Last night I had my first Backscratcher in the Tambu Lounge at Disney's Polynesian Resort. I was surprised how well the float actually floated until the very end. It was a nice finish to a pleasant drink, although I personally seem to find it very difficult to really enjoy cocktails in a well-known and high-volume tourist spot. The bartenders are friendly and awesome -- they always try to do their very best with a somewhat limited selection of spirits and mixers which are provided to them by their employer. They make a very decent Mai Tai version with what ingredients they have available - I've had that a couple of times in the past when I visited. Everything is served with a smile, really a nice place to drink, especially at those times when its quieter and neighboring Ohana restaurant isn't slammed with diners. (Ooooh, wood-grilled delicacies!) |

AceExplorer, you may already have seen this on my blog, but for anyone else who's curious I have a pretty faithful Backscratcher recipe: I've had that drink on nearly every visit to the Polynesian, and I have a backscratcher collection to prove it! Olole maulua! |

Martinez Cocktail. No picture, it's my second and I don't feel like futzing with a camera. As good as these are, though, I can see how the dry martini became more popular. [ Edited by: PiPhiRho 2014-05-29 23:40 ] |

Hang10tiki, that's a beautiful piece! I'm unsure what to call it... Is it a mug, is it a vase, is a sculpture? Is it designed to be drank from / does it have glass sections on the inside? :) |

I was stuck at my parent's house this weekend and only brought over a few rums and mixers and this came up as something I could have made. Now I am glad I stuck with the Shrunken Skull, which was a hit with the family. |

You should invest in some phials to store part/all the components of cocktails. I use them to store barrel aged cocktails. They can be quite handy when you are at something awful, like a dry wedding. |

Am I the only one that had to go look up what a "phial" is? Wow, pretty cool idea. Google > "Phial" > Images Neato! Of course, there's also the famous "Beer Belly" and the "Wine Rack" as shown here: Even more neato!!! |

Sounds good --- btw, how many of y'all do the simple syrup/orgeat combo, as called for in the orig recipe for Mai Tais? I've never personally drank an orgeat that I felt needed to be sweetened, so it's a 1/2 oz for me. |
