Pussers 15 year neat.

I enjoy Pussers blue label in my version of grog (with honey mix, lime & bitters).

I came across a miniature of the 15 year & had to crack it open despite my cold - great stuff!

Enjoying a Tar Pit...

3/4 oz Zacapa 23 rum
3/4 oz Gosling's Black Seal rum
3/4 oz Fernet Branca
3/4 oz lime juice
3/8 oz falernum
3/8 oz orgeat

Shake with ice, strain over fresh ice, mint + lime wedge garnish.

Last December I brought a litre bottle of Ron Zacapa 23 from duty free in Birmingham UK on a whim based on its reputation & its much reduced price (£39 ~ about 44% off normal UK retail price).

IMO a great rum - nice & soft with a little spice, dark & rich flavours. Other rums were judged my it, I alternately indulged myself or hoarded it from myself. I shared it with anyone who was interested & a few who weren't...

I tried new things, forgot how good it was, returned to it like an old friend & enjoyed it's company... Other sipping rums came & went, some came close & I enjoyed their differences but Ron Zacapa 23 stood head & shoulders above them... literally, it was a litre bottle...

The bottle has been dwindling & right now Im finishing off the last glass...

BUT... I know someone who will pick me up another litre at the same price next weekend :)

The king is dead... long live the king! :)

Zacapa, Zaya, Ron Atlantico. . . Too much on the sweet side to be my first choice as daily sippers, but definitely a nice ocassional treat when you want to change things up a bit.

Was at the store when I saw something that I
thought would make a great drink vessel....

But it's so big
I just had to make it a double :)

Worked great......

Very Nice!

Last night we went out for Mexican and Margaritas and live Mariachi music and carried the tequila theme back home with us. Had a very nice Pinky Gonzalez and a couple of Palomas made with Corralejo Reposado which I quite like.

what the-- it's Octoberfest y'all.!

--had the best wurst (heh), kraut, red cabbage, potato salad, and on my fourth HofBrau Munchen Oktoberfest lager... its got Euro-skunk!

:D

With all the fall foods and drinks out there now, the smell of my wife's Starbucks drink w/cinnamon and nutmeg had me craving a Painkiller. And so, http://instagram.com/p/eixwD_Fn4O/

Vieux Carre. Rum-free, decidedly non-Tiki. And delicious.

Laissez les bons temps rouler.!

try the Cocktail a la Louisiane for a similar riff.

Yep, that cocktail is the other reason my bottle of Benedictine is nearing it's end.

Remixed night tonight. . .

Aku Aku Zombie, Tiki Ti Puka Punch, and a Steve Crane Luau Rum Barrel.

The drinks are going down easy tonight. Wishing tomorrow wasn't a work day.

Tomorrow ain't a work day for me either :) I'm going tiki hunting in the morning & carving in the afternoon!

A few drinks to get me in the mood:

Drink no 1: Hemmingway Diaquiri.

I prefer it blended, it's pink because I add a little grenadine for a fruity touch ~ try it! I used agricole 'To Have & Have Not' style after reading it on this thread - definitely try the sub if you like agricole.

Drink no 2: Navy Grog.

To use up 'surplus to requirements' rum, I used 2 Cockspur / 1 Kracken / 0.5 Pussers. Cockspur is a good rum IMO (readily & cheaply available), Kracken isn't good - I added the Pussers to 'save' the drink as it was too light... it didn't really! I should have stuck to the jamacian/demerara/puerto rican combo...

Drink no 3: Old Fashioned with Knob Creek.

Not tiki but oh well... I make Old Fashioneds with various whiskey & bitters. This is my first try with Knob Creek, pretty good :)

A beer night...

AdOrAdam, Just the way I prefer my Old Fashioned's with Nob Creek & Regan's Orange bitters
very tasty.

My current favorite Old Fashioned is with Four Roses Small Batch and good old Ango.

Tonight it is Bahias for thr Missus and Reverb Crashes for me.

