Drink of the day will be Key Lime Aid...2 parts Parrot Bay Key Lime Rum..1 part Vanilla Liquor...1 part sweet and sour mix..It's lite , refreshing and doesn't make you feel bloated. The best part is you can relax have several and still not have slurred speech...till you run out of Rum.

Aloha TI

Maybe substitute some Mount Gay silver for Parrot Bay with that recipe next time and I think it will go to the next level for ya. Cheers!

In about 10 minutes I will have a batch of Pequod Punch from Intoxica. Just waiting for the tea to finish.

Parrot Bay is the only key lime flavored rum I've found...are there others...as key lime rum is the "Key" ingredient..

Just mixed me a little something that I haven't named, kinda been tryin to get the blend right for a while now...

3oz ginger beer (this one has Stewarts brand)
2oz Dole Pineapple juice from the can
1oz Monin coconut syrup
2oz Cruzan Single Barrel
1oz Rhum Barbancourt 8 year

Very tasty...

The Stewart's ginger beer gives it a nice "bite".

Next up will be a double Mai Tai (don't have to work tomarrow)

2oz Flor de Cana 7 year
1oz Cruzan Single Barrel
1oz Rhum Barbancourt 8 year
1oz HW Orange Curacao
1oz Fee Bros Orgeat
1oz Fresh Lime Juice

So far this is my favorite flavor of Mai Tai mixture...

I have been leaving out the simple syrup after reading here that the premade Orgeat is really just flavored syrup and I am bummed I forgetted to grab some mint when I stopped for limes.
Need to just get a plant I guess.

If you're going for the flavor of key lime in a drink the best route is to use fresh juice from actual key limes. The second best way (which pales in comparison) is to use Nellie & Joe's bottled key lime juice.

Sazerac.

TT

Beach Bum Scott-that sounds similar to what I've been mixing lately...But I've used cheaper rum-Cruzan Estate Dark and TV's dark rum. Also I used coconut milk. And a squeeze of Meyer/lime (my lime is next to a Meyer lemon so I get a really tasty cross!) I've been kicking around the idea of adding ginger liquour, but haven't made it back to the store to get some.

Right now I'm drinking the Mystery Gardenia from the Donn the Beachcomber book. Love that honey cream!

Japanese Vesper.

Ah... I slopped together a Mai Tai and it's not as good as it should be... still damn good, but you know what I mean. I squeezed a fresh lime... \I never scrimp there, and I used Sailor Jerry and Appleton's Estate V/X, that should be OK... I didn't measure very well and maybe should have used the Black Strap or maybe the Myer's...

2 Hangar 1 Spiced Pear Vodka
1 St. Germain
.5 homemade ginger syrup
2 Santa Cruz Pear Nectar (no HFCs)
.5 fresh lemon juice

Only water. I'm hungover from too many tiki drinks last night at Thatch to celebrate my birthday.

Happy Birthday Kupcake!
for the TDN on Fernet, i am drinking a Hot House Landing

Sippin' some El Dorado 12 Year as a prepare dinner at home... Martin Denny's playin' some music for me.

"Beachbum's Own" using El Dorado 12YO & a Virgin Island light.

Sippin' Mount Gay Extra Old.

I bought me a whole liter, and I don't really like it.
Too harsh for my taste.

"Sidewinders Fang" with Appleton VX and El Dorado 5YO & seltzer (from a siphon) instead of club soda.

Dark 'n Stormy with Gosling's Black Seal and Cock 'n Bull ginger beer.
Delicious.

St. Arnold's Spring Bock. My fave of the year!

Vic's style Mai-Tai with all Mt. Gay just to see how it is... lite, but good.

Earlier I made some weird abomination that turned out friggin' delicious and am now struggling with what to name it.
1oz Goslings Black Seal rum
1oz Appleton V/X rum
1oz Trader's Coconut rum
1oz apricot brandy
2oz fresh squeezed blood orange juice

Man, it was tasty.

