Mai Tai at Don's

Penang with absinthe.

Ickytiki - I haven't tried that recipe but I do follow the Mistake thread. I don't think the original has maple syrup but maybe? I didn't get that flavor but I will have to try it and see how well the flavors blend together. It is possible that I didn't notice it. :)

Navy grog a Don's.

Navy Grog at Billy's.

Damn, Luna you should be feeling pretty good about now!

The Duke of Luna is on fire
:)

This one is for u Luna

H

My first time making this.

Skin Diver new recipe (Remix)
3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 oz OJ
1 1/2 oz honey mix
1 1/2 oz gold Puerto Rican, I used Havana club 3
3/4 oz Demerara, I used Lemon Hart
1/2 oz heavy cream
2 dashes Angostura bitters
6 drops Vanilla extract
1 cup crushed ice.
I liked this drink a lot. it was a little sweet at first I added a little more lemon juice and it was perfect. It looked very refreshing and tasted good. Next time I will mix 1 oz honey mix instead of 1 1/2.

JAVA ZOMBIE

3 oz double strength black cuban coffee;
1.5 oz Lemon Hart 151, 1 oz Kohala Bay, 1 oz dominican gold rum;
1/2 oz each of orange juice, grapefruit juice, passionfruit juice, lime juice, rich cinnamon syrup, and raw agave nectar;
2 dash Angostura, 2 dash Herbsaint;

blend with 1.5 oz ice, serve in a guinness pint glass...

London Sour - I haven't thought much of the orange juice / lemon combos, this is surprisingly good!

Had a Tortuga (Trader Vic, 1948) for the first time yesterday. I really liked it although I found the full ounce of Italian vermouth to be a tad too prominent.

I have been experimenting with Navy Grogs for a while using the cheap stuff to the expensive (e.g. Bacardi Gold / Appletons Special to Appleton 12 / El Dorado 12).

My newest combo is Bacardi 8, Appleton 8 & El Dorado 8 - perhaps the best yet :) Its got enough kick & its still smooth!

Great visit

Time for a little Koloa dark

With this one on the turntable

Sounds like a great time.

I should know better.

Drinking at the lounge of an old Cantonese restaurant that has a full page of "Exotic Island Drinks" on their menu. Pearl Divers, Scorpions, Navy Grogs and the works. Just had probably the worst Suffering Bastard and Mai Tai I have ever had, but I know the poor bartender is just serving the drinks he's been taught to serve.

Still. . . I watched Southern Comfort and mixto Tequila go into the "Suffering Bastard," and there is a distinct Windex flavor in the Mai Tai that I just can't see too many people being very fond of.

Oh well, at least their food is good.

Yeah, unfortunately, in many places its all about capitalizing on the name of the drink instead of the actual flavor. What (I think) those places don't realize is that serving quality drinks may often be accompanied by selling MORE drinks. In other words, serving better drinks yields higher profit due to higher volume sold despite higher ingredient costs. But I could be wrong. Maybe the profit margins are so darn big on the crappy drinks that it wouldn't matter if you sold two or three excellent drinks instead of one crappy drink.

Has anyone here operated a bar or restaurant or done the books (or financial analysis) on this sort of stuff?

I know, I know, probably wrong thread to ask this. And that means - TIME FOR A DRINK! :)

DarkNstormy with Kohala Bay...

Mentiritas for me and my sinorita...

Chilly night!

no ice, no problem. time for Ti Pawwwnch...

Suffering Bastard. What did I do last night???

...finally got a suffering bastard mug. The lead lends a good flavor to the drink. More authentic.
