RUMinade Nothing 'traditional' but will do in a pinch- I know, sounds like peasant juice compared to any number of REAL tiki drinks, but the Lacroix coconut really isn't bad as a coconut substitute- lighter, not so sweet. I feel like I can post this because your mug is too precious to throw at me... |

Killer! I am definitely going back to H&R when I am back in Vegas again. Had a couple of great cocktails (including the Corpse Reviver #2) and a steak. And bacon brussel sprouts... Cheers! [ Edited by: finky099 2016-06-17 09:53 ] |

What's the story on this? I've only seen the XO Reserve which for some reason always came across as a novelty for me (maybe because the person who gifted it to me was a clown). $39 a shot is insane. What does the bottle run? And what makes it that special? |

I decided to take the time and effort to make an original Zombie ... usually I drink the Spievak mostly because it tastes good and I'm lazy! It's really amazing how the Spievak with lemon juice can approximate the original, at least on my palate :) Anyway used four different rums because my LH151 is stashed elsewhere: Coruba Dark, Don Q Gold Anejo, LH80, Hamilton 151 ... 1 oz ea ... Mighty tasty!

My $.02: Way over-priced, over-sweetened, artificial-tasting swill. All those sweet flavors mentioned above (intense blood orange, sweet apricot jam, brown sugar, pie crust, graham cracker) are overwhelming and cloying. It tastes more like candy than rum. It's been a while since I've had it because I learned my lesson the first two times, and my palate has developed since then, but even in my early rum drinking days (when I still liked Zaya), it was too sweet for me. For the price of one bottle of this, you can get 3-7 bottles of much better rum that isn't just a bunch of chemical flavoring. |

Over the last 4 nights or so I've been tinkering and refining a recipe inspired by Trader Sam's Krakatoa Punch. I'm dubbing it "Krakatoa Kula" and have aimed in keeping a similar flavor profile but reducing the overly sweet concoction to something a bit more drinkable. I'm pretty sick of the test process to be honest, but I think I've come close to a final result. I'll share when it's final. Major respect to mixologists who know wtf they're doing! |

Been drinking but not posting lately so here's a quick recap. Trying some new Mai tai rum variations tonight in anticipation of an upcoming party. Big Bamboo (recipe doubled) from a couple nights ago. Nice drink if you've got the white grapefruit. Bottled or red just doesn't cut through with this one. |
