I made four Mai Tai’s and drank 2 and a couple of Longboards. Made me post this on the “lime shortage” thread
Cheers

Last night I had my first Backscratcher in the Tambu Lounge at Disney's Polynesian Resort. I was surprised how well the float actually floated until the very end. It was a nice finish to a pleasant drink, although I personally seem to find it very difficult to really enjoy cocktails in a well-known and high-volume tourist spot. The bartenders are friendly and awesome -- they always try to do their very best with a somewhat limited selection of spirits and mixers which are provided to them by their employer. They make a very decent Mai Tai version with what ingredients they have available - I've had that a couple of times in the past when I visited. Everything is served with a smile, really a nice place to drink, especially at those times when its quieter and neighboring Ohana restaurant isn't slammed with diners. (Ooooh, wood-grilled delicacies!)

AceExplorer, you may already have seen this on my blog, but for anyone else who's curious I have a pretty faithful Backscratcher recipe:

I've had that drink on nearly every visit to the Polynesian, and I have a backscratcher collection to prove it!

Olole maulua!

Yessir, thanks, I do remember seeing that. With so many other cocktails of interest, I have never gotten around to making or ordering a Backscratcher. Your web pages are a great resource -- the combination of recipes, photos, and backstories are amazingly helpful and fun.

Made "Good Head" based on all the info from Hurricane Howard, here.

Just scroll down till you find it.
It's a combination of several rums, fresh cucumber, apple juice, agave nectar, lime juice.
Interesting drink, I liked it, a little sweet, I don't like sweet drinks, next time I will put less agave nectar. also, not sure how thick I should cut the cucumber, it asked for 6 pieces... any ideas?

I can't help hitiki, sadly.
But, happily, am enjoying a Ray's Mistake right now!

A Mai Tai followed by a couple of beers.
Btw, the Barbados Special rum I used the other night surprised me -I have heard that it was tasty. it makes for a rather tasteless Mai Tai. I am partial to Bajan rums and I made tonights batch with Doorleys.
Cheers

Martinez Cocktail. No picture, it's my second and I don't feel like futzing with a camera.

As good as these are, though, I can see how the dry martini became more popular.

I had two CCB Jai Alai IPAs, then taught the bar-mistress how to make a Jungle Bird...

Soon...

Haha, my friend on Instagram took a pic of that same vase with the caption "Gecko sent me this vase by mistake. Now I have to send it to its rightful owner..."

Thank him for not keeping it
:)

Hang10tiki, that's a beautiful piece!

I'm unsure what to call it... Is it a mug, is it a vase, is a sculpture?

Is it designed to be drank from / does it have glass sections on the inside? :)

Drinking an "Octopus" outta Beachbum Berry Remixed. Excuse me while I find the "What's the worst tiki drink recipe you've found?" thread...

I was stuck at my parent's house this weekend and only brought over a few rums and mixers and this came up as something I could have made. Now I am glad I stuck with the Shrunken Skull, which was a hit with the family.

You should invest in some phials to store part/all the components of cocktails. I use them to store barrel aged cocktails.

They can be quite handy when you are at something awful, like a dry wedding.

Am I the only one that had to go look up what a "phial" is? Wow, pretty cool idea.

Neato!

Of course, there's also the famous "Beer Belly" and the "Wine Rack" as shown here:

Even more neato!!!

Finished with Sidewinder's Fang, Bum Barrel, and 151 Swizzle. I wasn't terribly pleased with my 151 swizzle, as though something were lacking or though it was a little watery.

Passionate Pyton at Trader Sam's.

an interesting IPA/belgian-tripel mash-up: Houblon Chouffe...

and now, a Jungle Bird.

no no- he's eliminating the "drinking" part, and converting entirely to booze IV drips plus the occasional tiki-style jello shot...

Easier than butt-chugging.

First time I’ve tried Painkillers at home. Onolicious!

Try some Kraken Rum in those and see what you think David.

For a friends party I made a batch of
Orange Peel infused Rich (double strength) Simple Syrup
bottled it up and smacked a label on it.

This is very tasty for many drinks, but it rocks an Old Fashioned or Mai Tai!

KD

Sounds good --- btw, how many of y'all do the simple syrup/orgeat combo, as called for in the orig recipe for Mai Tais? I've never personally drank an orgeat that I felt needed to be sweetened, so it's a 1/2 oz for me.

No time for drinking recently, it's been a hectic couple of days.

My partner & brand new baby girl are coming home from hospital tomorrow for the first time.

Celebratory cigar & a bourbon on the back porch :)

^^^^ Congrats on the new member of your family!

I had two nice mai tais at the faculty end-of-the-year party, today. :D

Congratulations, indeed!

Hail to the new Queen!

Congratulations to you and the Wahini Ad!

Drinking a Cruzan Blackstrap Corn 'N Oil to break in a fresh batch of homemade Falernum. Sublime.

Decided to make a Mai Tai with Grand Marnier, Appleton 12, and El Dorado 15 to celebrate my contractor finally finishing the first room in my new condo.

Congrats AdorAdam!
