Curious as well. Someone described it as a cross between Smith & Cross and Rum Fire which has me excited. Unfortunately no sightings of this in Austin yet.

I'd say the Smith and Cross-Rum Fire hybrid description is a smidge closer to the mark than Hamilton, though it is a bit smoother and more rounded than any of those, probably owing to its age. Per the bottler's notes it's a blend of Worthy Park and Hampden distillates, and that's definitely evident in the aroma. Very fruity, hogo-y and unmistakably Hampden-y but with more oak, smoke, and leather, and it can be almost tangy at times, which I chalk up to the sherry cask finish. When you actually taste it it goes down pretty smooth, and if you've had Worthy Park's Rum Bar Gold you'll be in familiar territory; caramel and cream, but on the dry side. It lingers on the palette for a while and if you take a breath right after swallowing you get hit with what almost reminds me of vanilla ice cream.

I haven't mixed anything with it yet, will report results when I do.

My usual go-to for straight-up Daiquiris: 2 oz rum, 3/4 oz lime, 2 tsp granulated organic sugar.

It's almost a dead heat. I give Plantation a slight edge, but that might just be due to my familiarity with it. These are easily the two best multi-island, blended white rums. Havana Club is the only other rum I've had that makes a better Daiquri. Also a fan of El Dorado 3, which is sort of a middle ground between the two styles.

Banks also edged out another 86-proof rum, Cana Brava (which I rate just below the above group along with the 89-proof Bacardi Heritage/1909). ...

Yesterday was the anniversary of the Kon Tiki's first sighting of land, so we celebrated with pupus and a scorpion.

Nice! I want to consume all of the things.

Very nice Pat! That looks amazing.

In honor of Black Tot Day, I broke out all the Navy rums ...

It was a tough choice, but I went with the two newest in the arsenal and made a traditional Grog (Smuggler's Cove recipe) ...

Concluding with a bang, I made a Gunpowder Grog in a Hukilau 2013 mug by Tiki Diablo ...

Gunpowder Grog
(Justin Wojslaw, The Diller Room, Seattle)

1.5 oz lime juice
3/4 oz white grapefruit juice
3/4 oz cinnamon syrup
1/2 oz allspice liqueur
1/2 oz maraschino liqueur
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 oz Pusser's Gunpowder Proof Rum

Shake with ice cubes (or blend with crushed ice) and pour into your favorite mug. Top with a splash of club soda and more ice if necessary.

The Below Decks Agricole Rhum Punch!

Hi PalmTreePat - what are the peppers on your pupu platter? They look really interesting - (it surely can't be chocolate frosting, which is what it looks like on top?)

They're rumaki'd peppers, based on the description of a menu item at Latitude 29. Split jalapenos stuffed with a few slices of water chestnut and wrapped in bacon. I roasted them from a cold start until the bacon was just about fully crisped, then glazed them with a bit of sweetened light soy sauce. The chocolate frosting-looking garnish is a piping of chicken liver mousse.

Love the way you celebrated Black Tot day HH. I should have thought of that! Wish I was there to taste. Thanks for the recipe.

Nui Nui, I recently received BG Reynold's version of Don's Mix and Don's Spices so I'm trying the recipes which use those.

Wayfare, I got this somewhere on dis site. I have not tried it.

Don’s Mix

INGREDIENTS
3 cinnamon sticks
1 cup sugar, preferably unrefined
1 cup water
2 cups fresh juice from 3-4 grapefruits
DIRECTIONS
1Put cinnamon sticks in a zip lock bag and bash a few times with a rolling pin. Combine broken cinnamon sticks, sugar, and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Let simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes. Strain cinnamon syrup into a mason jar with a mesh strainer. Let cool.
2Add grapefruit juice to cinnamon mixture and shake. Mixture can be stored, sealed, in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, though it's tastiest when fresh.

Have a great time.

That's alright, unless you took home all the Mai Tai glasses so I could't get one....

Whatcha doin' Wednesday? I'll be in LA at Tiki-Ti when it opens, and probably at Oceanic Arts beforehand for Swanky's book signing....

Cuba Libre Ceylon ~ new Pepsi Fire (with cinnamon), lime, and Zafra 30 year Rum

Just kidding!!! If I spent $185 on a bottle of rum I wouldn't waste it in Pepsi  There's no rum in that glass, Pepsi Fire is interesting but I'm glad I just bought a bottle and not a case

Rum Barrel, Three Dots and a Dash, Port Au Prince, and Demerara Rum Float from Steven at Smugglers Cove's lower bar.

Little Doctor Bird planter's punch to chase away the Monday blahs. This stuff really blooms in a mixed drink. To taste it you might think it was made with blackberry or bannana liqueurs even though all that's in there besides the rum is lime, sugar, and black tea.

All Gin tonight. Last Word followed by a Saturn. Couple years back I did not care for Gin.
Cheers
