Not tiki but at this time of year There's nuttin better then an irish coffee at the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco. Can't be there but I know how they make em. Only thing that I change is the Irish whiskey. They use Tullamore Dew. I like Finnegan's. Actually, I neva had an Irish whiskey I didn't like. I top the coffee off with muddled cream (fresh) as I was taught by one of the barkeeps there years ago. The only other difference is we like a little bit of fresh grated nutmeg (like in some tiki drinks)
Cheers

Zombie (the original) by Don the Beachcomber

3/4 oz lime juice
1/2 oz Don's mix (2 parts white grapefruit juice, I used fresh, lucky me, one part
cinnamon infused sugar.
1/2 oz falernum (Fee bros.)
1 1/2 oz gold Puerto Rican, I used Lemon Hart 80.
1 1/2 oz aged Jamaican, I used Caruba, love the flavor.
1 oz 151 Lemon Heart
Dash Angostura bitters
6 drops Pernod, was going to use the Pernod Absinthe but not experimental enough.
teaspoonful grenadine (Monin)
6 oz. crushed ice.

pretty good..

The recipe was found in the notebook of Beachcomber's waiter Dick Santiago, who had marked the recipe old.

Hiltiki, That Zombie recipe sounds good. Gonna try one or a couple as soon as I complete my latest project. Can't get to my tiki booze stash til I clean up some of the scraps and other residue from my latest efforts improving the Happy talk lounge. In your opinion is there a big difference in taste between Pernod (mainly anise seed) and Pernod absinthe (anise and fennel (wormwood)?

H

Well I just tasted both bottles, too early in the morning but who cares, and the Absinthe Pernod definitely had a stronger anise flavor. Next time a recipe calls for Pernod I will try the Absinthe Pernod.

Pernod is one of those ingredients where, to me, it's easy to use either "too much" or "just right" with no in-between. I'm always very cautious with Pernod and would be even more cautious with Pernod Absinthe.

I think the non-tiki Sazerac cocktail is a good example of where Pernod is simply magical if you carefully swirl/coat the inside of the glass with a thin layer of Pernod (and then dump any excess) before you add the rest of the ingredients to the glass.

Herbsaint man here.

Wife wanted a snicker doodle shot
Or 2

1/2 oz Baileys
1/2 oz Amaretto
1/2 oz Butterscotch Schnapps
Dash of cinnamon

dry Rob Roy, w/orange bitters and peychaud's bitters...

El Dorado 12 yr

Nebbiolo with a cheese pizza I made myself . . .

Just got home from Trader Sam's, Had one of their Mele Kalikimocha and a glass of longboard. My wife had a couple of red nosed zebra's.
The is a cold coffee drink and I was expecting a hot drink- it was Kalikimocha here in Kalikimocha (60 degrees) It was very tasty and if I didn't have to drive home.I would have had several. So soon as I could brew up a pot of hot coffee I whipped up a couple of Irish coffee's.
Cheers

My local Anheuser-Busch brewery makes Shocktop. On their 2-hour "beermaster's tour" they take you into the ingredient mixing room, and let me tell you, the Shocktop ingredients in their raw form have an amazing pleasant and very strong orange and cardamom aroma! It is a very interesting beer, and I also enjoy its taste. I think Shocktop is made to compete directly against Blue Moon. Both are good beers.

Both out of Beachbum Berry's Remixed

My wife CeCe and I just finished our Christmas tradition of preparing mucho tamales. They're on the stovetop now and will be ready to wolf down about 2 A M. Meanwhile, thanks to Arriano for the recipe, I fixed us a couple of "red nosed Zebra's" as served at Trader Sam's

My wife CeCe Makes an outstanding fruitcake-starts marinating the fruit in brandy and cream sherry right after Thanksgiving Day. Paired with my most excellent Irish coffee It is just wonderful.
We don't let Christmas get away easily around our house. Gonna hit Trader Sam's tomorrow night and hopefully have one or two of their "red nosed Zebra's".
Cheers all
