Thanks Amate, you really know how to pump a guy up for the new year.
I'm glad that the Conga-carves have found a spot in your heart:-)

Yea Benz, getting a pretty big collection of tikis and near-tikis around
here. Several that have found homes outside the conga lounge,
but this is pretty much "bear and eagle" territory.

Not sure what I'm gonna do next, trying to finish up the mountain-top
tiki hut carving that I posted several weeks ago.

Thanks all for looking.

Yeah! He looks positively Primitive!!! Nice choppin'! I like his demeanor, like he's dreaming of a nice cannibalistic meal!

C

Hey thanks Surfin'...."positively primitive" is exactly what I was shooting
for! Usually I try to sand until the carving is smooth as a baby butt.
I thought this one looked okay with a little less effort :)
thanks for visiting!

B

Another Sweet one Conga, You're banging these tikis out right and left. I love this little guy too especially the look on his face,, he lookes like he's Dancin' to the conga Beat!

T

Wow Conga, this guy has a great stance. Love it!

T

Very cool little dude you got there. He looks authentically oldish. This guy would also be super cool in a 4 foot size.

C

Many thanks Benz....Mango....Big T.

Funny thing you mentioned a bigger one Big T. It's too cold around here
so this little guy is heading to a TC member in sunny California. A bigger version
is the next project on Conga's horizon. Seems the big bulky guys handle
Wisconsin weather a little better :)

Last ones soooo coool!!!
This comment has nothing to do with the weather...

S

Nice work he looks old with that stain. I like.

Im looking fwd to spring.

K

I feel like a proud papa waitin for the new baby to come home! Can't wait to get this guy and add him to the family. Thanks Conga!

J

Short on stature, Tall on style!

Many thanks Laojia, Seeksurf,Kahaka and Johnny.

Kahaka, the little feller is really excited about moving west, warmer
weather, girls in bikinis all year (that's right isn't it?) and more
than anything, he can't wait to bask in the light of your fabulous lamps!

Working on two new projects...hopefully I'll have something worth showing in a
week or so.

B

Well I hope so, you haven't been around in a few days!! (who am I to talk)
Your westward tiki will be HappyHappyHappy

Hey...yes Ben...Conga has been bizzy doing a bit of chizzlin".
Still working on the "hut" that I showed off a couple of months ago

And I've started another chunk...not totally positive where this
will go...

And I'm also starting to think about this big piece of basswood

Hoping to nearly finish the hut this weekend with a couple of
different stains...a bit of paint...and some finishing touches.
It is a gift for a chiropractor friend...it will be his imaginary
mountain-top clinic. I'll have some time this weekend with football
winding down.

By the way..with all due respects to Chargers fans...GO COLTS!!!!

B

Yeay Conga, Glad to see you have been busy,, that hut looks just about ready to move into, great job and I get dibbs on the room with the window facing east but ONLY if it has a good heater!

Oooooh yeah, I see a Tang in there!

L

Cool stuff for "the hut"... And this bass wood log is promising!

J.

C

Thanks Benz...Surfin' and Jerome. Finally finished the "tiki hut"...
a pretty labor intensive project....

I tossed a bunch of other pics over in the "other craft" section...The
whole thing confused me...it's got tikis..but its not really a tiki carving..
so I pushed it over to the other end of the spectrum.
Dog lovers will find Petri over there too :)

Love "The Hut" Conga!

Great idea and great execution!

C

Very nice hut, and this one is so great love him!

Thanks Lake, my Wisconsin Bruddah!
And thanks so much Clarita, I've missed you :) I really love that little
guy, and he's escaped the northern winters to a new home in California.

Might have something new this weekend...have been conducting research into how
much wood can be removed from a log chunk and still have something worthwhile left.

K

Thanks again, Conga for letting us adopt that little dude. He's got so much personality I'm just waitin' for him to say somethin'. My favorite tiki in the house right now!

You are most welcome Kahaka, and thank you. I'm thrilled that you
are pleased, and listen real close, he whispers.

Well, the second month of the year, a second carving starts to take
shape. This was gonna be a "tang" as was so astutely pointed out earlier.
But some wonderful Tangs have been posted lately, so I decided to dig and
dig and dig. This is the early result of that digging and the frustration
of my football team losing the big bowl.

and cleaned up a little bit today, pretty nice day "up north"

To me he sorta looks like a "baby" tiki, already a lot of attitude but
without the chompers.