Bought my first bottle of falernum today and am indulging in Rum Punch with Appletons V/X, falernum, lime juice, and bitters.
Pretty damn good... I can only imagine how much better this will be, though, with the Kaiser Penguin's homemade falernum recipe.
But... for now... I wanted quick and easy.
Still tasty.

It's Friday!
I'm home with my second Mai Tai. The first was delightful with Cruzan Black Strap Rum, this one has Appleton Estate V/X as the first, but instead of the Cruzan, I've used some Sailor Jerry's. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me! And soon, off to dinner... I'm not driving.

Shrunken Bum

1st time trying the recipe. mmmmmmm... good! :D

Good old Cuba Libra...

Mai Tai. With Saint James Extra Old and Coruba. SMOOOOOOOOTH. A good way to usher in warm weather here in Kazoo.

Mai Tai again. This one with El Dorado 15yr all the way. Some say it's a crime to mix with this one, if so I'm one happy criminal. Tikiyaki on the box making the mood.
9:34 ET Another Mai Tai. This one with Appleton Estates V/X and Maui Dark Rum. Very good!!

Mai tai. Second of the evening. Started out with a Mai Tai, then went with a double Donga Punch. Now back to Mai Tai.

The first was made with 2 oz. Appleton's Extra. Out of necessity, this one is 1 oz. Extra, 1 oz. St. James Extra Old. I prefer mai tais made from purely Jamaican rum. The Martinique adds a grassy, harsh flavor. It works well in spicy drinks (Donga Punch, 3 Dots), but I don't think it complements the flavors in a Mai Tai.

Made my first home-made syrups today (cinnamon, honey mix) and celebrated by making a more "technical" drink than I usually do. And... my God... just... friggin'... amazing. Obviously, I didn't have the exact ingredients, and screwed with it a little... but it still came out being a thing of beauty.
Taken (sorta) from Trader Tiki:

THE WISDOM OF PELE
1oz strong rum (calls for 151, all I've got is Sailor's at 92)
1oz dark rum (Goslings Black Seal)
1oz light rum (Cruzan)
1oz gold (aged) rum (Appleton V/X is the closest I've got right now)
3/4oz lime juice
3/4oz grapefruit juice
3/4oz falernum
1/2oz honey mix
1/2 cinnamon syrup
2 dashes of bitters

Damnnnn... I wish I had made a bucket of these.

[ Edited by: CucamongaChango 2009-03-22 22:01 ]

I'm sure someone has drink similar to this, but I just threw together
4oz. Sailor Jerry
1oz. grapefruit juice
1/2 oz. cinnamon syrup
1/2 oz. simple syrup

Not too bad... For now I'll call it Girl In Every Port.

I'm making a Test Pilot and a TV Mai Tai with Goslings Black Seal ontop. Hopefully my limes will produce more than 1/4 oz of juice per fruit this time.

Beachbum Berry's version of the Zombie with the following modifications:
Appleton Extra for the Meyers, El Dorado 151 for the Bacardi 151, and the addition of five drops of Pernod.

Goin' low key tonight.
Cuba Libre with Gosling's Black Seal and Pepsi Natural.
The Pepsi Natural is pretty good... but still not as good as a Mexican Coke.
I'll go back to those next time.

I'll have to try that Girl in Every Port. I've got a half a bottle of Sailor Jerry's and not really any recipes for it to go into. Used to drink the hell out of it, but once I started really getting into the cocktails, it's kinda just lingering back there behind the other bottles.
Silently waiting... knife in hand... sly grin on face.

I'm having a beer(VB-Victoria Bitter)at work with the boys before i go home.
Then i think i'll have a rum old-fashioned.

I've been making them with passionfruit syrup and orange bitters, instead of gomme and angostura.Best rum so far has been Bacardi 8.

nothing damn it,
I wish I was having a Zombie at Don the Beachcombers.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Now wouldn't that be nice?

