Listening to an episode of Quiet Village and enjoying a Mai Tai (Myers Dark and Cruzan Gold; nothing special, but still tasty).

Hamo, I like the full flavors of Myers in a Mai Tai. I have used Cruzan and also Doorley’s (Bajan).as the second rum. Both Mai Tai’s are tasty.

Got my hands on some Louisiana rum so I made a dry float in the style of Arriano's DtB 1950s booklet.

Nice job Jon, very clever

Thanks David

As long as the birds don't poo in my bar :)

Speaking of Gin I fixed up a couple of Saturn Cocktails. Earlier I picked up a new ( to me) gin that was being featured at Hi-Times Wine Cellars. More of that under “latest rum purchase”

Hi Times Cellers in Costa Mesa (California) Has a Bottle of this stuff that I did not know existed. I thought that there was only one source for Chartreuse. At $150 per bottle it better be good. And I thought that the green bottle was a tad high although a true essential in my bar.

David- nice

Jon. I luv dem Bajan rums. Doorly’s is my favorite of all of dem. It’s my go-to amber in a tiki drink. I gotta try it as a sipper right now.

Oldfield's Quiet Village!

Been propping up the bar at Trader Vic's a LOT lately and last night I took my mate there for his first ever tiki experience. I think this was the third round: Fogcutter, Zombie, and a Maui Mai Tai.

The Cocktail Of The Month is the Honey Honi and it's delicious, on the sweet side but still light. The drink is built around the classic Bee's Knees cocktail combo of gin / lemon / honey and the Hendricks and the light rum are a good pairing. They've run out of the glasses as of a couple of days ago, unfortunately:

(Trader Vic's pic, obviously, cos mine was horrible)

I'm 99% sure I've figured out the recipe but would need to buy some TV's grenadine to be certain.

Not right now, but last Friday night when I was finally done with a week from hell and needed to treat myself.

p.s. - the only way to get a bottle of this for your home is to drink more than 500 rums at Smuggler's Cove.

Congratulations on the rum conquer at SC

Well
Interesting
I personally would not call it an IPA by flavor
It says IPA on the label, it should say mildest IPA ever
I'm guessing the POG cuts the hops flavor
Again very mild

Actually, chocolate infused (Cacao = Chocolate), which may be why you were disappointed if you were expecting coffee. I actually really love that rum, especially in a rum old fashioned, and have even made a Mai Tai variation with it. My non-rummy best friend almost drank a whole bottle of it when he visited for a few days last summer. I like that it's made with real cacao beans, rather than artificial flavoring. And although it has nothing to do with the quality of the rum, Bruno Mars is a partner in this company and I LUV him!!

Edit: chocolate not coffee. Not sure how I put that, I must've been thinking about the Kona coffee syrup

JT- don't get me wrong it was just what I expected.
Just a bit sweet for me by itself
Funny you say My-Tie because that's the reason I got it.

The Royal Hawaiian Choco-Tai

Attempted one last night,
I used a little too much pineapple juice and too much lemon juice.
The base flavor was there but it was not quite perfect.
Feel free to make suggestions on the amounts that you guys think might be correct
and or try it at home and let me know the portions you use.

Didn't bother making the foam, wanted to wait until the drink was close to the original.

Here's the drink picture from the menu and the real thing at the Royal Hawaiian

The Corner Door Pineapple Lamp!

What an interesting looking drink, Hang10!

That SelvaRey Cacao has been on $17 closeout at a local for some time now. Thought about getting it a couple of times but had NO idea what to use it in. The website has some really interesting looking cocktail recipes - I might just have to break down and experiment. A Hot Buttered Rum or Coffee Grog with this might be a nice change of pace.

Mine was much closer to a traditional Trader Vic's Mai Tai. I used:
1oz Denizen Merchant's Reserve
1oz SelvaRey Cacao
.75oz Giffard Orgeat
.75oz fresh lime juice
.5oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao

Just a straight up Mai Tai.

HopeChest- mine was 22.00. Grab some for sure
And cheers
JT- Kool, I'll give it a shot
