Well....it's a beautiful Labor Day morning in Wisconsin. Best
wishes to all from the newest member of the Conga family.

As you can see, he's conjured up quite a little spell for himself :)

C

Many thanks Laojia...the family is getting pretty big. Think I gotta
send some of them out into the real world, to get a job or something!

Heath...I'm always tempted to fancy things up..but I think the simple
lines were alright this time.

Benz..funny guy. Thanks for "telling" me how to fix the crack so I could
"show" you how it's done. Quite the interesting post...and two of them
for that matter...you better get yourself to bed at night :)

T

Hey Conga, nice job! Once again great work with the paint. I like the repair work. Thanks for posting the progress pics. So do you like the wooden shims better than wood filler then? Hey did you notice ur guy is wearing lipstick?! Just sayin... :P

C

Hey Big T...thanks for visiting. I thought the wood fill project was really
easy...not much more difficult than "filler"...until I got to the last piece that
I had to put in. Then I got mad and yelled a little, just couldn't get the
final piece to fit.
As for the lipstick...I used a reference pic of a tribal shaman and he was
wearing a little gloss...so there you have it. I also think the bugger might
be a Sarah Palin fan...you know the "pit bull with lipstick."

Very spooky!

But a great carve!

This guy really comes to life Conga, nice chops!

S

Nice carve and finish with this magic man. Me like.

Thanks Lake and Seeks, appreciate the comps on the spooky magic feller.
Finished him up with a light coat of poly and found a nice spot to stick
him. He's still a little intimidated to be with the big boys in the
Conga Lounge, so he get's a little corner in the big house.

Still time to start another big one for outdoor carving...just need
some inspiration right now. Can't seem to get my mind off of football....
GO COLTS.

He looks happy and content in his OWN corner.... spoiled brat! Great stuff.

C

Awww, very cool!

B

Strange shadows from that guy Conga, think I'd cover him up at night or something. He definitely owns that corner.

Great carve Conga!!! Keep it up, Aloha, Mooney

Many thanks TikiMango, Clarita, Benz and Mooney. Always appreciate
the support from all of you, keeps one motivated for the next project :)
Hey Mooneytiki, are you trying to set some sort of posting record.
Thanks for visiting at the Conga thread.

Well I haven't posted to many talented artists in a while and many of them were far to far back and needed a Bump, and I had some time and abit 2,to,too much cafeene!Haha ha. It's all good my friend but not as cool as your very cool carvings your postin!!Very nice! Keep it up,Aloha your friend, Mooney

Mooney rules.

Conga too.

S

Nice shot of the mystic man!

Thanks Seeks and Surfin, while you guys are hunting waves I'm hunting
for a warmer spot to carve. Actually BIG WIND is the problem right
now, so I've moved my carving center into one end of the Conga Lounge.

And this feller on the right just showed up to join the get-together

His "working" title is Tangata Manu...but he has a little of that
"Land Before Time" look so I might eventually name him after my little
dog, Petrie

How about a shot of Petrie too

Sort of a Buzzy post...carving indoors...the obligatory dog shot...
only missing the sunset.
Have fun!

B

conga, cool bird and neat mutt. does this make him your Birddogq ! :o :D :0

love the pup!

L

Missing the sunset! Big mistake! :o
Fortunately, the rest is very beautiful...

J.

C

Hello Ben, Amy, Laojia.
Tangata Manu is taking shape....The bird-dog approves of your
messages...and I AM gonna get a sunset picture for you, Laojia :)
I have been pondering the Rapa Nui birdman figures for a loooooong
time, still need to alter some of the bumps and angles, but I'm happy
so far.

Should be knifing in some of the details in the coming week, stay tuned.

B

Just be careful with that knife I'm sure he wants to stay a he bird! He's a Lot bigger than I thought he was too.

T

Very cool birdman you got coming along. So is he gonna be decorated with real feathers?

Thanks Ben and BigT...the birdman stayed a "guy"...but he doesn't
get real feathers.

