And such a variety of mediums as well! one complaint though - catching up on your thread after a while takes too long and causes sensory overload and brain malfunction!!!

Sounds like some Omega man luddite thing to me! and i checked out your website... where's my Cadillac Eldorado you don't wanna be on the bad end of a Colwood Nuclear-tipped Glow-in-the-Dark BurnMeister 2000... werd. and yer waterfall is outtasight! red!red! :) Anyways,did some backgrounds for the CHOP at Babalus as well as a few backgrounds/pieces elaborating on a tapa/abstract style developed when i was doing a lot of fabric prints at work and on the sly... this first one vibrated with a warm beachy feel... the waves lapping in the volcano smoking the semi transparent shields i like how it leads my eyes the beams of the sun hitting the water and it was fun breaking up the land and volcano and the windmill/propeller of the big palm blowing a breeze to cool down the very hot day.. what a happy accident! :) "Summer Shorebreak" ink and colored pencil on paper this one i sketched out in a sepia water-soluble pencil AFTER the ink base had dried... the shield on the left is nudging the middle fellow over while the shield on the right is vigilant,watching him ensuring his safety! and the best part is that the middle guy is actually a guardian as well guarding that little disembodied head thar below! simple and sweet! makes me smile! "the Guardians" ink and colored pencil on paper Sometimes the fabric print styled ones take on a life of their own the elements seem to sing/or dance or jump might as well jump! :) Anyways, the two bottomround sun-like elements appear to be adding a loud vibrating outward kind of feel and those "tapa-bars" seem to be blocking off access as well as invading the space of the momma flowers and her little biddy babbies!:) the one on the bottom right is cut-off and obviously scared! Ah! the beauty of the narrative that lies within a piece! "the Commotion" ink and colored pencil on paper and my favorite of the session... that's actually a sepia,not a black for the dark areas! This colorway was fun.. the green and yellow background were exciting enough but... i decided to try something that could throw the whole thing off! the tip of the bleachpen was kinda glorpy that day sometimes it just leaves a perfect bleach bubble on a line that POPS and sprays over a part of the drawing... Anyways-i flipped the pen over and used the scrubby side and glorp! same thing-especially by the figure lower right... after rinsing and doing the sepia brush and orange one (it bled splendidly thru the bleached area a different surface than the unbleached inked area.. Anyways,here it is! decided to pay homage to Chagall and put an upside down fern up top! and that's a sideways "hut/motif" mix... The whole piece would fall apart if you took out just a few details i feel like it's tenaciously floating over the paper surface shouting to the villagers an alarm of some kind! "Jungle Cry" ink and colored pencil on paper But wait! there's more! Also did this on a piece of wood that was slated for woodburning! wood donations graciously accepted! Anyway, did this morning piece in gouache tried to get that same kind of "depth" of environment in this one Also wanted to cram a LOT of things into a little space and to make them work.. that hopefully explains my palm tree/plumeria overlap the sun has a kind of Blast-off sequenced take-off and the hut was fun just to try to scrape it down to it's essentials lots of hints of detail but really not much.. huh? "Morning" gouache on wood next one is an acrylic on unprimed wood.. i layed the acrylic down all watered down and swoooosh! parts of it started to soak in and spread! AAAAAAAAh! but after a little bit of figgerin out it became friendly.. Last week i got home and smelled Corned beef! and had to wait ,like 2-3 hours and just smelling it and mmmmmmm! it drivin me nuts! this is an expression of that! "Thoughts of Dinner"acrylic on wood Here's a detail! and lastly.. another woodburned and ink tinted piece from the Colwood Nuclear-tipped Glow-in-the-Dark BurnMeister 2000 onto a carving platter from my pal Squids! Thanks Squids! :) what's really cool about it is that it's full of hacks and nicks and cuts from countless slicings and dicings of turkeys and beef and roast beast for greedy little mouths and foul smelling carnivore fingers Ah! Actually,it is filled with turkey and beef and roast beast MANA! or not! :) Anyways ,this piece called for two different tips as you will see by the thick and thin lines in this one! "the Warm Aloha" woodburn and ink on wood carving board Here's a closeup of him waving hello or goodbye!:) And remember ALL THIS STUFF AND MORE can be YOURS at Damon's on the 21st at the Tiki Magazine Release party! I'm thinkin some big canvases are screaming for this style! Mango-Jungle Cry is really a compelling one... it's half fabric print and half narrative.... a chimera,of sorts..... like one of them things they grow in some pentagon lab miles beneath the earth.... Thanks so much for all the hugs and nice comments and jokes at Damons! it was fun AND overwhelming seeing all y'all! But not as overwhelming as Thor's velvets....... :) Brad! Been enjoying taking a flat linear drawing and diagonalizing it and playing with light and shadow and creating different planes yet still trying to keep it readable...talk about gettin transported! Stuart Davis likened abstract painting to jazz and loooooved Bach organ fugues as well-both of them playing with notes and riffs and timing... balancing it..kinda an aural type of painting! And my pleasure about the Damons... Everyone on the planet needs to see your art! (except the dictators,cuz they would kidnap you and make you their court painter!) Ben!Pomona-Glass House-last night opted to stay in the studio out of the rain heard they're playing the Troubadour this weekend... Spermy's going...you busy? Sneaks! thanks! i have a little secret pet-project involving fabric prints so stay tuned! the show a Damons was swell and i was stoked how many people left the booth with an adopted piece! I hope it brings them all joy and giggles! Ben-they're waiting for you at my house... i told em they were going to Frankies and they were excited! Thanks man! After Damons I spent a lot of time in the studio unpacking and such when suddenly the fever hit! Seeing as i had some new pads of watercolor paper i did what comes natural! Finished 8 pieces (3 are awaiting scans-cuz they're BIG! and about 20 sketchbook pages of abstract studies and solutions.. i had a few days-was in hermit mode why not play and relax and recover from Damons people overload! :) here's what i come up wit... "Five Tikis" "the Traveller's Tale" i like how the lower right corner evokes a ship with passengers just slightly...... "the Rowers" a standard theme these days... always fun to draw and elaborate upon "the Grouch" testing the waters on flattening multiple views/overlapping/etc. diggin the way the hands landed on the page! :) and lastly.. "the Sun at Rest" a kind of Paul Klee inspired gent! That's all! back to Work!

