That's nice.
There is a lot going on there.
The way you paint them,
that'll be the best.

Thanks Grog!

See you at the June International Tiki Market Place at Don the Beachcomber?

I'll be vending again!

Andy, thanks a bunch for the compliments! Nice to see all the tiki carving going on here these days.

I'll try and stop by a bit more often... Summers are usually crazy busy for me.

Will, thanks for your kind compliments! Out of all the PNG work I've done the last few years, this piece is just so different from everything else. I'm really looking forward to painting this. After all the tedious and cautious carving its nice to kick back and relax with the brushes.

incredible carve looks great...and love the colors grog picked out for it too. :)

great carve
grog- happy Easter

Grog... I always knew you were dangerous around Photoshop.

I was thinking more in the line of earth tones for this piece though... But I could try and market it to Party City...

See you soon my friend!

Anthony... Thanks for the compliment! Not ready for the dayglo pallet though. :)

Hang10... Thank you!

GROG you go straight to your rock -walled room without dinner and take your neon paints with you. BAD caveman! Beautiful work as always Lake Surfer.

Thank you cy for your kind compliment!

Is an honor to have a talent such as Grog enhance one of my carvings... No matter how day glo it is.

Wow! That's a really cool carve, Dave!
(with or without GROG's paint job) :)

Bowie

Whoa! That's awesome. looks like a wide grain conifer which makes it even more impressive since it's easier to crack & split.

T

I think Grog got that color scheme from this thread:

This piece really shows off your incredible skills Lake!

Beautiful carve!

Bowana... Thanks much sir!

My color choices are a lot different from Grog's for sure!

Maddogmike... Wide grain for sure, but it is kiln dried so no cracking or splitting to worry about right now.

Thanks for the kind compliment!

BigT... Thank you kindly for the compliment! Much appreciated!!!

Lori, many thanks for your compliment!

Still painting this piece... Nearing completion but my attention has been diverted to a very large job I'm trying to get done by next week.

Hope to have this mask wrapped up before I head out to the International Tiki Market Place!

See you at the June International Tiki Market Place?

Yes, Yes you will.....

A little press on one of the many bars I do work for... This one is closest to my heart... And home. :)

P

very cool brother... neat place...

I've always been inspired by your pics & posts...

Although I live in California (near several top flight Tiki bars) I've been lucky enough to get to the Foundation Tiki Bar twice in the last three years. The drinks are fine and the décor is GREAT! I always go whenever I'm in the area. From the outside it is a quintessential Milwaukee corner tavern but upon entering you are instantly transported to the wondrous and mysterious south seas. Your only consolation upon leaving is the knowledge that someday you will return.

Jeff, thanks for the kind compliment!
Don't get by these parts that often anymore, but I enjoy checking out your posts and projects!
Keep the wood chips flying!

TropicDrinkBoy, glad you have been able to pay a few visits to Foundation
It is a hidden jem! It's been a real pleasure to help create the bar into what it is today.

Nice write up Dave.

Now get back to work and show us more of that good stuff.

nice work! cool to see your stuff 'in context'.

Sweet

Since tikimecula is posting log porn, I thought I'd post some of my own...

Scored some Yellow Pine and some Red Cedar today. This should tide me over this fall.

Mess and hang10... Thanks guys... Appreciate the kind compliments!

P

score!

I see 11 awesome new pieces of kick ars tikis in your future

I sound like a fortune cookie

:)

Have fun
Lots o pics please

Jon

Score. Mine are still sitting on the trailer. They are 6-10 feet long and are a wee bit heavy to move?

hang10... Thanks for the vote of confidence! :)

Andy, these were all seasoned well. The pine looks like it's been dry for 6 months or more with bark on. There's some heavy ones, but maybe half the weight they should be. Lots of work to get them prepped... Got 'em debarked but I still have to get the knots out and get them sanded down. Free wood is nice, but there's a lot of work to get them ready.

Get a hand truck if you don't have one already... I use it constantly to move big logs around.

Foundation Bar looks pretty cool Dave and nice score with the logs.

Thanks Watango! I'm too lazy to make drinks at home, and why bother when you have a bar that makes them so good. :)

A little downtime before the Hot Rod Hula Hop this weekend, so I grabbed one of the new logs to have a little fun with it. Still some more to do yet... 28" H x 8" W. White Pine.

ATP... thanks a bunch!

He's gonna make quick work of that little guy.

Great carving!

The cannibal is looking good...

Muy awesome! You make it look easy.

Badd Tiki, Atomic Mess and Grog... thanks guys!

Don't know if it gets any easier... they just take less time to carve. :)

Having a perfect log to work with helps a lot, and this one just about was.

P

I dig. :)

T

Cool Cannibal piece Dave!

At the risk of sounding like a complete dope, I didn't know you did fully three dimensional pieces! I'm more familiar with your incredible wall-hanging pieces that fully express three dimensions while only, in fact, using just two ... looks awesome as usual, though!

Love all your PNG pieces...

...by the way, stop being so brilliant, you're making the rest of us look bad...

...nah, keep up the great work!!!!

Cool cannibal Dave , dig the texture .

Eric, thanks for the compliment! Much appreciated!

No worries, I don't carve logs that much anymore. Harder to travel to shows with, and they don't sell like they used to. I do a few each year now though.

When I started this whole thing years ago, thats all I did was logs, but they just don't fit in suitcases as easy as the wall hangings!

Again, thanks for the kind compliment on the wall hangings!

I'll do my best to keep on keeping on, and I'm a big fan of your inspiring work... love how your subject matter and materials are always changing!

Watango, thanks much my friend! I know you're a fan of the chisel marks!

I had a show in Ohio over the weekend and didn't get a chance to show the finished Cannibal...

Here he is...
