Thanks guys! I AM carving as fast as I can, because suddenly I have commissions lined up and waiting.
Look for an update pic tonight.

Update as of today:

I'm not thrilled with the headress on Kanaloa on the left, but my friend loves it, and it's for her so...
I'm liking the Lono, I just need to figure out how to carve the last segments in the headress, and then on to final sanding tomorrow.

what a great looking pair those two are! I love the headress on the one on the right.

nice work!

4

Thanks Harro! Stay tuned for the finished pic on Sunday...

Didn't get to final sanding today, but I did get more of the headress done.

H

Looking good!

B

YES, I'm Really liking Both headdresses. Nice CLEAN, Crisp detail work!

4

Finished!

Well done, Bill.

I love how the headdresses turned out.

4WD,those turned out awesome!! You have a very distinctive style. Great job. I love the color you get too!

Craig

S

Outstanding work! clean crisp sharp Nice chopps.
Looks like you spent around a week right? on both?
You are on fire.

4

Thanks Kate. I'm happy with Lono's headress, and I've come around to being okay with Kanaloa's. Something about the artist knowing how it was supposed to look.

Craig, thanks on the color. It's Golden Dark Oak Walnut. Two half-cans of leftover stains, mixed together!

Thanks seeks, yup, both were started last Sunday, and finished this Sunday.

Tomorrow, the start of the next order.

B

dang bill ,your turning into a tiki machine
i really like those guys

Dude!! I have seen your work at the last oasis. And I gotta say that I freakin dig on alot of the Tiki's you carve. One of these days I would like to commision you to do a Tiki for me. Thanks for posting!!

There's no mistaking who these are by, whatever style/region you're working in. Great job on both headdresses! Do you do your shadows with the torch? They're always spot-on. I see a lot of tikis that look "overburned" (or underdone!) but you get it just right.

Thank you Buzzard, Spermy, Paipo, Grog, and Thomas!
Spermy, did you say Hi at Oasis? I met so many people...:-? But I'm always up for a commission, so lemme know! :D
Paipo, Maybe THAT'S what my 'style' is, consistent shading!

Speaking of commissions, I have one for Father's Day, and I started it today. here's where I'm at.

I need to work the Dad's name in the top of the headress, and the 4 daughters' names into the back.

B

pretty cool,i like the toes

Bill,

Kanaloa & Lono came out excellent. This next one looks to be great, too. Any father would be proud to get that one!

Cheers,

Aaron

B

enough to make any dad Proud. Nice stuff 4wheel

Thanks buzzard, AA, and Ben!

I did just a little more on the Kahuna Jay tiki. (that's what I have to carve into the forehead). I carved in the teeth, and part of the headdress.

While I had the camera out, I took two pics of my work area. I know I'm a month late for Show Your Workspace Month, so what! :P

The outside workshop.

The inside workshop. You can see the outside workshop in the background.

Today I started another commission, and I used a crazy-dangerous tool I borrowed from my neighbor. It's a regular Skilsaw, but has a vertical chainsaw attachment! :o

It worked perfectly for what I needed done.

These are 37" tall, are 6x8 Doug Fir, and will be going to someone here on TC!

4

Finished this tiki yesterday.

and then whipped out this tiki for a graduation gift for a friend's son.
Start to finish time - 3 hours! Yes, bare log at 9:30 AM, to stained tiki at 12:30 PM!

He's about 18" tall.

I was real happy the way it came out, lots of personality in a small package.
I thought about keeping him.

B

Three hours?? Kill me now! :)

See ya on Saturday! (And hopefully I won't be dead)

S

7 days and then 3 hours. You rule dude!!

thats some great work and only 3 hrs wow .
i like kuhna jay ..cant figure out why ..

Here's an update pic on the 4 Moai.

you really have a super clean style Bill..

Very cool. Retro, Art-Deco, Witco!

Man, those are awesome!!!

4

No further progress on the Moai quadruplets, but I started a new tiki at the chop, worked on it more today, and here it is.

S

Looks great I love the 3rd strong looking leg.

Nice...has a Witco grain type feel....

4

Glad you like them, Nelva. I'd hate to have to start over.

Here's a pic of the chop tiki, which I finished on Monday, which makes it a 3 day tiki. I can't keep up the 3 hour tiki pace.

This one was not a commission, so it's available...

B

Man, This is an Excellent tiki 4wheel, 3 or however many days, Excellent!

4

I finally went back and finished this tiki from a month or more ago.

It's 5 feet tall, and is a trade piece, for front and rear axles for my truck.

That may not sound like a deal to you, but I'm happy.:D

4

So today I finished this one:

A couple bought one like it two years ago, and wanted another to go on either side of their front door. It's 3'6".

Then I started and finished this:

It's gonna be a fencepost, I have three more to complete the order.
It's carved out of an 8' peeler core. I left it full length, but the customer will trim it down to 6' when he installs it.

There was still sunlight, so I personalized my carving sawhorse:

Tomorrow, back to the real job.

Now why didn't I think of that? (I still have to decorate my chisel boxes too.)

B

Hey Wheeler,

You should borrow Buzzys, or Mieko's burner and Tikify that little red borro on your saw horsey. :)

4

I'll let you do it, next chop!

Bill!
I wake up from a long nap and WOWEE!
You went off
so many great new pieces!
and the sawhorse....
pure funkified genius!!!!
happy birthday again!

T

Nice moai. How in the heck do you get the grain to stand out like that?!

Dude, that is sooooo sweet! Perfect.

C

You better not be carving my damn logs over there ;P

4

Thanks LLT, BigT, and surfinT.

I get that grain on the Moais to pop with a nylon 'wire wheel' that goes on the end of a drill, and a lot of time!

Clys, logs? What logs? :P

Started another tiki today, here's what I got done.

Damn, I put tools in the shot for scale, and it STILL looks small!
It's five feet tall, or long, since it's not standing.

Wheeler - YOUR AN ANIMAL!!

4WD your a pro at carvin those marquesan tikis

4

Yesterday's tiki is now a finished tiki.

The customer wanted a second tiki to "match but not match" another tiki they were getting, one I had on hand.

Here's the two together.

Wow, the comissioned fence posts look great.
It would look great as an entry way to a tiki bar as well.
Damn, my wheels are turning again.....
