Watango, thanks for stopping by and thanks for your kind compliments! The boats are a bunch of work, but the reward is seeing them finished up. My first time at Oasis this year... and I'm really looking forward to it! There is always lots of talented artists at all the events, and Oasis is no exception to that. Tiki Kupcake, I can say that I will have a very diverse selection of creations with me at Oasis, and 50% of it will make it's premier appearance that weekend! I'm looking forward to meeting you and all of the other attendees at this year's event! |

Seeks! Good to hear you scored some swell last weekend! I could use some waves right about now... a fish out of water. Thanks for all the congrats on the new work, I'm keeping busy. Mega Marq turned out alright in the end, and I think he'll enjoy my backyard. My first tiki, yep, that's something that many of us like to keep on the downlow. The first picture above in Spamtastic's post is one of my tikis from long ago, the rest are his tiki carvings. |

"Only thing left to carve is the spears that the tikis will hold. " Spears or paddles? In any case great job!!!!! Happy to see mega marq finished at his place, and I don't talk about PNG gope: sometimes i'm tired to see full of nice pieces !! J. |

laojia, thank you very much for the compliment! These Marqs will be holding spears as they voyage to new islands to conquer! They are currently on the drying table and tonight I'll get them all painted up and lashed together. This boat should be wrapped up later tonight and if we can get a spot of sun the next couple of days I can get a picture of it finished. Mega Marq is also happy to be in his new home. I know, quite the barrage of new work. Things have been busy around here though! |

Benz, thanks for stopping by and for the words of encouragement! You're doing some inspirational work yourself these days. Nose to the grindstone here... and its only June 2nd. Lot's to make between here and August... hope I can make it across the Continental Divide with all I'm bringing! Mahalos, Seeks! I do wish I was squandering carving time out in the water catching some waves though. Catch a few for me next time! |

Jim, thanks for stopping by! As always, I appreciate your feedback and compliments! I went back through and grabbed a couple different pics and cleaned 'em up a bit... The PNG work continues to be a fun challenge for me... painting is a relaxing end to all the carving. Just striving for some fun, different things. The Gope pictured is 24 3/4" H x 7 3/4" W I've got a few more in the works for Oasis, and maybe a couple more surprises along the likes of your Pagui. leleliz, thanks also for stopping by... complements appreciated! I've had the Hawaiian pair in mind for a couple months, and drawn out for almost as long. Kind of gives you an idea of how big the stack of "to do's" is and how many different irons I've got in the fire. But it gave me time to think about the ins and outs of the cuts... and things are progressing along just fine on the first one. :D |

Another carving that I've been looking forward to getting around to... and now I've put the wraps on it this evening. I've envisioned these guys in pairs, one on each side of a bar, a wall or a room. I've got one done, and after another new piece, I'll get his twin carved. The Idol of Wailua. 27" H x 7" W |

Watango, thanks so much for the compliments! My lovely wife had the hat made as a birthday gift. I have plans to have some made for Oasis now that the pattern is on file, I'll let you know potential cost after I get a batch done up. Polynesiac, thanks for swinging on by! I appreciate all the kind words! I kind of saved PNG for something to explore at a later date, and now that I'm getting into it more it is pretty fascinating. Watch for more to come! |

I think you're onto something again! I've done some research in books on PNG and looked at a lot of pictures. The most valuable info I've found at my local museum. They've got a great collection. |

Still carving through this summer's vending merch, but over the last couple of days I have been working in some decor for the backyard. It's starting to give the basement tiki bar a run for it's money, and as soon as the weather decides to warm and the tropicals take off, I'll have an island paradise. For the last couple of years I've wanted to do a mileage post with South Pacific islands and the distance from my yard. With the buoys I found, we created a nautical area, and the post had the perfect home. 10' tall with the largest sign about 34" wide. And to cover areas of the fence and spice things up, I started carving some larger flat pieces to hang on posts. 2' H x 9" W Gotta get back to something fun I'm working on.... Mahalos, liz! Ah yes, Tiki Temples. That's the "something" after the "something." Actually, they are hard to concentrate on lately with sunny "warmer" weather outside. Much easier to hunker down in the dead of winter when there are no skateboards, beaches and backyard cookouts to distract one from their work. But fear not, I have re-thought some things, and that has lead to a new idea that involves the original concept! Details to come! |

A few months back I was doing some sketches for new Marquesan work and one of the drawings jogged my memory. Trader Vic's in the International Marketplace had these great Marquesan tikis hanging outside. I remember being drawn to these tikis in a post that Gecko made many years ago before the Vic's was demolished. I forgot about them until Max from Taboo Island posted a picture. That got me motivated again, and I set out to do a piece inspired by those tikis. This pair each comes in at 24" H x 6.5" W. I have plans to make a few larger ones also. |
