Trying the Hamilton Blonde in an equal parts planter's punch. This stuff tastes a lot darker than it looks.

Mai Tai and Menehune Juice for my sister and brother-in-law last night

I enjoyed the Menehune Juice more than the last time I made it. Used light Cruzan but I'd guess Plantation 3 Star would make it really tasty.

Jason Alexander's Mai Tai Planter's Punch

Just received my Mai-Kai Club card and vouchers, so I thought I'd celebrate by breaking in Tiki Diablo's 2018 Mai-Kai Barrel Mug and Grider Torch Swizzle ...

The drink is the classic Mai-Kai Barrel 'O Rum with a new dark Jamaican rum blend.

Come on, you can't just tease us like that! What bottles do I need to run out and buy a case of?

Good morning

Bay Breeze

Ironic that this is much better with anything other than Trader Vic’s spiced rum, but it’s still a good way to get rid of the bottle I bought in a momentary lapse of judgment.

Yesterday I made all of the moms in my family Zombies. I was the designated driver so I went without. Had one today and It was delish! . Remarkably easy to prepare.

Zombie (1950) by The Atomic Grog
1 ounce fresh lime juice

1 ounce fresh lemon juice

1 ounce unsweetened pineapple juice

1 ounce passion fruit syrup

1 ounce white Puerto Rican rum

1 ounce gold Puerto Rican rum
1 ounce 151-proof Demerara rum

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 dash Angostura bitters
Dissolve sugar in lemon and/or lime juice. Shake everything well with crushed ice and pour into a tall glass. Garnish with a mint sprig.
I have not restocked my bar yet so I used what I had-Wray and Sons silver, Pyrat, and Hamilton 151. Not sure that
I wanna try any of the many Zombie recipes out thete
Cheers

It really is!! Grider Co. was a vendor at the last Trader Vic's Hawaiian Bazaar and I was lucky enough to grab the very last one they had that day. So well made (as is all of their stuff). A little lemon extract and Bob's yer uncle.

Enjoying Hurricane No. 2 from Georgi Radev's brand new book, "Let's Get Tropical: More than 60 Cocktail Recipes from Caribbean Classics to Modern Tiki Drinks." It features many interesting interpretations of the classics ...

That was my blend of choice for many a year before I started experimenting with using two molasses-based rums together for a MT. Still like to whip it out every once in a while but for some reason I can't seem to keep Barbancourt around the house long enough to mix with it...

Dinner at Ohana Grille in Denver

I asked for my Mai Tai with Myers’s in place of Sailor Jerry’s

The Nightmarcher, with okolehao, was much better

We're headed to Denver in October to celebrate our anniversary, visit the missus' family, and see a concert - we'll have to try this place!

Navy grog at the Tonga Hut. Normally I mix my own drinks during the week, but after spending all day testing hot aspahlt in the glare of the hot sun, I decided I deserved to sit in a cool, dark place for a while and let someone else do the mixing.

Food was good, drinks were fine. We sat outside (because winter is finally over); it's right across from Sloan Lake, which is nice, but Sheridan Blvd is very busy with traffic, so it almost canceled out the good.

If you have the time (and don't mind me crashing your anniversary celebration), let me know and maybe I can come down and meet up at Adrift or Hidden Idol.

Absolutely! We'll have to hook up for a drink or seven for sure. We're seeing Stereolab at the Ogden Theatre so Hidden Idol was definitely on the itinerary, what with it being just a mile down the road. If my niece is still working at Illegal Pete's on the same block as Adrift then that is a definite as well - that's some serious sober-up factor there.

Opened to a random page in Remixed to find that I had all the ingredients to try a new drink: the Mara-Amu

Allspicy Daiquiri

Don't have any of Dale DeGroff's Pimento Bitters, so I subbed four dashes of "spiced bitters", which are 1:1 ratio of Angostura and pimento dram, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Thanks, Hurricane Howard!

Cobra’s Fang (Copycat Co recipe)

First drink with my first batch of homemade falernum. Still sporting a zested finger from all those limes but it’s delicious.

Okole maluna Hamo!

FYI, you can find more on the Mara Amu here:

Going through The Hukilau withdrawls? I recommend the hair of the dog ...

My educated guess on the recipe ...
1 oz Gunpowder
1 oz Appleton
1/4 oz cinnamon
1 oz pineapple
1/2 oz lime
1 dash Angostura

I thought it was a bit juicy and one-dimensional, so I added bitters and passion fruit syrup:
2 oz Real McCoy 5 (or any good aged Barbados rum)
3/4 oz passion fruit syrup
1/2 oz pineapple juice
1/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz lime juice
1 dash Angostura

I later heard from William Prestwood, general manager at Pagan Idol. He agreed that syrup is the way to go, then gave us some cool history:
"The name comes from the 1945 Tonga Room menu. 15ml lemon, 15ml lime, 30ml passionfruit syrup, 30ml pineapple, 60ml Real McCoy 5 (Distiller's proof if you can get it)."

Okole maluna!
