McT, I'm curious about how they would look in ebony stain too, however, these are for other people who want the red to show. Soon I will stain one for myself. -Gman "The saw is family" [ Edited by: GMAN 2005-10-09 17:13 ] |

Gus, you're a MACHINE!! If you're gonna stain one, don't use that cedar. The red is too cool to cover up. |

Wow...you can really churn those tikis out with your chainsaw. I dig your style - totally unique to you and your tikis look great! I'm really diggin that cedar one with the detail on the nose - very nicely done. We need to find you an 8 foot piece o' log to go at...I bet that would look COOL I say do a 30 minute carving on a smaller piece of cedar and stain it...see what happens - it might look pretty good have fun PS - your gyotaku is top notch too! |

Mooneytiki, They are red cedar. It grows here in Florida. We don't have any redwoods that I know of. These particular trees came down in a hurricane at this time last year. You can smell the cedar three or four houses away when I am working on a log. My garage smells like giant rabbit cage! -Gman |

Minus the #2s I hope. I'm workin' on an idea for a war helmet that wraps around the eyes. I'll e-mail it when I've got a good drawing scanned. I do like the "stepped" forehead piece on the first couple cedar ones you did. Speaking of eyes, have you given any thought to doing "hollow" eyes, kind of like a skull? Might look mean and nasty given the right brow. Just a thought. -Cornbread |

Moondance, Earnie is ok (see below). Today was the last day of his anti-inflamatories. My wife has been monitoring his progress and is happy with his progress. She is against surgery unless it is necessary. As for having kahonies....I don't know about that. Most folks would just call me an idiot. I'm ok with that. :) I'll be carving later this week. I have an order to fill, so check back in a few days. -G |

Wes, It's just a plain old log in the garage right now, but tomorrow it's gonna evolve into a beautiful tiki carving for a lady in the FL panhandle. I have some drawings, but no real earth shattering ideas. Got any for me....within reason (and the functional ability of my saw)? -Gman |

Thanks guys. I like the way this antiqued tiki is coming out. I'll likely keep this one for myself. Also, Art sent me these pics of a quickie tiki tap I made for him. It is proudly sitting on top of one of his private beer fountains. Have a tall one Art....and thanks for the pics!

Moondance, The top coat of finish is satin but the camera makes it look pretty dang glossy. It's really not that glossy, although it does have a little shine to it. If I remember correctly, the beer tap is like 4" tall and like 1.5" in diameter. He's pullin' yards up in Mass for Art right now. I miss hanging out with those guys up there. -Gman

You know you've got places to stay up here. One of these days we'll make it down to paradise and hang in the GMAN palace. The dimentions on that tap sound about right. He's already helped me to more than a few this evening. Whatever that wood is was a real b*tch to drill a pilot hone through. The darker grains kept kicking the little bit off to the side, but was no match when the big guns came out. Got that threaded grommet in there and set it up so the little feller was positioned correctly. Thanks again. And the answer is soon, real soon I'll be cutting my own tap handles, much to mama's dismay. Yet another hobby. \m/ |
