Today my Wahine picked up a few bottles of Zaya at Costco for cheap (!) so to celebrate we had a couple of Zaya Mai Tais. 1 oz Zaya 1oz ED 15 and home made demerera SS. These were our second Mai Tai's of 2012. The first ones were on New Years at Trader Vic's Palo Alto while watching the Tikiyaki Orchestra. Off to a good start! |

MDM, The Kaiser method is basically to blend the Pearl Diver's mix with the juices for about a minute beforehand, before mixing with the remaining ingredients. I follow it religiously as it's the only way I've been able to prevent butter separation. [ Edited by: kid_dynamo 2012-01-13 22:17 ] |

Yeah I could have sworn I had made this before, but I certainly don't remember it being that good. But last night I had one and enjoyed it so much I had to make another right away. I suppose I can only blame the El Dorado 12 for being that fine of a rum, or the fact I used an authentic swizzle stick. I also have a bottle of ED 15 I have not cracked open yet, and I might have to now to now and I will use the Swizzzle to compare and contrast the rums. Looks like it will be a good time tonight! |

I too decided to try out the Queen's Park Swizzle after seeing the posts here. Nice drink. Basically it's a Noa Noa (i suspect though that the Queen's Park came first). I described it for my wife as a spicy mojito, she enjoyed it too. We added 2 more dashes of Angostura to the surface after its already been swizzled. used up my demerara rum though on the first round. used Bacardi Select for second round, still very nice drink. The latest update of The Atomic Grog gave me an inspiration, so I made my own version of S.O.S. of Mai-Kai. I have never been there, and probably never will since it's like 5000 miles away, so I have no idea if this is even close. But the result was an amazing drink and that's all that matters. I took Hayward's advice and dropped the pimento dram. I also upped the amount of juices just a little bit, and dropped a bit the rums too, seeing how it's in the mild-section. The result was a really tasty drink, and even though there's a bit less rum, it still shines through quite nicely. So here's what I did: 3/4oz martinique rum Shaked it up real good with a load of ice and poured into an old fashioned glass. Drinking it right now and it's veeery good. |

Decided to put my signed Book of Tiki 10th Anniversary mug and recently-scored Miehana mug to good use this afternoon. The Miehana cocktail was okay, but a bit too sweet and unbalanced for my tastes. All I could taste was the lime juice and coconut rum. The Tiki Reviver recipe, on the other hand, was outstanding. I was a bit wary of adding an entire ounce of homemade nutmeg syrup, but it was exactly right. I could taste every ingredient. Will be making more of these, for sure.

Hoo Boy.... I just finished half of a "Fogg Cutter" (as per the Tiki+ app and page 50 of "Remixed"). Damn! What a potent libation that was! Even half of one has given me quite a buzz...! I really liked it! The 1.5oz of sugar syrup made it quite sweet, but I'm a fan of anything with an almond taste, so the 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract the recipe called for is what really got my attention. Now to buy one of those Tiki Bob mugs to really get the full effect! |

Had my first ever demerrara dry float last night. I used El Dorado 8 year old since I'm still in search of Lemon Hart 80. I used Trader Vic's recipe and found the drink to be a little heavy on the maraschino but still very tasty. I made another and cut the Luxardo in half which to me made the drink even better. Cheers! |