No real feathers?! Dang. Well, he looks GREAT. A true conga masterpiece - this dude is cool. Can we see the back? I like the cool, aged look you gave him along the edges.

Many many thanks "The Big T." Sorry I couldn't do anything with
feathers for you :)
I WAS gonna show a backside view but spaced it...here are a couple
shots...obviously based on the Easter Island birdman figures...
hope you still like it!

I don't want to make anyone jealous...but can you see that we have
snow already!

Sweet Conga! God I love those easter island creations. Great job. Now, get started on a Kava Kava!!! Haaa. (I've been trying to get to one for tooooo long.)

Thanks Surfintiki, glad you like the ole bird. Tried a Kava Kava
about five years ago, but made a lot of conceptual mistakes. I think
periodically about a re-do to correct some things. TikiRay recently
did a fabulous Kava so I'm putting another Kava on the back burner for
now, but I really love that style.
I also love the recent work on your own thread...
Nothing in the works on my bench right now...seeking inspiration :)

T

Ha, look at that! Wow. Hey, that's really cool! Sheesh, this is a masterpiece! Now that's some excellent work.

As for snow... :P :P :P Man, you poor guys who live in the tundra! In Houston today, the low is 76, the high is 90. Humidity is 94%. And a 30% chance of rain. ok, so it's slightly on the humid side....

Looking great Conga! I enjoy all the detailing on the back side.

B

Yes, I still like him.

SNOW?

remember last time you had snow and you said another day of this and I'll be down there??
WELL?

C

Very inspired carving!
and greetings to Petrie

he looks so ferocious, like a little Godzilla :)

[ Edited by: Clarita 2009-10-19 10:55 ]

Hey, many many thanks Benz, Big T, Mango and Clarita. You're
making me feel like I did okay on this one :)
I thought about this style for a long time before I tackled it. Always
appreciate your kinds remarks, especially since it's not really mainstream
"tiki."
Clarita...little Petri packs a tough bite for a little pooch...just look at
those evil fangs! I mess with her once in a while...but I always "Beware
The Dog."

Conga my friend!

The Birdman is beautiful!

You are the Northwoods master of the PNG!

Hope you are warming a bit with the southerly winds... no snow down here in Beer City except for some flurries last weekend.
I hope it stays away, I have a 9 foot commission to do and it won't fit through the back door.

Keep up the great work, someday our paths will cross!

B

Petrie is a Cool Mutt, he was just having a heart to heart conversation with the Bird mad, letting him know who is Top Dawg around here!
Cool stuff Conga.

S

Nice work on the bird-man.
Love your twists my friend.

C

Lake, Benz, Seeks, always appreciate the comps, and the inspiration you
all send up to the northwoods.
Well, it's been a while, but I'm working on a couple of things.

Imagine a far off place, on a tall mountain peak, sorta like this

The "hut" is, of course, influenced by all of the whimsical cottage
"bark" carvings that we all see now and then, with a bit of an exotic
twist. The "figure in progress" is inspired by my nightmares.
The hut is gonna take a while cuz I wanna cram as many tikis into it as
possible. This weekend I hope to get outdoors, fire up some power
tools and get the crouching fella ready for detail work.

Thanks for stopping in....a lotta nice work being shown right now...
by you guys and gals.

B

Conga, Welcome back, Love your "Hut".
There is Already a ton of detail in the thing and you want to add MORE? Whadda 'Ya NUTZ? Of Course you are, we All know that. You Gotta be to fit in around here and to carve those wacky things you do. :) :o
Speed it up a bit there old man!

I'm really liking both those new pieces Conga.
Cant wait to see what other details you put on the HUT.

C

Wow, thanks for the nice comments guys. This is what I need to keep pushing
ahead on these projects. I have a lot of nice touches in mind for the
"Hut".....perhaps some lighting....other thoughts are some bones/skulls in
the caves...figures outside the door....it's PLAYTIME in CONGALAND.
Thanks again.
