Although you were selected as the winner by our panel of judges, you exceeded the maximum number of entries and you are disqualified. Sorry. Your prize is retained by the House of Buzz and its subsidiary, Buzzy Inc.

And in other Tiki news:
I sealed the KU, cleaned up the first post, squared the second one, and am getting ready to do some more kick ass tiki related work!

I'm still planning on planning some really big plans this year!

Here are the final shots of this KU. I love it when a tiki is all shiny and new looking.

It took four coats of stain to get it where I wanted it. It matches real close to the natural colors of the frond pieces I left on the log, as this photo illustrates:

Now I'm switching to small stuff for a few hours. Here's a 6" Hawaiian out of basswood I'm working on right now:

Very good Ku, Buzz.
The little one is going to be very good too.

Mahalo,

Benjamin.

Here's what I managed to get done on the first day of work on this guy:

Here's what I got done last night:

I did the two cut outs and started shaping the back

He has a little tiny tiki butt

There's an extra hidden slot on the top of the headress' back...

which serves the function of being a business card holder

seeksurf, babalu, hiltiki, and benella: thanks, as always!

Hey! Do you sew too?! It's pretty darned frigid up here in Northern California, so yes, by all means, pack appropriately! Wouldn't want his precious parts to get frostbite en route.

I just carved out the face on the card holder:

I broke my string of no teeth tikis. It was a good run, but it had to end someday. :(

All I have to do now is a lot of sanding...

and some sort of detail on the two blank spots left on the headress.

HOKU: You noticed the necklace loop. Good eye! Had to go over the top on this one. I imagined being at work, logging on to TC, and finding a tiki event I hadn't heard about that evening right after work, real close by. Caught without tiki attire, I could simply go to the supply closet, grab some paper clips, make a chain and: Viola! Tiki card holder turned tiki bling pendant. Dressed and ready for action! I say Mir. What about the main event: Sylvia vs. Big Nog?

There actually is a very nice desk lamp that puts out some good light and heat for him to bask in. Not UV, but I think it will keep him a nice toasty brown without setting the business cards ablaze.

Here they are: the new one one the left and the Benzart on the right

They're similar in that neither one is finished at this point.

I shelved it back then while I honed my skills with the knife. I wanted some more practice before I tried all the hard stuff on it, and just never got back to it. Still do not know if I'm "ready"yet. I'll probably finish it on my second carving lesson with Benz, someday. Until then, it motivates me to get better, even in its unfinished state.

List of things to do today:

  1. Register new hotmail email account
  2. Register new fake ebay account
  3. Bid $2,500 on each of the two OA poles available now, never intending to pay
  4. Have a good laugh.
  5. Call the gay sex phone number on the stairs of the magic carpet golf course Moai
  6. hang up on Grog when he answers and hope he doesn't have caller ID
  7. Carve tikis

Why am I always so busy?

stained with some red oak

It has some good contrast between the red and brown shades. I didn't want it too dark, or to be monochromatic. I'm happy with the results. Final step will be to put on some rub on poly.

This tiki has features from my other to do list. For these two tikis, the guy who wanted them needed the following things done:

  1. Two tikis
  2. Kinda Maori styled
  3. Tongues on both
  4. Tattoos on both
  5. At least 5' tall
  6. at least 12" diameter
  7. Dont carve deep
  8. Must support a load
  9. needs places for rebar into the base
  10. Arms over head to look like they're holding up the roof
  11. Big eyes
  12. fat guys
  13. Full bodied
  14. Has to make sense 360 degrees because they will be visible from all angles
  15. Make them look the same, but different
  16. Put a belly button on them
  17. leave as much mass on the bottom of the carvings as possible
  18. Give them nice round butts
I think that was it. I had to take all these factors into consideration when I carved these. The arms above the head request really made it challenging, coupled with the fact that they had to look right from all angles. The second one only has one arm up because I did the same but different request on that part. He's kind of got a good curl to him. First tiki I've done with the head off center line and asymetrical.

Today's sunset:

The Great Sunset Watch Contest II****

OK! Contest time again. Once again, we will be using the sunsets for this one.

Right now, the sun is heading north each day. In a few days, the sun will set on the Catamaran hotel.
Here is the sun moving towards the Catamaran. The Catamaran is the large tower to the right of the sun

Seven days after the sun first touches the catamaran, the contest will start and I will no longer accept entries.
To win, you must guess how many days it will take the sun to reach this building way up north

the first day the sunset hits that building is the winning day.
It's too far to get it and the Catamaran in the same photo.

So, in summary:

  1. Guess the number of days it will take for the sun to go from the catamaran to the big high rise up north on Chalcedony street

and

  1. Guess the exact date the sun will hit the building to the north

Two chances to win!

Winners choose the prizes!

I think that we will get about two more weeks to turn in your guesses.
After a date or number is chosen, it is eliminated from the pool of available choices, so there will be no ties. Enter early to make sure you get the best day!

I'll make up the rest of the rules as we go along...

Good luck all!

Buzzy Out!
