Thanks everybody for the nice comments! This one is a sliced out section of a large driftwood log I found at Wailua beach. This is my first go at Koa wood. :D The tree grew in the mountains of Kauai. Really killer stuff, man. Dig it. What kind of wheel(s) do you use on your grinder? I just got a grinder and haven't played with it much - I think the chisels are going to get jealous. |

This was last week's deadline - a 17" tall Marq carved out of Monkeypod. I started by roughly cutting off the outer white wood, I didn't want a two-tone tiki. This is before stain. Finished! |

I carved this Marquesan Bust almost a year ago now, but I just took this pic of it the other night. The lighting was just right in my kitchen! This was just with my cell phone. I'll have to recreate it with a real camera. :wink: |

that last one is killer... I'd love to see you do a 2 tone on koa where just the details & recesses were in the heartood & you didn't torch it at all... nice work as usual bro... |

I think that would be a harder task than I would want to do. That outer white isn't uniform in thickness. |

and I think the key is gonna be carvin' it out so much that between the recesses & tats, very little of the outer layer is lft... |