He's gonna burn the edges-mount em on wood and clearcoat em! They look cool at Frankies near the Shrunken Head painting! :) Did a few BIGGER drawings (fergot the size...some European measurment) on the Arches with ink and tissue paper staining and some water-soluble pencil shading... HERE'S THE CLEANER SCANS i took these just so you can see the GROUND being BROKEn with these... It seems like the Code is slowly being cracked on this style And what a fun journey it has become! Here's a fun little simple one "the Undergrowth" When i was a kiddle, one of the best things to do was to run off into the wilderness areas and just explore.I discovered that,under all the bushes and grasses.that there were nests and bugs and nifty little ferns and such! I guess this piece is a salute to that... Here's a drawing where a petroglyph has been stylized into a character or characters.... Let me introduce.... "the Flower Eaters" Here's some studies for Tiki Moderne Abstract tikis that i decided to give a fabric print composition to.... "Six" Also attempted to simplify/revisit the Cannibal King but in a cuter/abstracty style! detail found a new way of sbstracting skulls paring them down to essentials... Also, been working on the whole FEAST theme.. Here's 3 that developed one after the other... Each one a little bit different in characters/vegetation/and style a little too! "Feast Day" I like the birdman in the back,shouting his friends onward! the next one has four of my little Moai friends jaunting along... This one makes me smile sooooo big! the colors just pop off the paper! "the Dancing Platter" some details.... and this last one,a little deeper in the jungle and a little more mid-day... "the Meal" I like how this one has a Hawaiian,a Maori,and an Rapa Nuin (is that how you say it? Rapa "New-ee-en"? So many stories pop up when i look at their attitudes and body language.. I'm glad that this style has gone so well... I had been searching for a style for my half-written "little lost tiki" kid's book and i think this may be the look for it! :) Funny how it all just clicks into place! Just got a bunch of canvases,a few biggies and i think i may tackle one of these-probably the Dancing Platter one! and just so you don't think i dropped the paintings entirely... started this one..some abstract masks... It's that hy falootin, reel arteest, metric sized paper that he uses. :P I couldn't do it right myself so I took mine to a framer and had them float the art between the mat and glass. I should learn how to do it myself; I'd rather spend the money on the art than the framing.

As for the matting/mounting question... i usually just buy some matting/papyrus/bamboo thatching-spray mount it to a pre-cut size of illustration board-or even foamcore(this is for the papyrus/thatching-the regular matting is thick enough-cut it to size-get that puffy 2-sided acid free tape-apply it to the back of the drawing-balance it OVER the mat before applying-then slowly lower it onto the mat-press down-do one corner first and work outward while you press it down-so you won't get creases or buckles... TADA! now put your (cleaned both sides) glass in and the mounted drawing after that-and secure the drawing/mat/glass from the back! DONE! hi-falootin? who uses that word anymore? teaKs!-Good to have you visit! Stained Glass? if it weren't for the lead-I'd be on it so bad!
