Very cool Buzzy...I've thought about drums off and on...but it looks like
way too much work...looks perfect to me.

I've always hoped some carver(s) on TC would take up drums.

This is a beaut. I can't wait to see it strung tightly with shark hide!

Great looking piece.

Thanks to you, Babalu, and Professor Robot for getting this back on the world wide web for all to see! Thought I'd never see it again.

Enjoy!

The long lost House of Buzz original video trailer

And, in case you missed the the first two episodes:

Episode 1: Tiki Sanding

Episode 2: Cleaning Mexican Fan Palms

look for more episodes of the House of Buzz much, much later!

Let's catch up on the drum, since that's what I worked on last few days

Finished the bottom of the legs first:

Then I did heaps of sanding on the drum and carved in the decorative designs
Here it is all carved up, waiting for a good all over final sanding, or two

After finish sanding, I started staining it. Here it is with one application

Now after three coats:

Cloudy pre rain weather made crappy light for pictures. It still needs at least one more coat tomorrow.

Jeeez! I need to answer some of y'alls comments. I feel bad that I've been neglecting you all lately. I've been a little sad and out of sorts last several days because I found out my dog has liver and stomach cancer and won't be around much longer. She's been off and on sick for the last few days so I've been distracted from my usual routine with her and haven't been keeping up on TC. I'll try to find some time to catch up tomorrow when I'm cooped up in the house because of the rain.

I got a big new bag of clay to keep me busy for the rain storm!
Buzzy Out!

Hey thanks benz. Glad you could find it in all that mess.
Good to hear from you, I was thinking about you the last couple of days while I was out of town. But more about how you came to my mind later...

First, I need to share the non tiki trip I was on the last few days with my friends and family, here on my TC thread.

Zaya and I went to Las Vegas for one of the most highly anticipated events on my calendar this year:

The SASS western regionals at the luxurious Riviera, located right on the famous Las Vegas Strip!
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/493a18d6.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=3de806b1783ab90e2f1f64c9c12ab33b
It was an absolute blast! I'm just crushed that it had to end and I'm back home to the real world and my boring life as a Tiki Guy.

The perfect escape from the toils of work it was, with three days jammed full of the greatest music, vending, and shooting that one could possibly imagine.

Here I am getting ready to check in and register:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/493a187a.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=10a2d6dfe08ab2e4d930012d8605191c
My SASS name is "Badlands Buzzy"

After I signed in, it was straight to the vending area.

Here I am figuring out what I'm going to vend there next year:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/493a18a9.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=0cad07c21c0303a303fc7d70168ef297
I think I could slap a few of them out... I am also going to make and sell custom covered wagon competition gun carrying carts.

I'm going to reinvest the money I make by carving cigar store Indians and carts into my cache of single action competition rifles and pistols. I cannot wait until they'll let me carry my two loaded revolvers, an over under shotgun, and a repeating rifle in an open hotel lobby for a speed shooting competition
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/493a18ff.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=a129ac80d47b0d0df9d0e796f62f8eac
I'd like to start out with a couple of ruger reproductions for the pistols, and then move up to some nice colts later on when I start hitting the national circuit. Since I sight left eyed and am right handed, I think I can do real well utilizing both in tandem in the competition setting. As far as the over under shotgun, that's a no brainer. There so much faster than the traditional double barrel.

When I'm a full time professional shooter, I'l be going against the likes of Spur Roberts and Billy Boots:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/493a21ac.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=0246d07fe806f4f7db080eff5064f1a0
I don't dress like those guys. They're more gunfighter in the sticks western style. I'm the Top hat, clean and pressed shirt, pants tucked into my black boots with suspenders and arm garters type cowboy. Basically, a fancy pants yankee looking cowboy. With a covered wagon gun cart...

After a full day of competitive shooting, The Smoked Manwiches set was the perfect ending to a perfect event and a perfect trip to Las Vegas:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/493a199f.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=f6b997800b8a1b52ce93092b4931ae6e
I've already started counting the days until next year's event.

Well back to real life now:

I cannot tell you guys how much I love these "tribute" pieces of me!

I can almost see the museum devoted to my likenesses now...

I envision it in it's own room that looks like the one that Michaelangelo's David is in, but with Bamboo Ben decor instead of marble.

The MadDogMike plate will be there in the collection displayed under glass like the Declaration of Independence is:

Tbirdman had a close to finished pendant version of me a while back too. We'll probably cast those and sell them in the gift shop at the museum

Another piece that was based on me will not be in my museum, but can be seen on public display at Frankie's Tiki Room, located on 1712 West Charleston, in Las Vegas Nevada. Open 24/7/365:

Later on in the trip, I pretended that we needed gas in the car and I drove over to where the strip club was hoping to find a gas station. Right before we got to the strip club, I saw this sign:

I went back to the hotel and looked the place up on line to see if Sven or the other experts said it was worth going to. I found a couple quotes online which made me want to go back and actually go inside:

“Every last piece in here was custom made for Frankie’s by the best, most famous tiki carvers in the world. Bamboo Ben, who is the foremost tiki bar designer in the world put the whole fucking thing together,” Moss said.

and

Double Down owner Moss started the process in January, purchasing Frankie’s before luring top tiki artists like Buzzy, Crazy Al Evans , Tiki Bosko, Leroy Schmaltz and Ray to come in and transform the old girl into a Polynesian oasis.

I hope you guys will never get tired of hearing me frequently repeat "I am one of the best, most famous, top tiki carvers in the world..."
And finally, I will not quoting myself when I say all that!

So here's some more of my trip to Frankie's and Las Vegas, where I stayed at the luxurious Riveria, located on the famous Las Vegas strip:

I went over to Babalu's house today and glazed another mug and worked on the new drum.
I got the ouside all smoothy like

It's smaller than the last drum. It's 16 1/2 inches tall. The diameter of the drum rim is 12". The older drum's diameter is about 12 3/4".

My neighbor told me everyday was like Saturday at my job. I corrected him and said it's actually like Monday morning and always having a full week ahead of me.

I needed to let the little drum dry a little bit, so I started on another larger one today. I got the drum part tapered in a few inches more but it was too dark to photo when I was done:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/493f536e.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=975f85722c3dba9984f93ac91e1e2eac
This one is big. It's about 17 inches diameter. It was so heavy that I had to carve it all on the ground. I made alot of progress on it despite working stoop-backed all day. I think I have enough removed to lift it up on to the carving stand tomorrow. There's still a lot to remove from the inside. The rim is over twice as thick as it needs to be. It's a lot easier to clean this out when it's up higher. Tomorrow will be an easier work day.

Meanwhile at Babalu's studio:

That whole bottom shelf, along with another mug laying down on the top shelf, is all my stuff going into a bisque firing on Thursday,

Then it's a glaze marathon...

I also have a mug in the glaze firing right now. Fingers crossed XX.

I'd like to thank all of you guys who sent me well wishes when Kiva got sick a couple weeks back. I got some really good news today that I'd like to pass on to those of you who care. The recheck by the lab they did yesterday showed that what they initially thought was terminal liver and stomach cancer, turned out to be a severe infection that has totally disappeared with the antibiotics she has been on. The doggy doc says all her levels are now within the normal and acceptable range for a dog her age. She still has tumors, but they are not affecting the function of her organs right now as they initially thought.
