On our way into Sonoma for Thanksgiving, we made a little detour to Trader Vic's Emeryville. I love that place.

creole bitters?! what's in those? would have to be cayenne, thyme, garlic, onion powder, file, and bay leaf, wouldnt it? maybe some powdered tomato...

Dose menehune drinks or mai tai’s?
T V’s., Forbidden Island and Sandra Dee are three must see’s when in the Bay area.
I know what you paid for the drink’s but how much did you get the tiki’s for?
Have a safe drive home!

So far just the taste of my own blood for the "Black Friday" sales!
should of worn face protection, can't wait for some "Pain Killers" back at the lounge afterwards!

Black Friday calls for Zombie!!

Aku Aku version for me: still has all the flavor, bite & feel, but you can have more than two!

Mai tai.

Yellowtail
(Don't buy yellowtail wine. They sued my local brewery so they can't call their beer yellowtail even though their brewery is Ballast Point and their beers are named after fish.)

we have a Ballast Point neighborhood in Tampa too. wonder which is older.

J

Mai Tai for my mermaid. ED 5, Plantation 5, Clement Creole Shrubb, Orgeat, demerera SS, fresh lime and spanked mint. Float a splash of LH151.

O

Chief Lapu Lapus for my wife (Appleton VX & Cruzan Aged-Clear, 1/2 oz LH 151 added) and Aku-Aku Zombies for me (Appleton VX, Cruzan Aged, & LH 151).

All and all a nice Saturday....

Ballast Point is a brewery here but I don't know if it is a place too. I have not heard of it here but it must be named after something.

They actually make rum too. They have a couple tiki mugs. Good company.

Aloha...

First I had a Jet Pilot. I don't really get it. This used to be one of my favorite drinks when I first got into tiki. But now, I honestly wish I had made something else. It was ok, but could've been much better.

Now I'm having a Montego Bay and it's so much better. It's simple, but really refreshing. Sour at the beginning, but a really balanced aftertaste.

Yuck.........

Ballast Point is a tiny peninsula that juts out from point Loma into the entrance to San Diego bay. The Early spanish skippers use to Load stones onto their ships to serve as ballast for the return trip home. Was a whaling station before the Pt. Loma lighthouse was built there. No, I was not around then. I just learned about the “Point” this afternoon while visiting the former Naval Training Station (now called Liberty Station) and really quite worth a visit.

a Hurricane, in my annual tribute to the End of Hurricane Season and in a celebration of thankfulness that no hurricane hit my Tampa Bay region this year.

Cool, thanks for the info nui 'umi 'umi! I am headed to Liberty Station tonight for dinner at Stone brewery.

Dagg, didn't realize you made the photo until you said something. I didn't look at it too closely. Fun visit!

Cigar City's Invasion Pale Ale, in the spirit of Gasparilla, a perfect match for tonight's andouille/leftover turkey gumbo...

Put up the outside lights. Now we're decorating the tree and drinking “Red nosed zebra’s”
again.
Cheers

El Dorado 12 year again, in honor of Repeal Day!

For repeal day I am drinking hurricanes. It seemed appropriate as the drink was created as a result of repeal.

Storm

gentlemen, i like how you each think. Imma mix up an ED12 hurricane (not that shite blackwell version).

storm, do tell re the hurricane history. also, aint there any indigenous cocktails to Lee COunty??

Prohibition, Repeal, and Hurricanes in a nutshell: After Repeal American whiskey was almost non-existant as it had 't been legally produced in 13 years and new production was by definition very slow to ramp up. Caribbean rum was cheap and plentiful as it had never ceased production and spirits distributors were basically demanding that for every case of the rare whiskey a bar bought they also had to buy as much as 10-12 cases of rum. Pat O'Brien's solution for what to do with all that rum was the Hurricane. Jeff Berry essentially extends this to all Tiki drinks. After 200 years of neglect America learned to drink rum again (and bartenders learned how to mix with it) in the 1930s and 1940s because it was cheap and widely available. If there is one, this is Prohibition's silver lining.
