some parts better than other, but,
I say that all the time.

Check out this hairball.
Not all palm is the same.
I cut the bottom off to stand it up
& let it drain.
The inside is about what you'd find
in a Key lime pie.
Not much hope we will ever see a silly face in that thing.

Only a month???…that would be a yearlong carve for me.
I’m not sure which is worse for me---my aversion to sand paper or sharpening chisels. I’m coming to the conclusion that I might be in the wrong business.
Great carve Will !

That "Pine log you just carved is a Norfolk Island Pine and is a really excellent carving wood as seen by the excellent work you did with it. I think the palm above is a mushy Bottle palm? not easily carved, maybe if you freeze it you can get an ice carving from it? :)

A
AlohaStation posted on 06/29/2015

I was going to take that rootball off his hands till I saw the inside!! Total mush. I suggested cutting the rootball off the stump??

T
TheBigT posted on 06/29/2015

came out great will! I seem to see some spalting here and there. was that an old log?

WC
Will carve posted on 07/06/2015

Big T,
You've been encouraging me since 2009.
Thought I'd take this moment to say thanks.
That darker wood is the black glaze stuff.
I'm not a fan of doing that to hard wood.
I did the crown & didn't like it but I was
stuck & had to finish it to the bottom.

Some one gave me a 7 in pine log about 30 in long.
I split it in to 3 long ways.
This was just practice.
Kinda like doodling.

Next up some thing different.
My first Namahage.

Not tiki? Here’s what I do. Make up some fantasy Island that exists only in your imagination. Sometimes I dream up a whole culture, complete with legend/ history, of the folk that inhabit your isle. It gives me something to occupy my mind while sanding…
BTW, love the hair! :)