I like the look of some of those beers - where do you get them in the UK Pikeys Dog? :)

I do like an Old Fashioned! Amongst all my bourbon / rye / bitters I've got 3 combos that work well IMO:

Pikesville Rye with Angostura & muddled orange
Woodford Reserve with Peychauds & Regans
Wild Turkey 101 with Fee Bros Aztec

I saw you had a Vieux Carre earlier in the week Sunny&Rummy - I've tried a few times but I think I'm just not a red vermouth man or it's past it's best - I won't splash out on an expensive bottle because I use so little & can't seem to find half bottles!

If you've got Benedictine & Brandy. I recommend a B&B - nice & easy!

Definitely worthy drinks :)

Good, fresh vernouth makes all the difference. I typically stock Noily Pratt, but Dolin is great and Cinzano works as well. If you don't think you are much of a red vermouth fan the Vieux Carre is one of the drinks that I think can make a convert of you. The others are a good honest Rye Manhattan and a Negroni which I think is may be the most perfect three ingredient cocktail ever.

eta: and if you keep your vermouth in the fridge it will keep well for several months.

I second the Dolin's!

Trader Vics Beverly Hills Mai Tai.

It seems like no LA TV locations can/will make the original 1944 recipe. I was at LA Live last night. Ordered a top shelf 1944 but it was way too sweet. Had a Dr Funk after that that I didn't like too much either. BH location seems to make better drinks. They use a Mai Tai recipe from 1950 and it is pretty good.

Navy Grog same place. Good and I like the rock candy. Strong but a bit sweet.

Old fashioned at Coles. Great drink!

Jet Pilot, Luau version.

Yes! was just there a couple of weeks ago, hope you are having one of their French Dips too!

Pastrami dip sandwich. All the way!

rum manhattan, w/Appleton Estate Reserve. excellent...

Knob Creek old-fashioned, thanks to the inspiration from our cousin across the pond.

(AA- have you tried Makers Mark?)

Dining in palm springs (Italian) The waiter told me that the spumoni had “layers" of rum . How could I not have some? Some fool in front of the adjacent eatery started playing a bagpipe interrupting a 50’s song by ol blue eyes.I was annoyed but after a bit I recognized the song the airbag squeezer was playing. Aloha Oe. Wow ! We went back to the Riviera and now I’m drinking a well crafted Mai Tai. I never leave home without my M T kit.
Cheers

Not right now but saturday evening I had an Hawaiian Eye, an Aku-Aku Gold Cup, a South Seas Sleeper, and a Pinky Gonzales...

Pinky Gonzales - Too much of this and then too much of that - The container tells the story.

Martinez with Ransom Old Tom gin. A much more intense and untamed botanical hit than Hayman's, the Ransom is a very intereresting interpretation of the historic Old Tom style.

hurricane. well made, it's a perfect blend of tartness and burning...

What's the rum choice in tonight's Hurricane, Porpoise?

Now having a Captain's Blood with El Dorado 12. Very nice, but so far I think the best rum I have tried in this one is Matusalem Gran Reserva 15.

Umi- MT kit = that's awesome

Watching the AL Wildcard game and enjoying a couple Planters Punch variations tonight, leading up to a Remsberg Planter and then to an Atomic Grog Mai-Kai 151 Swizzle tribute. The working theory is if I keep drinking the Rays will keep winning.

I like your theory S&R-- repeat this Friday...!

Yeoman's Grog. tasty

Zombie (simplified) ala Beachbum Berry. Great way to get rid of my cinnamon syrup and does a pretty good job faking the taste of a full zombie.

Picked up a new bottle of Lemon Hart 151 today. Celebrated with a Cobra's Fang and a Puka Punch. Taking a day off tomorrow, and taking full advantage of that tonight.

S

Beachbum's Own. It's been a loooong time since i last made this drink, and it really blew me away when i first started drinking tropical drinks, but it doesn't taste as good as i remember it to be. Could be because i had to substitute the rums. Or maybe because my palate has changed. Still Ok though.
