Hang 10, Caliente is right around the corner, thanks Will, I struggle a bit with adding color, hil we can do some "bundling" as that American Picker guy says.
Finished these by adding dark brown into the deeper recesses, just like will carve learned me.

A combo of dark and clear stain.

Here are the smaller, backlit poplar pieces.

This is cedar that was milled about 40 years ago.

And lastly an alder branch with a cannibal flavor.

Fork.

Knife.

Spoon.

Thanks H10, it's been warming up a bit around Oregon, enough to get a few painted.
Alder is a hoot to carve.

A mixture of grey and brown stain, brushed on and quickly wiped off. A steel wooling and "Long Pig" is done.

Milled cedar with two coats of urethane, sandings in between for smoothness. One more coat.

I have a much different take on Tiki Central, and think it is on the rebound and will once again take it's rightful place in the sharing and growing of tiki culture throughout the world, but in case I am wrong here are a few progress shots while you are still here.
A sweet gum log.

These two are ready for the trip to Palm Springs and Tiki Caliente.

A branch of cedar that was commissioned for a birthday gift.

Been on TC AWOL for a bit, trying to get back in and visit- especially since the TC renaissance is coming????

Not sure if I'm making it to Caliente, would be fun to hang out in May rather have to wait til August.

Thanks H10 and Ano, I will be seeing you both soon at Caliente and Oasis. I have been having fun with these cedar Columbia River floats, which I purchased while on vacation at the Oregon coast. They will accompany me to the Palm Springs event, just a week and a half away.

That there rum drink mixed with water was the best I had all weekend, thanks H10. Slowly making progress on some new work.
This one is being built from an old milled piece of cedar.

It's being made for a piece of wood and fabric from another project.

More floats, these for the Tiki Central swap, Steven Crane being the subject.

New floats for Tiki Kon here in Portland at the end of this month.

I do not know what I am doing with this stick, but I do know I am doing something with it.

Thanks for the positive comments, I was not sure how that one would be received. I used this week off to spend some time on tiki.
It's back to this purple heart piece named "Webster". So hard and heavy and a real detriment to the sharpness of your tools. Avoid at all costs, but damn it's purple!

A start on a cool shaped log of cedar.

Getting close to finish on these planks of glued and screwed mahogany.

Almost six foot tall.

H
hang10tiki posted on 07/10/2017

Killer

Dig da purple color

C
cy posted on 07/23/2017

Thanks Jon, once it is done just a few clear coats to preserve the beautiful color. With Tiki Oasis right around the corner I wanted to complete a few more floats as they have helped with my traveling expense.

This four foot high cedar log was started a few months ago right where it fell in my front yard. I just scratched a center line down the middle, started on the top, moved to the bottom, then followed the wrong scratch in the middle. It looked so bad that I cut the whole mistake out, here it is with the first coat of paint. They can't all be zingers.

A slight update because carving takes so long.
"Link" is about tiki past and present.

I started this piece of cedar before Oasis.

The branch that it is from came crashing down on my deck a few years ago.

I hope to sell him and recoup some of my losses.

A light will be added inside, behind the fish.
