"Cosmo At The Moon Palace" - finished work is pretty spectacular, Robert!

The Brooklyn piece you're anticipating is missing one major element though in my opinion - Coney Island!! Drop the Empire State building with the Parachute Drop tower, add a roller coaster and you'll have a killer graphic...especially since Coney Island is currently being renovated as I write this.

Oh yeah, I agree with Brad, brush and canvas is way more personal and meaningful.
Digital art is mass-media. Hand-made paintings is pure artist expression.

Take Care and I'll be watching for your next update. Cheers! G

Great idea TikiG! The parachute jump is THE icon of my youth! There was something so myterious and kinda creepy about it. Seeing it loom over the horizon as my parents drove up to coney...

WestADad, thanks for the order! I will work hard on it this weekend! Hope you love it!

A reminder...everything in my shop is 20% off througout Memorial Weekend!

Did some work tonight....not much...kids wore me out! Going to bed!

 I just assume the world is on California time and I'm thinkin' "Why is he going to bed at 7:30???!!!"

Great looking mermaid you got there Robert

Thanks Mike!

In my opinion 10:30 is pretty early to go to bed, but last night it was not a choice! I sleep very little throughout the week and it all seems to catch up in Friday nights for some reason!

So glad you're happy with your Cosmo print Chris! Hope you tell everyone who sees it that you named him!

As I mentioned several posts back, I have been itching to do some acrylic painting. I've been working digitally for quite some time now so acrylics will be like starting over. But I have gotten much encouragement from two friends, one of which just joined TC and you can see his great work here:

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=36685&forum=21&2

...and at hukilau. And also a few posts up Brad Parker gave me some very uplifting comments....so here is a very early stage acrylic painting of a Maoi:

This is a piece of pine approx. 11x7.

Here's the latest on my Mermaid illustration. Worked on the tail a bit (I know there's a joke in there somewhere :) ). Have been kinda busy with Tiki Tower related things and haven't had much time for illustrate lately.

Also I would love to hear comments on the acrylic painting I have begun which you can see one post above this one!

BT

Nice acrylic work.

I think it looks pretty cool as is, nice colors and contrast. Maybe needs a bit more detail on the far moai, but I'd call the front one done.

Thanks BT! I am happy with the results I achieved on the foreground moai but I do intend to do more work on it. At the very least to practice acrylic painting.

So I'm working 2 pieces concurrently, the mermaid which is digital and this, my first painting since school.

I feel this is really a study to find my way with acrylics, and I figure it is about halfway done. So far I am quite happy with it. Still want to add details in the grass and fix the moai's face and work the clouds. Would love some comments!

Its looking good...the lighting is nice!
Looking forward to seeing the progress!

Thanks! I'm trying to do a very stylized grass....we'll see how it goes.

Be sure to introduce yourself when you come to the Hukilau. Its always nice to meet other local artists. Bring some stuff with you and maybe we can work out a trade?

Thanks, I'll do that. Sent you a PM.

Here's the Moai painting after a bit more work. The horizontal lines you may see at top and bottom are the wood grain.

SheesH!, I'm a nut for painting details, but I am impressed on your rendering of every blade!
Great work!

Loving the acrylics....getting near the end on this one!

Thanks! I'm quite happy with it and very excited to do more acrylic work! Back to the mermaid now...

Back at work on the Mermaid and the Tiki again...

Slow going on this one....am adding in more detail:

I don't know why TC compresses these images so much...to view this uncompressed go to:

Here is a recent entry to my sketchbook:

The mermaid's hair may drive me nuts in the end....Worked on that and the amulet and bit more on her tail tonite! Time to sleep!

I feel I made some nice progress tonight! Here it is so far!

Nice progress. This is acrylic instead of digital right?

Thanks Mike! No, this is digital. The Moai painting a page back has been my only acrylic thus far. After the mermaid is complete I plan on starting another acrylic.

Starting to add some detail to the Tiki's face.

Looking good Robert!! Are you ready to sell me that acrylic Moai? :)

Chris

Thanks Chris! I want to make my own painted frame for that painting. Once I do that I will post pics and you can let me know what you think then! :) I certainly wouldn't mind my first painting hanging next to Cosmo!

Made some progress tonite! Hope to finish this soon so I can participate in the TC art swap!

Looks great. It's fun to go back and see how things have changed: the right foreground coral is completely different now, the Partenon has disappeared, etc :)

Hope you get involved in the Swap, they are great fun

Thanks Mike! I still intend to add some sort of ruins somewhere...

I already have a sketch for the swap (it's in the 2nd page of that thread)...I hope to paint that one!
