Right on conga he looks like a thinker.

YEAHHH! skip the yardwork! "Modern" artwork always a better alternative.

Another spy, aye? Will this one be finished in white? Sweetz!

Thanks for the kind words Ben, Seeks, Surf and GMan. He's gonna be an
all-seeing, deep thinking modern spy!
He's fun and (I think) moving along nicely, and then I am ready to dive into a
pile of eight and nine foot basswood logs. Oh boy! Just like Lakesurfer said
somewhere, time to work on BIG STUFF.
A little update on "Spy III."

See You all soon, and have a great time at the South Florida Chop!

S

Nice, the accessory details on the beak-head area
and the notches on the eye are cool.

B

A Formidable Foe for Sure! Lookin Great!

Great details on this one Conga!!!

I really like this guy, your birdman carvings reminded me of something I saw here many years ago and it took me a while to sort through a lot of old threads to find.

Swanky posted this find in 2003

C

Hey thanks everybody, and thanks Johnny for posting that pic.
I just got nuts for that PNG stuff and that one is really cool,
a heck of a lot cooler than what I'm doing. Mine is not going to
have any additional digging or detail in the body cuz I want it to
have sort of a flowing modern feel to it, but I am having a lot of
fun working on the head and beak.
Thanks again guys.

I know all you So-Florida peeps had a great weekend. Since it's a long
way from Northern Wisconsin I had to finish-up the latest birdman. The
concept here was a PNG style figure blended with tiki modern sensibilities.
Does that make any sense?

Birdman was fun, now moving on to BIG STUFF.

Conga, Your turning out some awesome PNG stuff. Really like the finish on those. Keep em coming.

Rad!
Your PNG and birdmen work RULE!

I like I like. Great individual style you have Conga.

MrsHoptiki

Aloha Conga!!!

Look at you go my friend.Looking good . I hope it is warming up for you all.keep up the nice carving you have going on,Aloha Mooney

B

Excellent stuff Conga and of COURSE, Everything from you makes sense,,,NONSENSE
I Really do like this birdman.

C

Many many thanks kind friends, the birdman appreciates the comps.
Thanks for peeking into Conga's thread Tikimecula, Kinny, and Mr. & Mrs.
BPHoptiki. Mooney, the weather is getting better, just needs to warm up
a little.
And Benzo, the master-host and master-carver, was that a big ole' chunk of
basswood you were attacking at your weekend "Chop?" Looks like there was
some "nonsense" going on down there too :)

Conga! Those 3 pieces side by side, really show your style. Love them all. The head hunter, I really like, especially that smooth tone you got out of the stain...it looks classic.

The bird is the word!!! Great job Conga!

Another great piece, Conga! We need to get a mini-chop up here for us snow tiki peeps.

Conga you definitely achieved the delicate balance between primitive and modern with this piece. The deft details and paint touches really make it pop.

Well done!!

S

Well done conga. You have given us some outstanding
carves this winter. Thanks for sharing dude.

I love your vision, conga - totally unique. Birdman is excellent. in the picture above - the headhunter on the left is insane. He's a freaky tiki!

Conga, way to put the wraps on this one! Beautiful finish on it and I love the use of color.

Nice lineup of some quality work!

Hope you got some of this great weather we've been having in Southeast WI. Upper 70's today and I daresay I got a sunburn working outside.

Spring has sprung! Now let's see some big carves!

C

Wow, the birdman is going nuts and pooping all over the place, just
thrilled with all the positive comments. Many thanks Freddie (hey that
Northern Wisconsin chop sounds like a good idea--any others lurking out
there)..Surfintiki, Freak, Harro, Seeks, Polynesiac and Lake. I really
appreciate all of you great chizzlers stopping by, didn't expect so much
out of this "outta box" fella.
We're getting the nice weather up here too Lakesurfer, and I am pumped to
dig into some big basswood logs starting this weekend. I am thinking of
a couple projects, both kinda different. No kidding :)

Conga,

The BirdMan kicks butt!!!!! Very modern and very tribal.

Love it!

Hey thanks a lot Sneaky. I'm glad he caught your eye, since you seems to
have the occasional "bird brain" syndrome too! Keep up the good work on
your side of the country.

[ Edited by: congatiki 2008-05-13 05:29 ]

Hi kids, you should be carving instead of sitting by the computer:-)
Just kidding. Lotsa nice stuff being posted again.
Here's what's happening up here....A NW Coast totem...six footer...
basswood.

