I also started another pendant:

This looks interesting. :)

Guns and knives...are you guys planning a re-enactment?

That was a great story Cammo....I have a black lab named Sammy the Wag...he's kinda like that.

Nice work Buzzy....you really are the Tiki Guy!

Today's sunset:

I finally got around to staining this guy:

Robin: We're planning a REVOLUTION! A TIKI GUY revolution, that is! Or, I'm going to be the mug sniper, bringing my special brand of tiki justice to the wild west.

Billy the Crud: as seen in Hot Rodder magazine! Now that you're a tiki celebrity, you can't come to the chops anymore. Sellout!

Cammo: The coolest thing I ever saw a lab do was rub his head in shit.

Flat black: When kiva was a puppy, she would chew through 1" x 8" x 6' fence planks and turn them into little woodchips. She'd start on one end and work her way down until it was gone. It was the funniest thing to see her dragging a six foot plank around the yard.

Supposed to rain...
Buzzy Out!

Yup.......sellout motherfucker right there. Just LOOK at that fat-faced bastard!! I'm going to get SO much shit over this one!

Sunset:

I finished carving and then stained this guy tonight:

He's 3.5 inches tall, seven eighths wide, and three eighths deep.

Buzzy Out!

Hey Billy and H20,

Nice chattin wit ya yesterday.

Have fun carvin' that foam at Buzzys!

Let it snow,
Let it snow,
Let it snow.

Back atcha, Ben. Was fun hanging out and checking out your shop. Got the damned 4runner smogged, too!
I'm going to use a hack-saw blade and do it on my porch! Did you get that rat yet?

Aloha Buzzy! You got some very cool and fun tikis going on here my friend and I dig the sunsets your a lucky crew to have that good mojo going for you all.Aloha , Mooney

Buzzy! I got us a fat chunk of Mahogany for pendants and stuff. Came from my pool lady of all places. I'll show it to you on Monday.

Here are some better light pictures of this guy:

It was windy enough to knock him down flat on his face while I was photoing, so he has some dust on him in these next pictures

Just have to dust him off and seal him now

I finished sanding the knife and stained it this weekend:

I think the wood is walnut. I stained the handle with special walnut. I figured, "How could I go wrong with walnut on walnut?" I stained the other part of the handle with golden oak. I wanted it to look like brass

Freshly sanded, the blade was way to bright. I did a test on the same wood type and figured using just poly would work just fine

Here it is with a couple coats of shellac:

In other Tiki news:
Guest artist day featuring Buzzard happened over the weekend.

He learned that there is no other planer better suited for the job than the Ryobi planer. I learned that I was out of dust masks...

For those of you who were busy this weekend:

It's that time of year again! The San Diego Crew Classic!!!!

When I first saw the tents, I got scared that they had PIFA and didn't tell me.

The start of the big race...

the winner took a commanding lead!

Congrats to all the participants of this fine event.

Thanks Mooney! We really got a good crew out here...except for Billy. He keeps trying to show me his "wood."

Billy: You got me the first time you tried your "Hey, check out my mahogany log" line. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice,....

I haven't really talked about how great my Ryobi planer is in a while.
It's great!

Here are some progress shots of the knuckle ring from this lovely afternoon:

I finished sanding the ring and got it stained tonight:

Thanks surfintiki. I'm using tools from the micro and mini flexcutpalm chisel sets and two different hook knives. To clean it up after, I use the dremel with a couple mini metal sanding bits.

Only if I don't have to buy any new tools to make it.

dang buzzy that guy looks great,i'm barely getting the hang of carving big guys now i cant wait to carv a little guy

I felt like doing a little carving today. I liked the look of the wood on the knife handle with the walnut stain on it so I wanted to do another pendant with that wood and stain combo.

I picked a Cook Islands Fisherman's god as inspiration.

Here it is drawn out:

Roughed out

A little more definition:

The face and further refinements

Finished carving and sanded:

Stained:

It's 5 1/4" tall and 2 1/4" wide.

Here's a side view of it:

Most of it is 1/4" to 3/8" deep.

Tomorrow, more of the same...for now,
Buzzy out!

What!?! No booty? :)

Did you find that webcam yet, Buzzy?

He's a Tiki Swinger! :)

I love that ring! Very nice detail. I there anything you can't/don't do? Good luck with the revolution!

I missed this a couple of days ago:

(To be executed in my singing voice to the tune of happy birthday)
Happy Anniversary, to me.
Happy Anniversary, to me.
Happy, An-i-ver-sar-y to me,
For two years on TC!

Clap clap clap clap!

In other tiki news:

It's molding time...

Those boxes with the three pieces in them will have dividers between them that I have to do when I clay them in.
I just have to wait for another batch of silicone to arrive tomorrow: 24 hous after that and it's GO time!

I need to make some tikis, any volunteers?

Oh yeah! Another four trees came down today. Thanks for voluntering guys!
This was my haul from this morning:

Looks like a lot of work before I can get to work... :(

Occasionally, when i'm hook knifing a piece, I ll say "Damn, why cant this blade curve the other way? It'd make this cut real easy." Then I struggle with how I'm to execute the cut I want with what I have. Today, my salvation arrived from Warren cutlery:

It's like getting six new carving knives for only $20.55, shipping included!

Now I have to use them!
Buzzy Out!

Funny, I was actually thinking about how you said there weren't many tikis that swing low when I was sanding the manhood down. I think I'll cast it in both "Standard" and "Missionary" versions...

holy truckload-of-tree-trunks buzzman!!!!!

that's one good looking front lawn!

so whats the plan with all these resin tiki bling things you are going to be making? Make sure to post pics of the process - looks interesting.

Did I say... damn you work fast too? so hard to keep up with Buzz the human tiki-making machine.

I did another pendant last night:

Inspired by the lovely artwork of the Marquesas islands

Kiva was there to lend a hand if needed

Most of the carving done

Sanded. It's about 3 1/2" by 2 1/4".

Stained

It's only about 3/16" deep

Being so shallow, it was a difficult task to make the hole for the pendant cord

Just barely had enough room.

Hey Harro! I plan on amassing a giant quantity of tiki pendants to be used as currency when the world economies collapse very soon. Investing in tiki is the new investment "bubble".
It's not that I work fast, it's just that I never seem to stop working. At least I like my job. Except for that damn early morning commute...

Waiting for the UPS guy,
Buzzy Out!

Stand back, it's about to flare up some more:

I mixed and poured the molds the other night and then waited for them to set

I poured a couple test runs to check everything and get the jade color right:

Then I went into full production mode for several hours straight:

This is what I managed to turn out:

Here's my growing catalog of products:

One can never be too safe these days. Lot of riffraff in the tiki scene these days. It's real hard to get a concealed carry permit for a gun out here. Gotta protect the bling I'm sportin' some how. Metal detector safe knife that looks like a harmless tiki seemed like the way to go.

The jade dialed in perfect.

Are you making 2,345 or just 1,827 magnets this time?

How about some Tiki ninja stars?

The jade looks cool, but takes away from the illusion that they are chocolates.

I guess they could be mint, but they aren't the right color for that.

I like the new designs, they look great.

It was about 2:30m am, I was in the kitchen with the scale and gloves on in front of the window thinking that what I was doing probably didn't look to good to someone walking by. I kept expecting SDPD's finest to unload a few rounds into my house because the plastic fork i use to stir looked threatening to them.
Speaking of Mike, did you get "the letter" from him a couple months back?
