I'm proud to say that portions of my paintings, "Appointment in Havana" and "Palm Springs Medicine Man" have been licensed to the fine folks at Biloxi's Beau Rivage Resort and Casino for their 2008 and 2009 Club Tiki parties. Here are pics of 2 of the Billboards:

Here are the paintings:

Congrats Sam! That's awesome and I really love the Beau Rivage. I am so glad they were able to repair all the damage they suffered from Hurricane Katrina.Well most of the damage.

I hope you get free hotel rooms and gambling money as part of that deal!

P

sam, the woman that ran all the events at the beau rivage before katrina is a good friend of mine. i don't know if she's the one you dealt with or not, but she's always been a big tiki fan. she booked "ape" a few years ago for a tiki party.

i always told her, when i worked with her, that tiki was a cool thing and to keep on it. i sure hope it was her and am very happy for you.

if you need any special work done for your assignment, you let me know.

Thanks so much leleliz and pdrake! I always appreciate your feedback and kind words!

Too Cool!
Love your paintings!
The Tiki threesome Billboard is very funny!
As an artist, is it strange to see your work taken apart and put back together as something else?

Very cool Sam...
It's great to see your art flyin' high for ALL to enjoy!!

BILLBOARD BOY!
Congrats Sam!
Way to go!
I would love to ALL billboards with your art on them
They would be far less of an eyesore than all those others....

Thanks so much, Brad, Meheadhunter and Ken! I appreciate your very kind comps, as always!

Hey Meheadhunter- Thanks for the kind words! I pulled off of the side of I-10, stood on top of my Jeep and shot these pics. Other motorists probably thought I was some kind of a nut!

Hey Ken- Now I need to get it on subway walls and buses!

Hey Brad - it is a little strange to see my tiki head between 2 sets of hips! I just think of it as a sort of collage that someone made using my tiki character....

Sam, it is always better if your tiki head is between one set of........... :)

Well, you do have a point there, Mr. NoNaMe!

Flippin RAD Sam very kool .

Thanks so much jymmy! It's great to hear from you!

Here's a new commission piece called "Batman's Dilemma". I wanted to do Adam West as Batman. The shot of the Batmobile is of one I took at George Barris's shop in '07. He was a great guy in person... Thanks for looking!

a Sense of duty
versus
primal batcat passion...
a theme worthy of high art
in a contemporary sam style!
Artist boy!
:)

Very Cool Sam.....Barris is a pretty cool guy. I've talked with him quite a few times at a few different car events here.

Batman kicks ace!!!

Thanks so much for the comps, Ken and Meheadhunter!

Hey Ken- I always liked those episodes where Batman seems to fall for Catwoman. Julie Newmar or Lee Meriwether - it didn't matter - they were both fine!

Hey Meheadhunter - I like any 60's show with a Barris car!

Here are a few abstract commissions. One shot on canvas and board...Thanks for looking!

"Tantrum"

"Forecast"

"Division"

Batman...Batmobile!!!!
Got my inner child all revved up!!!
Most EX-cellent!

So.. on earlier discussions of a "tiki" squeezed between a set of hips, wasn't tiki an early fertility god, or even a embodiment of the male fun-muscle? Thus, this situation your tiki finds itself squeezed into is rather proper to his historical context. :)

Thanks so much, Brad!

Yes, I'll accept that! I feel better now about the authenticity of how the tiki was used! :)

Hey Sam, Finally got your print framed and it looks really great. Thanks for keeping Detroit tiki alive.

Hey mudbone- Great pics! It looks good there on your wall. Thanks again!

As always, you deliver the goods!

Tasty abstracts and a bat-tastic homage! You never cease to amaze me, Sam!

I hope to see you on billboards all oveer!

Ed Barris and Adam West....two of the greats. Awesome homage Sam and beautiful
abstracts as well. You always inspire!

Great Batman piece! And those 1 shot abstracts
are sweet. Sam is the Man!

Thanks so much, ZeroTiki, mp and Iokona Ki'i! Those abstract pieces are there to show my love for the beatnik culture of the 1950's!

cool art!!!

The One Shot abstracts are very cool. They reminded me of the experimental stuff I used to do with Testors on all kinda materials. Thanks for the trip down mammory lane.

Thanks so much MooneyTiki and Robb! The abstracts are probably the most enjoyable pieces I do.

I hope all is well! I thought I'd post a few new pieces. The first is my Car Kulture Deluxe illustration art for the new issue #37:

Then here's my "Broken Promise of the Flying Car" piece for M Modern Gallery's show this month. It's a tribute to 87 year old hot rod builder Bill Hines entitled "The Leadslinger" (his nickname). I thought it was about time he was saluted with some artwork. The style of this painting is based on an old Houdini magic poster that I like:

Thanks so much for looking!

SAM??? Where you Been??

Sam-always top=notch with your work!
I know that houdini poster!
great job translating it into something else
even more wonderful!
keep slinging that enamel,buddy!

I'd love to make Tiki Caliente, but since I won't be able to attend, the original cover painting from the current Tiki Magazine will be there for sale. "Offering the Lei" will be available there for $700. It's 16"x20" enamel (what else, right?) on canvas.

Then, my 11"x14" painting entitled "Admiration" will be available there for $600. It's enamel on stretched canvas. I originally painted it to be the actual Tiki Magazine cover (picture it with the Tiki Mag logo in the upper left corner). However, it was deemed to be too "dark" in nature, and too much of a possible legal risk to use as the cover. I thought it would have been unique and somewhat of an interesting departure from the norm. Anyhow, in the end, I can understand the concerns, but I still feel that it would have made a killer cover..... AND he's holding a Mai Tai in my upcoming "Player" mug from Tiki Farm!

M

I think "Admiration" 's Bithcin'! You should do some prints!

Thanks Mashuka!

Good to see your mug again, maestro!

Thanks Robb! It's great to show my mugg!

T

Sam love your work!!
Lots of people say how great the logo you did for me is.
And I love it.
Glad to see you do the Tiki mag cover.
Congrats!!!!!

Thanks for letting me know, tikiskip! I appreciate your kind words, AND your logo was a fun project to work on.

sam awesome work just love it

Thanks so much, Marcus! So cool to hear from you! I hope all is well.....

"Admiration" - Thats what I have for your art! U da' KING, baby!
Somebody got that piece at a STEAL FOR $600!!!!

Here are a couple more carved commissions I just finished for 2 new signed and numbered "Creepy Zombie Fingers" (each one is different). I haven't done any of these in a couple of years. I use a grinder, a flat file, X-Acto knife, drill bit, razor blade and sandpaper (sometimes wrapped around a pencil). Thanks for looking!

Ha! Great work Sam!

Thanks, zerostreet! These are a direct result of my childhood "monster fixation."

Nifty fingers there Sam! Can they play "chopsticks"?

Thanks tigertail777! Yes, they play chopsticks all by themselves at 3:16 am if you leave them lying on a piano overnight.....

Here's a new painting I just did. If one person gets a laugh out of it, then I'm happy! It's "The Keeper of The Hair" - A Tribute to That Wacky Donald Trump Hair. © 2011 Sam Gambino. All Rights Reserved. Artwork for "The New Year's Nuisance 4 Art Show and Closing Party" at Gasoline Gallery in El Segundo, CA. January 7, 2011. Original: Sign Painter's 1-Shot Enamel on board: 11 in. x 14 in.