I consoled myself with an Appleton's V/X Mai-Tai and a coupla Dark 'n Stormies.

Started a few hours ago: Two "Hundred Dollar Mai Tais" and then some Ron Diplomatico Exclusive Reserve straight up followed with an Ambien night cap. I'm fallling asleep as I key this in, It's a bit weird cause things start to get a bit jittery and two dimensional images start to show three. They may look sort of like they're pulsating or breathing or even sticking out of the page. The whole Ambien thing is strange, if you don't go lay down to sleep you start to go into a dream state while you are still awake. Sort of like turning into a sleep walking lucid dreaming kook looking for food or booze or sex or maybe a joyride in the car. No need to worry about me though, My wife strapped me to the bed, she got tired of all the shenanigans. Well at least I'll still get the sex part. Now I just have to get her over here. Oh great... she's asleep now, totally out... And now that I'm strapped down, I can't even reach her or anything other than this notebook computer. SHIT this sucks, shoutings no good, she is out stonecold. Oh well, another night wasted. Hey!Let me try to toss the notebook computer at her, maybe that will wake her. Here we go, one... two.... threee

H

Uhhm, excuse me, but this is Mrs. Hakalugi. I just got beaned with a computer (I'll be okay, just a bruise) I then read Mr. Hakalugi's post leading up to it, I submitted his post as I don't think he had the foresight to realize what exactly he was doing AND so you could see what I've been having to deal with. Nevertheless, If any of you Tiki people ever see my husband acting this way, please tell him to stop and to go home where he can lay down in a bed and hopefully fall asleep properly! Lord knows he won't listen to me. I'm at my wits end. This sleep/awake shit is driving me nuts. Sorry for my rant but any help would be appreciated. Now please excuse me and go back to your tiki talk and photo association whatever.

Thanks.

-Mrs. H

Reply to Mrs. H:
Dear, when your husband is drinking some quality drinks, by all means join him. Why should he have all the fun?

I'm having a glass of grapefruit juice with club soda... I have time to slim down before Tiki Oasis so I can be ready to partake then!!

as usual, JUST another:
crushed ice
fresh picked organic mint
1&1/2 oz.fresh just picked & squeezed organic lime juice
1/4 oz. homemade organic simple syrup
1/2 oz. homemade organic orgeat syrup
1/2 oz. Marie Brizard orange curacao
1 & 1/2 oz. Appelton V/X
1 oz. Clement VSOP
($56.78?) Mai Tai... :drink: :)

Damn... that sounds good!

Right this sec I'm drinking some effed up abomination that was the remains of the Tiki orgy that's been occurring in the kitchen for the last few hours.

I dunno what it is, but it's:
1oz Appleton's V/X
1oz Gosling's Black Seal
1oz pineapple juice
1oz blood orange juice
1/2oz falernum
coupla shakes of bitters
dropped a bourbon marinated cherry in it for "good luck"

Maybe I'll just call it a "Friggin' Mess".

Earlier, the wife and I had a coupla Wisdoms of Pele, and some Rum Swizzles with blood orange instead of lime. Really pretty good.

But right now... it's a "Friggin' Mess".

Last night . . . MrBaliHai's "Shark Attack" substituting El Dorado 12YO for the Lemon Hart 80 proof - adds depth IMHO, and Lemon Hart isn't available here in FloriDUH.

I'm drinking a very nasty mai tai right now....
For some reason I was in the market and saw the Trader Vic's mai tai mix bottle and I think the label got me. This stuff is terrible... oh well live and learn..

aloha

Last night . . . "The Shrunken Bum" with Appleton Extra and El Dorado 151 plus chinese five spice powder instead of powdered cinnamon. Have made it exactly as written before . . . not remarkable . . . just "OK" . . . strong, but OK.

UT

The first of the evening. Blackbeard's Ghost with my first batch of homemade falernum.....tasty!!
