wow...that is super cool!

those fence posts are awesome!

The sun came out just long enough to set yesterday:

Never broke 70...

I got a couple more hours into the Hawaiian guy's head:

I hope to wrap it up today.

Makes me want to get some land, some cattle, and fence it all in!

Fences make good neighbors, and I make good fences!

The sun peaked out from under the clouds as it set today:

Pretty much finished carving this guy:

I just have a couple spots I'll fix up when I sand it

I had it on a table and noticed the combo of the tv light and the room light made it kinda look like a velvet painting:

Buzzy Out!

HOK

Great lookin' tiki there Buzzy!

T

Nice tiki Buzz. You still got it!

Now sanded and stained:

Got a couple things to work on, but that's always the case. I'm happy with the results, and even happier with the process...

Buzzy,
I hope you will be vending at Oasis this year !
And if so, will there be a Pin Up ?
and will there be some Buzzy originals there ?

Today's sunset

I'll repost the stained tiki from end of last page:

I was on facebook the other day and saw that someone out there carved a Moai. I thought it had been a while since I carved one so i knocked a little torsoed one out this afternoon:

Dusk photos so the light's bad. It's more reddish than these photos show:

If I don't get too fat and lazy over the next couple months then I cannot think of another reason why not.

Buzzy Out!

The human tiki factory just taps out an excellent Moai in one afternoon! You'll be doing them in your sleep next.. ;]

Yesterday's sunset:

The weather forecast on the radio just now called for a thickeneing marine layer with increased chances of drizzle this weekend...

I sure felt like my factory namesake the last couple of days... I (finally)managed to apply finish to all the pieces I made a couple months back:

That was the second round. I did a total of 42 pieces in all.

Now on to other log based adventures...
Buzzy Out!

Yesterday's sunset(kinda):

I started the day by finishing up the tikis I just carved and the last of the other batch:

I had a little time in the afternoon after thet to start a small mask. Drawn out:

After about an hour and a half of carving:

Where I left it at sunset:

A few more minutes into it and it'll be done.

On to more adventures...
Buzzy Out!

Nice Buzzy! stoped by for the sunset also.

Sweet work. Love the moai. Why isn't Pokey in the picture?

You are a machine

Looks like the San Diego Tiki Factory is running double and triples shifts!

I'm no match for the master but I made a respectable plaster mold mess in my kitchen :D

Found this bizarre old movie on YouTube.

The main character played by Danny Kaye is called "BUZZY" and he's a wise-acre with a taste for the ladies. They do a jazz Balinese broadway dance towards the start. He has a bookworm brother. All he needs is a dog and it's the House of Buzz all over...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA6Q_lPzaJ8

Today's fade:

It's been sunny for a few minutes here and there every few days or so...

I finished the mask, and then I got sick for what seemed like forever

I finally felt a bit better today and did most of a Guankoish mask study:

Since Baron handles security here now, Poki's been taking it easy, taking time to smell the roses and enjoying the finer things in life, like naps:

For recreation, she antagonizes Baron endlessly. Here's one her new hobbies, cheap shot biting him on the achilles tendon:

When he gets mad at that, she runs behind the safety of the tree and mocks him:

Any toy he's partial to she takes away from him:

Good thing he's a good sport!

Thanks Seeks. All those times I wished for no sun while I was in the desert are now coming true! I'm cashing in on my no-wind wishes too!

The advantages of a real McCoy is that you do not lose production time due to maintenance and lubrication.
It's not just making the mess, it's THRIVING in it! What did thor say about creating amoungst the clutter on that clean space show? Whatever it was that he said, it spoke true to me as well...

HAHAHAHA!!!

And look at the dog at the bottom!

I think he's buzzy working out for his pinup pic for Tiki Oasis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7gWB7IzxtU

Only if Buzzy's name was Dave........

You were right MadDogMike, Buzzy did his pinup for Oasis at Oasis. A knock out.

Swizzle from Australia in the Buzzy Bedroom with all the other pinups!

It sure was fun being the photographer, Wendy

You're both sexy and you know it! Buzz, where are the sunsets? Here's the moonrise that got away.

When I saw it, the clouds all around the moon were bright red from the setting sun. In the 30 seconds it took me to get the camera, the red clouds had moved halfway up the sky. 2 minutes later they were completely gone. Like comedy, photography is all about the timing.

A couple sunsets:

A few things I've done/ finished since the last update:

A couple of Maori masks:

They had finish on them but they went away before I could get final pictures of them

I relashed this drum with some more appropriate hemp lashing

Strangely, it only sounds good in the morning now. That's cool though, becuse it used to sound like crap all the time.

I whipped out a bunch of basswood Moais:

The Mega Marq drum is all carved and finished:

It's just waiting for a slab of cow to cover it

I'm currently working on this guy:

Another exotic wood Moai speed carve:

It rained last weekend so I started making router stuff. Here's one I did last night:

Six faces in this one

The growing pile of stuff:

I always say I'll try to update more, but it never happens...

That's it for now.

I agree with Hang10, that drum is fantastic.

M

Killer stuff Buzzy!

Keep em coming!

Mahalo

McTiki

Santa Ana Sunset:

That tower by the sun is the Catamaran Resort Hotel

Continuing on with router,jigsaw fun...

Day before yesterday I made the two guys on the ends:

They're same stencil as the guy in the middle, just cut apart and reworked to make more sense

Yesterday, I made the two guys on each end, and did the reworked mask that's hung up there:

I like the instant gratification of doing these pieces. It's also fun to go out in the shop the next day and have all these new friends there to greet me. 12 pieces in 5 days...Good pace, but,my hands are getting tired, so a couple days off is in order.

Buzzy Out!

The drum is incredible.

Sunset:

More plank tiki work...

I started with a pair of Moais from the graphic on the cover of Aku Aku

Then I made some more without the topknot

Upon ending last night's session, I had this group done:

Buzzy Out!

cool stuff, I like the one at the bottom left best, I think the grain really works with the simple design.

Sunset:

I made three more with topknots that were two toned:

The group:

I like the two toned effect. I'll probably run with that combo for those.

Buzzy Out!

Sweet.

Sunset:

I had an old gate and fence here at the estate that was falling apart, so it was time to replace it all. A couple railroad ties were sunk in to mount the gate and form an entry way. I routed some stock cedar fence planks with 2.5 different Maori patterns for the gate. They're about 5.5' tall, and the gate was 37.5" wide. The rest of the fence will come later. I had to do the gate real quick because the old one was really bad

Here are the planks after routering:

I tried a more complex type of design than I've done in the past

And here it is after staining and installation:

Best damn gate on the block!

Detail:

Nice gate like this makes the rest of my run down yard look even worse!

Buzzy Out!

You should use the fork and spoon as the handle!
