Had a couple friends over. We started with a Fogg Cutter bowl (just doubled the Bali Hai at the Beach recipe and made it a communal drink), then whipped up some Puka Punches followed by Cobra's Kisses. All extremely tasty and super strong drinks. Everyone was satisfied and feeling great. Mission accomplished. Let's do it again tomorrow.

The Dos Maderas Rum caught my eye at the Tustin Grill ( use to be “Quinn’s”). Barkeep gave me a sip. Very good if you like a sweeter rum.

Brady's Yacht Club (Santa Cruz, CA) Oatmeal Cookies! (We grew up going to Santa Cruz every year in the Summer. My Mom & Dad let us walk to the Boardwalk (which you would never do today) while they ended up at Brady's (a local dive bar with an ironic name). I didn't even see the inside of it until I was in my late 20's. Now I go with my Dad and the rest of the family. It became the family tradition over 20 years ago to order "Oatmeal Cookies" at Brady's which were a "special" advertised at the bar way back then. It's not very good, but it's now a tradition that must continue!)

Which Dos Maderas was it? 5+3, or 5+5 (aka PX)? 5+3 has a lighter label, 5+5 has a dark label. I love the 5+5!

Took a trip to Colorado over the weekend. I got a chance to go to Adrift in Denver for the first time. I was lucky enough to meet Gabbahey & Slacks Ferret from TC. Very nice guys, I am hapy to have met them.

This is a Jungle Bird.

Here is a Cobra's Fang.

I had a couple bloody's in Boulder.

Got a Manhattan at the Bitter Bar in Boulder.

I forget the name of this drink, but it was a whiskey and ginger drink from The Kitchen in Denver.

Got a Central Slope Sour at Acorn. Also had a Pork Belly BLT with an egg added, the BEST meal I had in Colorado!!!

Went to a really cool speakeasy for the Golden Moon Distillery in Golden Colorado. They are only a tasting room, so they only serve their own liquors, but they have such a wide range of products that it really works well. No rum ( :( ) but they make their own Gin & Whiskey & rye as well as more obscure boozes like Absinthe, Creme de Violette and Curacao. If you are in the area, I strongly recommend it. Only a short drive from Denver and Boulder. Say hi to Erin for me.

This is a Voodoo Lady.

Cheers!

Oh yeah, our hotel bar was pretty nice too!

:) Love the Stranahans!

That's actually the house cocktail at Paul McGee's Lost Lake in Chicago. Great drink! Try it with Appleton 12-year or Hamilton Black Jamaican Pot Still rum.

here's a twist on the bourbon milk punch i came up with one night - this is wicked good!

Jamaican Milk Punch

1 1/2 Blackstrap Rum
1/2 oz Allspice Dram
1 oz simple syrup
1 dash vanilla
1 ounce whole milk
1/2 ounce heavy whipping cream
1 dash chocolate bitters

Cocktail:

add all ingredients to cocktail shaker with ice, shake, strain into glass with ice - top with grated nutmeg and cinnamon

if Allspice Dram not available, substitute for 1/2 oz Blackstrap rum, substitute gomme syrup for falernum, add dash of tiki bitters

I have to admit, Stiggins’ Fancy lives up to its hype and exceeded my expectations. It's spectacular in a classic Daiquiri, but then what? After much experimentation (note the rapidly declining bottle), I came up with a twist on the Daiquiri with a little bit of heat to spice things up ...

The name and recipe will be unveiled in the next few days in the next Week in Tiki blog post.
