Brilliant. Nice design. Echoing Mike's comment: great photo. I like the white you added to the skulls as well. |

That is a beautify designed and executed Tiki. I love the flow and the slant on this design. Excellent! |

Thanks for looking in and commenting, guys! Surprise! It's only half a tiki. Flat back for hanging on the wall. |

Bill, I wasn't sure when I saw the pics last night but now I'm pretty sure it's the "negative space" that draws me to this tiki - the amount that you carved away. Very bold. |

Started like that, 2011 will be a good year! The neck is really not thick, not risk it breaks? J. |

Yes, the neck is the weak point, but I think it's stronger than it looks in the photos. If dropped, it would break. Handled with a little care, it'll be fine. I also put a good amount of Minwax Wood Hardener on it. |

So does the wood hardener affect the stain at all? |

On this one no, but on others, yes. It sort of seals the wood surface (in addition to soaking in) and that affects the stain. Stain needs to penetrate some. |

Will, if you mean those 3 ten footers, I haven't heard from him since them. I left them standing, but just in temporary spots. He was going to "install" them, but I'm thinking it might not be until late spring. |

I imagine it would. I've only painted over it. Perhaps if you only applied it to the back, leaving the top surface uncoated, then you could still apply stain in the normal way. |
