Hey Kraken, tanks for posting the ingredients-sounds like a good beverage. I have had a bottle of Crystal head sitting around for a year or so that I have never opened.
I bought it cuz the bottle was so cool. /time to bust it open.

The Lei Low in Houston is having a Don The Beachcomber themed New Years party so figured I'd get a head start on the festivities by working my way though Arriano's "1950s Cocktail Recipes of Don the Beachcomber" book.

First up... Barbados Punch

Next we have... Barbados Swizzle

More to come...

If you're in or near Houston, here's the event details:

Long time no post, I've still been making a few & tonight I made:

Nui Nui, Hawaii Kai Treasure & home bar recipe

Sumatra Kula, Mai Kai Rum Barrel (half portion), Navy Grog

Old Fashioned & 1795 cocktail (Campari, Aperol, 2 vermouth, rye whiskey & Xocolatl bitters)

hic!

Breaking in my new Tiki Gardens mai tai glass I got for Christmas.

It's funny: for ages that was EXACTLY my go-to mai tai recipe (Appleton Estate Extra 12 year with El Dorado 12 year, as well as the Senior curacao) but I think using Smith & Cross with Appleton Estate, coupled with Pierre Ferrand curacao, permanently broke my tasting brain - now I don't enjoy that combo anywhere near as much. I've really come to love a tart, dry mai tai with the astringency of the Smith & Cross poking through.

It was 59% off tonight at The Mai-Kai's 59th anniversary party, so we enjoyed quite a few:

Zombie and Mai Tai

Black Magic

Mutiny

Martinique Milk Punch

Cobra Kiss and Special Planter's Punch

It's not too early to start making plans for the 60th: Dec. 28, 2016.

Voodoo Grog
1972 Trader Vic Bartenders guide

1 oz St James rum
1 oz Puerto Rican
2 oz trader Vic Navy Grog Mix
2 barspoon honey
1/2 oz passionfruit nectar
1 egg white

I have had this voodo Grog glass in my display case for years and I wanted to actually have a drink in it. I dont think this glass was ever used. It is in pristine shape, a real beauty. Anyways, I liked the drink even though it was sweet and had no citrus in it, reminded me of the Navy Grog I used to get at Trader Vic's Beverly Hills when it was still operational.

Wahine found her favorite beer today
They must have started shipping it out again
We got it all

Thought we do a couple Habanero-Tinis

Not worth the 0.50

Heh, Hang 10 - your picture actually inspired us to go check the store again tonight! Still none here yet, but fortunately we have plenty of other good beer options. I think they really kinda blew it by pulling it for a year.

So for tonight: Garage Marshmallow Stout it is.

Bam- these 2 in your honor

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

KK, 15 hours into 2016 and you’re off to a great start! I wuz just getting outta bed. Great pic-drinks look good too.
Happy New Year!

Digging all the craft beer pics in here! I'm somewhat new to tiki so I look forward to seeing more tiki drinks in here. Gonna have a blast making all these different drinks. Seems a bit overwhelming at first with all the different ingredients! One at a time though!

It’s cold in SoCal so I’m having Irish Coffee. I was at Hi-Times recently and instead of Finnegan’s I bought a bottle of " The Wild Geese, Irish Soldier’s and Heroe’s" Irish Whiskey. It is excellent imho. I researched the parent company a bit and interestingly they just released a rum collection which includes a Premium, a gold, and a spiced rum. Sorry, I am unable to provide pic’s- the graphic’s on the bottle are unlike any rum labels that I have ever seen-much too busy. I am anxious to give it a try based on my experience with their whiskey. No reviews online yet. Anyone try this rum yet?

Heard about the Saturn cocktail a few times and i actually have all the ingredients so i'm giving that a try. I love gin, even more than rum, but found it far to sweet for my taste, even though i cut back on the Monin passionfruit because i know how strong that is. Once i added more gin it made it much better.

Now you might laugh but i was actually able to buy some Fee's Falernum and some John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum locally and tried it with both. They are completely different animals but i much prefer the JDT Velvet than the Fee's, at least in this drink. The Fee's just adds even more sweetness which is not needed. But even using the JDT and cutting back on the Monin, i still felt it was too sweet and added more gin. THEN, it is a good drink.

Porp- nice. I found a bottle of that under the Xmas tree this year. :)

Swiz- sounds good Mr Gin. Have you had this? Great pepper flavor.

Little Chai Latte in my favorite coffee cup watchin "The show"

It's been a long time but i have had that before Jon, but for me, cucumber belongs in salad or my sandwiches, not in my drink.

Nice! I noticed the mini clothes-pin to hold the garnish. I haven't seen that before, interesting...
