Finally carved something again!
I had to move in March, so with pre-moving, moving, and post-moving, I hadn't carved in over a month.
Until this week. I started these two. One's a little further along.

Got one burned and sanded.

Now that's a "stunner." Great looking marq!

Nice,
I've been working on the same piece for about 2 months.
Hard to let them go.
That's how you push the bar up.

I love your Marqs! They always turn out so authentic or even ancient in their style and finish. Excellent!

Thanks for sharing

Love this fella! What a gorgeous tiki!

P

I said it on facebook, and it bears repeating here.

Awesome piece bro. Very inspiring.

He's got attitude! He looks out over the pool and says "I am king of my domain!"

Nide one Bill

Thank you all for the great comments!

K

My current favorite in the Carving Post. The owner is very lucky!!! Well done.

4

I've been wanting to try one of these. It was a natural progression from my tiki skulls.

T

Love it! How much would something like that cost a folk art aficionado?

4

It's $120, thanks for askin'.

P

day of the dead!

Love it bro. Good stuff.

P

Bump

Ya,
you could give us a thrill.

P

yeah, I think Bill has made the move to facebook...I don't see him around here much anymore...

And once again, these skulls are bad ass!

Well, I guess if he's gone we could just talk about him.

If we all pile on he HAS to respond. I guess since he moved from almost-paradise to paradise he's too good for us

Why are my ears burning?!?
Hey guys, yeah it's been a little while since I posted in my own thread. I did move to Kauai in Oct '11, and am just loving life here!
Every day I get to drive past the legendary Coco Palms Resort on my way to work at a screenprint shop, where I work with Chongolio and print shirts for places like Tahiti Nui.
I've only done one tiki since I got here, and I can't post a pic on this computer. I did post it on my facebook page where everyone can see it (well, except for you, MDM!!)
Thanks for remembering me, I'll update when I got something.

T

Only ONE tiki?! wth?

Pick up those chisels and get busy!

4

Okay, now the SECOND Kauai tiki finished!
It's 4' tall Banyan log.

Great tiki, exotic wood, beautiful location - WINNER!

PS - We missed you chopping at Mojave Oasis this past weekend

Carving banyan on Kauai would not suck 4WD, the tiki looks great and glad to see you back.

P

I saw it on Facebook, but had to comment here as well...Excellent work, as always...While on the Big Island in 2005, I checked out Aloha Woods and bought some Koa, they also had some odd local woods available, like Plumeria, and Mac nut...Maybe you should find some of those woods to try out as well...You're work is always so nicely detailed and crisp and clean...Keep it up.

Aloha!

I don't detect any rust on those chisels of yours. You are back strong as ever.

4

Thanks guys!! It's great to be carving again!
Here's a couple more shots of it.

The checking of the wood gives it a cool vintage look. Trying to get wood to dry is a real pain in moist environments. I have a wood shed just for that purpose. Looking forward to see more!!

Great looking marq and congratulations on your move to paradise! (I know that's a bit late...)

I had always thought that their might be a pretty decent tourist market for traditionally inspired tikis on the islands. I'm assuming you've been to Havaiki in Hanalei?

Enjoy paradise and glad to see that you are still carving away!

Love that shop! We print their T-shirts at work, too.
