So Miss Communication came along & informed me we need 2 Hawaiian Paddle Door Pulls.

Aint skeerd, did one I can do another. Here's the proof.

Bettys 2 Hawiian Paiile Door Pulls

I think the door count is now up to 200

Those are classy door pulls. Well done.

Willy- what ya gotz goin on?

Will looks like I'm a little late on the door pulls but those are COOL!!! Glad your hands are doing well enough to do some carving <3

Thanks guys & girls I was feeling sad & lonely nobody saw my stuff. Just kidding. But thanks for thinking of me.

The Hawaiian Paddle Door Pulls were a request & really EZ to make 2- one hour & 1/2 sessions each.

I'm still painting my house.

Next up will be filling the 2 Mai-Kai molds I have now. Kern & I picked up the cement, rock & sand for them & I guess it's a sign the MK is making progress.

Right now the biggest issue with my hands is inflammation. If I put my hand on your arm you'd say "wow they are really hot." I'm not sure if that's a big problem, guess we'll see.

Very nice. Was your home built in the 1940's? The house I grew up in was and it had rust red concrete as the porch. You brough back some wonderful memories.

Love the house!

U try any OTC Voltaren cream?

Funny you should ask. Someone sent me just that for my birth day. That works for temporary relief but not so much fixes it. & if you read the directions, It says "if you use this, much, you'll be sorry"

Beautiful house Will!

šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

I use it, a LOT

Wow, I like those door pulls! Not sure how I missed them earlier, but they're giving me ideas... =)

These could the first of the last. Or, the last of the first. Not sure.

I count about about 60 Mai-Kai molds I've filled and these 2 are (I think)

the last 2 I have not filled. Sven said "build an army", I have.

In the 15 or so years I've filled, painted & delivered ruffly 200 cement

Tikis to the Mai-Kai.

I take it as a good sign towards the future of the Mai-Kai if they are now at

the point of repopulating the garden with new Tikis.

DSC02229

I love good signs, especially about the Mai Kai. How big are the molds/Tikis?

The lil guy is 32 in & the big guy is 40 in tall.

Those long thin legs make him fragile.

So we are looking for the right areas to place him.

I wrote Sven & Tiki Tom Tom & they are both thrilled

the Mai-Kai is making progress.

I did a complete walk around last week and

Typhoon Tommy & his gang are making great progress.

And again, progress is our most important product.

Awesome

U are the Mai-Kai ambassador

Best part of the Mai Kai for us was wondering the back garden looking for tikis hidden by foliage. We would love to see it once it's done. This year we will travel to Max's South Sea Hideaway in Grand Rapids.

WC

Well Wendy next time you go to the Mai-Kai here's what you can hunt for..

I've been working on repopulating the garden & other parts of the Mai-Mai.

Vandals broke in a few months ago & broke up & destroyed as many cement guy as they could. So Typhoon Tommy & his crew have asked me to make more cement guys. I started with the two molds I had from before the roof fell in. Then I went to the warehouse returned those two molds & picked up more. Kind'a like library books. As before I make 3 of each, paint them different colors & place them around so it looks like they are all different Tikis.

So I poured these two molds yesterday. they sit over night & I unmold them in the morning. DSC02236

Here's what I do with the left over cement. DSC02237 DSC02238 DSC02239

Here's where they go for paint when they dry for a day or so. DSC02240

Don't worry I have more molds to fill. DSC02241

Some of them don't come out so well & I need to show them hard love. DSC02235

Nice to see you still at it Will! Can't wait to get out there when the Mai Kai finally opens!

Awesome heavy tikis sir

We just watched the most recent edition of Nova on PBS. It was all about Easter Island. We learned new things. But they kept showing the Moai lined up and your post remines me of that.

I never had a mold that large. You must have muscles! Well done, those are great tikis.

So, this is my new carve. The first in a while.

6 ft palm log. It's a good start! DSC02243 DSC02245

Yea baby, heā€™s back. Hands must be better. Looking good sir!!!

The cement guys look great. Need to find some of those.

I got somebody.

DSC02246

I've set my 6ft palm to the side to do a frond for a friend.

It's a monster frond. Frond 4-1-24

"Vandals broke in a few months ago & broke up & destroyed as many cement guy as they could." I hope there is a special place in Tiki Hell for those people!

The frond is starting out good Will!

OGR

Nice work Will. It's nice to a "frond" with benefits.

WC

This is the stage of the carve we call the ruff out.

I needed an opinion. Asked my dog. She said, Ruff.

I said , like, what should I remove ? She said, Bark. DSC02252

So, I'm dialing in the body.

He will be holding 2 shells, one in each hand. DSC02255 DSC02256 DSC02257

Moving up to the headdress.

DSC02260 DSC02263 DSC02262

Bitchin' Will!!!!!

Lookin good Bruddah

Finish it soon and send to Vegas, my new backyard could use something just like that, but instead of holding shells, it would need to be holding golf balls

I wish I had more room on my walls. I need a Frond Tiki from you. I need to go through and redo my tiki bar and move stuff around and redo the stuff on the walls. But, I have so much other stuff I need to get done before I can get to that. Besides, my Tiki Room is the least used room in the house.

Erni, let me know when you got room.

It's just that EZ.

Grog in da house

So, we gave him feet so,

he can stand on a rum barrel

Then we gave him pig tails.

Yes sir, a hit Iā€™m sure

I'm honored to be joining Will next Saturday at The Hukilau to host his special presentation, "Mai-Kai from the Outside In".

Here's the official description from TheHukilau.com: Don't rush inside - learn about the history of the gardens and tikis outside from artist and carver Will Anders. Forty years of personal Mai-Kai stories up to and including the current restoration of the historic tikis. Will's tales are woven with threads of passion and reverence, offering a glimpse into the soul of this sacred sanctuary. So, linger a while, and let the whispers of history caress your senses, for in these moments of reflection lies the true essence of our enchanted realm.

We hope to see you there!

I took the opportunity to dive a little deeper on TheAtomicGrog.com with a preview story that includes more on Will's humble history: https://www.slammie.com/atomicgrog/blog/2024/06/02/the-hukilau-2024-preview-flashback-inside-and-outside-the-mai-kai-with-tiki-carver-will-anders/

Last but not least, I finally put together an extensive collection of photos to pair with the audio walking tour we did back in 2018 with Kern Mattei. It's a cool time capsule and look back at The Mai-Kai, pre-pandemic. Check it out here: https://www.slammie.com/atomicgrog/blog/2024/06/02/the-hukilau-2024-preview-flashback-inside-and-outside-the-mai-kai-with-tiki-carver-will-anders/#tour

Cheers to Will. Keep carving!
