First it amazes me what people sell at garage sales. Especially where I live. I guess its easier to do that then go through the hassle of Ebay or similar avenues. Those lamps would look great around a rattan sofa. Especially if you could find a corner rattan table to prop one on. I have about 9 vintage lamps...which is kind of ridiculous because I live in an apt so most of them are in a closet  But I only display 2 ceramic black panther ones whose shades need to be relaced. Oh the glory of vintage! Those are mighty fine and its amazing what you can stumble across. |

Just got home from some thrift store crusin'. Picked up a couple of things. A nice print. I can't make out the name. I think it says Sam Amian 93 and under that Eu haczeia oe. I love the print. Also my weakness for coconut carving heads. I think this one is a professor!! KK |

Local Hot Rod guy showed up at my store today with this in the trunk of his '55 Chevy. Said he was sick of moving it around the garage & I could have it if I wanted it. DUH! No brainer! Now I need to get it open so I can replace the Village People era title cards with something more kool! |

Liz, that hurts! Just when I thought we were bonding! The juke does have a kinda Moai-like profile. Is there such a thing as Polynesian Doo-Wop? Where's Brian Setzer when you need him? He can play anything. I'll bet he could muster up some Rapa Nui Doo-Wop! |

I've poked around a little bit on the web,(when I can pull myself away from TC!), & it does appear to be harder to find than say, the mahogany version. It really is in nice shape & you shoulda seen the years of tar & nicotine I cleaned off of it! I'll be sure to report back on the converter box. |

In the past 5 years I think I have bought maybe 3 things off Ebay. These were one of them. Pair of mirrored display boxes from the 50s. Including shipping the total price was less than $60. I plan on using them to display my Coco Joes and Hula girls. Holla! |

Picked up a few things today. A cool sailfish carving Some carvings by S. Haas...according to the shop proprietor an eastern european carver who came to America in the 40's and then went to the pacific and south America in the 50's and 60's and did lots of carvings. Could not find anything online yet about him but S. Haas and S.H. are on the carvings. $3.00 worth of repair materials. And a cool little rattan shelf. A good day. KK |

Liz, those are killer! Here's one I picked up for $3.00 last year at a trailer park yardsale. I was thinkin' of filling it with hula girls, but I also inherited my mom's S&P collection, so maybe I'll do that on the non-tiki side. I got all mom's stuff from the 50's. My sister doesn't get "the whole vintage thing". She says "it's just old stuff" & she'd rather have new. She doesn't get the greasy hair & the sideburns either, but I think she could grow them if she wanted to. |

Thank you--I gotta go buy a hammer so I can hang 'em  I think there is a thrift in town that sells hammers for like $1 so I am swinging by there tomorrow so I will take a pic once they are hung and filled up. KK good carvings you found. I think your tiki room should be coming along grandly. Let us know how its looking on that thread you started. BK jealous of the price of your box. I actually have another box that I just got a few weeks ago but my friend is fixing the mirror so I will post that when I get it back. Whenever I am out thrifting I always pick up S & Ps esp if there is only 1 lone shaker by itself. Never pay more than $0.75 for a single or $ 1 for a pair. I also pick up those toothpick holders and any other little trinket like Statue of Liberty lighters. This is like 1/20 of what I have. Shakers and misc tourist trinkets that I find. My favorite are lame like the feet that say :"I walked my feet off in Canada (oh and NO ONE give me crap about those horrible tiki shakers. They were one of those "tiki" gifts from a friend that I got not too long ago. Its the thought that counts, right?) |

Here are those shadow boxes filled up. Not too happy with how jumbled everything is but whatever. I am afraid that they will fall off the walls so I tried not to stick a bunch of heavy stuff in them. I was able to clear up enough room on my shelves to get some of my mug collection off the ground. Lord I need more room!

I went to the flea market and pretty much scored...I got a set of bedside end tables(double tierd) for $20..They have brass feet and brass wired magazine holders underneath the tabletop. 3 old Hamms Beer items including a Hamms stuffed Bear, a 3d molded bear holding sign(broken ear), and a Hamms on tap celuloid for a light most likely. I also picked up a hood ornament for a 56 chevy for $10...pitted, but still nice looking for my wall. [ Edited by: Tom Slick 2009-06-04 07:46 ] |

haha, thanks Liz! :P I'm a popkulture kind of guy, what can I say?! It seriously makes me mad when I go out hunting, because I cannot keep focus on just one facet of collecting...There are just too many things that were cool, that I have to get em all! And those PBR metal displays do go for a chunk of change! I've always wanted the one I got because I like to drink Pabst, and they are so cool looking! Anyhow here are the chair and shelf, I picked up today. can't see it, but the shelf has an atomic age feel to it, and has a starburst type logo on sides..

Tom I hear ya on the mass collecting. I bought the same shelf unit awhile ago but it was kinda beat up so I spray painted it black. Good finds and great deal on the chair. Rubber poop--nah not quite--but it may have something to do with Mickey Mouse. Dont get excited it was something that made me laugh when I saw it. Will be in the mail tomorrow. |

If this is the case of name changes, then I now deem myself CrapTOMic, on this thread, and my living space shall be known as Ca$a dé ¢rapopolis... BK, I just used 5 GIANT tubs(w/rollers) and cleared all my Hot rod/lowrider/custom styled HotWheels collection away. I had over 500 hanging on my wall alone on 10 of those diecast display frames, and at last count, my total collection was in the 1,500 range...I already had 7 smaller boxes and tub containers put away full of diecast goodies. I had been collecting HW since 1999, but unfortunately only own a very few redline versions. Liz, on the tiki finds thread, that Trader Vics ashtray is sweet. I've been looking for that one for a while, but haven't been able to find one in an acceptable price range. [ Edited by: Tom Slick 2009-06-08 09:30 ] |

Tom, the cars you see in the case are all slot cars, except for the station wagon & trailer. I've managed to keep my Hot Wheels obsession limited to traditional Rods & Kustoms with a few vintage race cars thrown in. Til next time, I'm Count Crapula & this is my crap! |