Don't worry, I will be attempting to tiki-fi this one. I have had
some interest in putting stuff into a really nice store up here called
"Luxury Living." They get tons of traffic with peeps heading up north
to cottages and summer homes...maybe ole' conga will actually sell something.
Have fun.

B

You mean there's Further North than YOU?

Lookin Good Mr Conga and I'm sure he will be tiki'd up when you finish him!

Another great start Conga!

You have got to be freezing your ass off up north lately. I am down here.

Its too damn cold this Spring! I've no desire to do any work outside, it makes my hands hurt!

S

Right On conga, Now where talking right up my neighborhood.

Way to go Conga! Anybody walking into a shop called Luxury Living has got to have a fat wallet! Best wishes my friend.

PS I dig NW Pacific rim stuff too. Not chainsaw grizzly's but coastal native arts.

Been meaning to post to your thread of a good while. You a really have a unique and intriguing vision....it's been a pleasure browsing your thread and seeing the progress. Good luck with the store.

Happy Holiday from "Up North" in Wisconsin!
Thanks Paipo, always honored to impress one of the "masters."
Hi Lake, the weather has finally turned into spring up here, no turning
back, just the occcasional tornado.
Seeks, nice to see you over here again. I am gonna keep this one right up
your alley, promise.
Hey Hodadhank, been thinking about you a lot, Mindy is ready to move west.
I am really striving for "coastal native" but I am sure as hell gonna
get some tiki in here somehow.
And Robin, thanks heeps for finally telling ole' Conga that you have been
around. I thought I saw you in the corner over there. I appreciate
the kind remarks. I musta been ADD before it became popular, I have a
hard time following much of a plan.
So, here we go, holiday updates of the latest chunk of wood

I know it's kind hard to see what's going on, but the top figure is an
eagle or raven, the second figure holding the fish in his mouth is a
beaver, with his paws on each side of the fish, and his legs underneath
the fish. I hope you can see the fish.

On the bottom we have figures to the left and right, which I think will
become the connection to "tiki." I still have to decide what will be
in the middle of the figures.
The rough-out work is finished and I will be spending the next couple
of weeks with the hook knife and sandpaper. Then we are gonna get fancy
with a little stain and paint. Sorry to ramble, but it's a holiday and
some cocktails have been seen at the Conga Lounge.

Man that Basswood looks so soft and smooth!!! Great job so far Conga!

Lookin great Conga! Those big ones look like real time eaters. Take your time, make it a masterpiece!

J

Yup, I can see what is going on, the fish is there plain as day, I am curious as to the figures which will tie this to tiki. Have you noticed that every time you do a search for the south seas or south pacific, are from the pacific northwest pops up?

S

Looking Great conga. You are getting me exited
to do a stack.

B

Man, I Sure hope I don't ramble like that when I get old! (next week Probably!)
Lieke the totem pole too and it is Typically you to Tikify it like that. Go Go Go, Don't let up!

Hey thanks guys! I am gonna push hard to keep this one going in
the right direction. Happy to be moving out of the "rough out"
stage and into some fun chizzlin' with smaller tools. I will try
to keep you guys interested. How about a little beaver?

Thanks for stopping by, now all of you get to work on your own projects.
:)

You got my attention....Always time for a little beaver.....

Good looking stack Conga. You are a machine. Your arm is gonna be all crabbed out and it is only spring!

S

Yes, bring out the Beav!

H
harro posted on Thu, May 29, 2008 6:06 AM

bring the beav!!

great work conga, always something interesting going on in your carves.

C

Thanks GMan, Seeks and Harro, and everyone for being nice about this beast
that is not a tiki. I also realize that this is not called "Totem Central"
so I will have to get some tiki stuff in here somehow.
Just a little update cuz I almost dropped off the page and I was lonely.

The little guys on the bottom might become tikis, I don't think I know at
this point.

S

Looking good conga. Lots going on in this sucker, me like.

J

You keep teasing us with these tikis that might find their way on the totem pole :)

C

While Lakesurfer was getting rain three hours south of me in Milwaukee,
I was getting a little wind in my yard. Looks like the storm gods want me
to keep carving.

Needless to say, my clean-up crew has a lot more hard work to do,
but we made it through about 20 per cent of the mess in four hours.
Meanwhile, we've made some progress on the totem. Thanks for the kind
comments that have kept me pushing ahead. And Johnny...no more promises
of "something associated with Tiki"....how about a couple of Moai profiles
underneath the beaver.

Thanks for looking!