BT

It's a monkeytiki, I like 'em.

I love the expression. Another Conga Classic!

Thanks Bad and Amate! I think he looks like a monkey too...from the side.
Some progress this week and I plan on fixing the crack over the weekend.
Gonna fill it with wood strips (learned from Mr. Benzart) and I'll show a
step by step for those who are interested.

Really great piece. Excellent depth! Perfect head and body.

B

Excellent rendition of the Angry tiki coach screaming at the losing team which by the way HE Failed to coach well enuf to win... :o
Love this one Conga!

I would be very interested to see Mr. B's crack repair technique.

Many thanks Tikilizard, always appreciate your kind remarks.
Thanks Ben, now I know what he looks like. He looks like me yelling
at the TV when my team failed to execute. Or like you said, the
coach giving his team a tongue lashing.
And Amate, with all due respects to Benzart, here is my little
crack repair tutorial.
Number one...find a few pieces of scrap that will fit into the
crack...

Then you whittle away until you have wedges that will fit into the
crack and stick out

Next step is to get all the pieces cut, glue them into the
crack and gently pound in as deep as possible

and finally, I used my hook knife to carve away the excess wood
to match the carving

And there you have it, the whole process took about 40 minutes.
It's actually less putsy than using wood filler and you will get a
much more uniform stain. Thanks for visiting, come again.

T

Nice conga! I first I kinda thought he looked like a bird. But the overall shape and feel is very monkey like. Don't know what you had in mind, but I do like it!

So the scraps you are using for crack repair - are they the scraps from the same carve? Or are you stockpiling a bunch of floor sweepings somewhere?

I thought you were gonna glue some dentures in!

Thanks BigT...yea I am saving some wood chips if anybody needs some. I have
several large garbage bags full of various sizes. I sell them cheap...
authentic home carved chips for just $10 a bag...plus shipping of course.

And Surfintiki...got a big belly laugh out of that one...big laugh...big belly
too. I started to carve a lower denture this morning...but I hurt myself and
had to quit. Perhaps I will attempt some individual dental implants.

You do some awesome carvings-----until now.

Thanks for your feedback Grog. I wasn't planning on selling this one to you
anyway. You only like the toothy grin tikis, right?

Funny! Actually, I recently found a bag of chips I had saved from one of my summer tikis. It had a lot of buggy parts and I put some chips aside in case I needed to repair anything. I did actually use one small chip for a repair. Came out great.

You could always start your own mulch business.... :P

Si!

S

Good to see ya still pumping your works out.

Soon will will be carving outside.

C

I like this last one, it looks like a little monkeytiki to me, very fun! and the crack repair tutorial it's great, I was waiting for you to post the final result with the finish and all to post, but.. still waiting.. :)

Hi tiki pals, Conga has been lazy with bruised ribs from a ski mishap,
but it looks like we might be able to push out a little progress on two
guys today. Thanks for the little "push" Clarita, "monkey-tiki"
will be finished and updated soon :)

[ Edited by: congatiki 2010-03-14 07:34 ]

Well, what a spring in Wisconsin! Unseasonably pleasant temperatures,
snow all gone, Conga's ribs almost all healed. Oh yea, I caught this
guy running around outside this morning

Not really sure what to think, he might be finished, or then again
he might get a little paint slogged onto him. I'll have to enjoy a few
cocktails and think about it today.
Peace to all!

L

Hey Conga!
Enjoy cocktails and sun of the northwood, you deserve it!

J.

BT

Looking good. Maybe you should rub a little dark stain into the crevices.

The rope is a cool touch.

B

Looks like he was Screaming bloody murder when you caught him too..Fun piece Conga. Ribs almost better, Cool?

Conga Tiki Monkey of Doom!

Nice work Conga!

You've got sun today?

Downstate we have 2 inches of fresh snow on the ground, and its freezing out.

Grog win contest for best name for wierd monkey/tiki. Sorry Grog,
no prize :(
Thanks Jerome, Badd Tiki, Benz and Lake.
Weather man wrong today...turned out to be really nice while Lake got
the crap in Milwaukee.
Ribs are really good, Ben, I even sneezed several times today without
serious reoccurance of the injury. Happy.

S

Nice work on the noisy looking fella.
