Mai Tai with Smith & Cross, very tasty.

Zombie Mid Century version

1 oz fresh lime juice (I picked fresh from the tree)
1 oz fresh lemon juice ( I picked fresh from my tree)
1 oz unsweetened Pineapple juice
1 oz passion fruit syrup ( I used Goya frozen pulp n Demerara sugar syrup)
1 oz light Puerto Rican ( I used Havana Club silver)
1 oz gold Puerto Rican ( I used smith & Cross)
1 oz Lemon Heart 151
tsp. Demerara sugar syrup
Dash Angostura bitters
My first time with this drink. I like it.

earlier i had a Mai Tai (rums= Pyrat and Barbancourt), and a cocktail I threw together comprised of 2 oz Barbancourt, 3 oz guava nectar, 1.5 oz pineapple juice, and 1.5 oz passionfruit cocktail. I swear it tastes somehow like a fresh mango.

the Spievak zombie, oui? i've seen it speculated that he copied this from the "hot zombie" recipe published in a Bacardi drink guide (a tasty drink in its own right)...

Sapphire Martini with huge blue cheese stuffed olives from Gelson's, O my..

Thanks to Hurricane Hayward for decoding the secret ingredient to "The Backscratcher" to wit: POG, also known as equal parts passion fruit juice, orange juice and guava juice. A nice fruity combination but as used in the backscratcher it yielded a far too sweet a drink for my palate.
However, I like that POG combination so I thought I'd mess about with it and here's what I cobbled together:

THE BACKBITER

1.5 oz of POG
1 oz fresh lime juice
.5 oz falernum (I used Fee Brothers)
,25 oz Cinnamon syrup (I used my extra rich home made)
1 dash Angostura bitters
1.5 oz of Cruzan Dark Rum (Now called 'Aged')
.5 oz Lemon Hart 151

I top-blended it with crushed ice and poured into a 12oz Collins glass adding ice to fill.
To my taste anyway, the Backbiter turned out to be pretty good.


I bet you feel more like you do now now than you did when you came in.

Got back from my final Trader Vic's excursion before heading back to the US and I made the most of it- Kava Bowl, Suffering Bastard, Moka Nui, Mai Tai and the white Cloud.

The home version of the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Resort. Coming soon to Disney World?

It's a somewhat mild version of the Painkiller, but you can jazz it up with a good rum. Disney paraphernalia sold separately.

Are there specific set nights when Mike Sr. Is behind the bar? On our one and only pilgrimage to the Ti we went on a Wednesday and Mike Sr. was at the door while Mike Jr. And Mark tended bar. Of course they made excellent drinks, but the fanboy in me wanted to see Mike Sr. Behind the bar as well. Really need to get back there.

I think Mike sr usually works. Especially when it is busy. I guess Fridays and Saturdays he is always behind the bar. Wednesday might be kind of slow.

Captain's Grog, Mai Tai, and a Donga Punch. This Saturday evening is off to a fine start.

that Tanduay only costs about six dollars, yet it's irreplaceable...

i'd never done the 151 swizzle properly before- the key is not just the flashblending, but then pouring it into an ice-filled glass.

which does lead me to wonder, is the 151 really necessary if throwing in so much ice to make it enjoyable? wouldnt the drink work just as well with less ice and an ordinary proof rum? and, isnt it just a daiquiri? arent they all?

Bought a bottle of Botran solera 1893 at Hi Times wine after the Chli cook-off this afternoon. Not much nose to it but I found it tasty. Kinda reminds me of appleton 21 although the Boltran is lighter and not near as rich and flavorful as the Appleton. Not a bad sipper for less than 25 bucks plus you get a pair of nice dbl old fashions with the bottle.
