Navy Grog
Grog Log recipe

Skeeter

" ...I think my liver might need a vacation."

Suffering Bastards (bourbon, gin, lime, ginger beer)

I think my liver might need a lawyer.

Just finished a "Lovely Lovely" from Sippin Safari not bad, but a little to lemony and don't dig the 151 kick so now I'm changin it up alittle.

2 oz Appleton Special
1 oz Lime juice
1/2 oz Lemon juice
1/2 oz Looza Passion Nectar
1/2 oz HW Orange Curaco
2 tablespoons brown sugar

The bit of passion mellows the tartness.

Wow 24 hours go by and I'm the next post, don't know how to feel about that!!!!

Well I just mixed up a Mai Tai (Trader Vic, Sippin Safari) but wondered how it would taste subin' Banana Liqueur for the Orgeat.

Not to bad but I would use 1oz Banana next time instead of the 1/2oz.

Ok now 3 days in a row??? Did everyone other than me quit drinking???

I just finished my first batch of Falernum thanks KP and was looking forward to tryin the Aku Aku Gold Cup Sippin Safari pg104 when I realized I didn't have any lemon juice soooo....

along the same lines

1/2 oz Coruba
1 oz Appleton Special
3/4 oz Lime juice
1/2 Falernum
1 tsp brown sugar

very yummy now to name it...

S

I'm still goin' with the Navy Grog.
Greatest drink ever...

nah. It's just that by the time I finally set my Cuba Libre nightcaps down to post here -- my keyboard isn't able to type coherently?! :D

Too many strawberry mojitos... ugh...

The House drink for my new Basement Bar.(in progress)

1oz Passion Fruit nectar (Looza)
1/2oz Lime Juice

1/2oz Orange Curaco
1/4oz brown sugar (use your shot glass)

Muddle brown sugar with Lime Juice and Falernum to dissolve brown sugar in the shot glass.

Mai Tai - mix of recipes #3 and #4 from the Kaiser Penguin recipe smackdown. Still not sure how I feel about the grenadine, and I have no falernum, but it's still yummy.

#3 Gary Regan (Mai Tai #2)

1oz dark rum
1oz light rum (I used Bacardi - PA’s light rum offerings are poor unless you place a special order)
1/2oz triple sec (I used Marie Brizard triple sec)
3/4oz orgeat syrup
1oz lime juice
1 sprig mint, for garnish

#4 Dr. Cocktail

1oz dark rum
1oz light rum
1/2oz orange curacao
1/2oz orgeat syrup
1 1/2oz lime juice
1/4oz grenadine (homemade)
1/4oz falernum (Fee Brother’s)
1 sprig mint, for garnish

I got falernum at Kappy's in Sudbury.

Bahama Mama... 2oz Tropicana Orange/pineapple juice , splash of Bols Triple Sec , 2oz BRINLEY"S GOLD COCONUT RUM ( only Brinley's accept no substitute ) , splash of Roses grenadine . Shake , Shake , Shake....ummmmmm soooo good.

RR

FROZEN BANANAS FOSTER for six from ADAM SEGER

10 oz bourbon 4 bananas 4 oz. orange juice 1 cup caramel sauce 1 pint vanilla ice cream

3 cups ice all blended in a blender grated nutmeg for garnish

B

Hey tropicaldiver -

Bahama mama reminds me of red lobster for some reason. The restaurant that is... But over to my drink for the day would have to be the Hanky Panky. Good ole fashioned classic london cocktail.

Ada Coleman became the second person to hold the post of Head Bartender at the Savoy in 1898. She later created the cocktail for English comedy actor Charles Hawtrey, who asked her for "something with a bit of punch in it". The first time he tasted the results of her hours of experimentation, he replied, "By jove! That's the real hanky panky!" And the name stuck!

2 PARTS Beefeater London Dry Gin

2 PARTS Italian vermouth

2 DASH Fernet Branca

SHAKE All ingredients over ice

STRAIN Into a chilled cocktail glass

SQUEEZE A freshly cut orange peel on top

Video and instructions from the beefeater distiller are up for you guys too!

Last night:

"MOLOKAI MIKE" from Trader Vic's Bartender's Guide (Revised,1972)

I substituted a Virgin Island light for the Puerto Rican light and Clement VSOP for the Rhum Negrita.

I served these in "Hukilau" collins glasses and they were enjoyed by all!

MN

A double Oahu Gin Sling in a Super Big Gulp cup down in the garage cutting & burning bamboo.

A (third) gin and tonic. Alas, all my rums (20+) are on the boat, at the marina,... but I'm not.

S

Mojito

Guiness

A "Ooku' Aku" that I came up with and next will be a Dukes Pearl.
Heres to hoping the varnish I'm applying goes on smooth...

I just got home from the Richard Cheese concert where I drank too many matinis. SO now I am drinking a big bottle of water to hopefully NOT be too hungover at work tomorrow.

Blackbeard's Ghost & Me thinks I'll 'ave another!! AHRRRRRRG...!!!

Last night:

I was feeling tired of my usual drinks so I attempted this Planter's Punch recipe, from "The Essential Cocktail" by Dale DeGroff. It's not a bad book.

3/4 oz Myers
3/4 oz light rum
3/4 oz curacao
1/2 oz falernum (didn't have on hand boo - trying to fix this today)
1 oz simple syrup (seems heavy to me)
3/4 oz pineapple juice
3/4 oz fresh oj
1/2 oz lime juice
dash of grenadine
dash of Angostura bitters

It was ok. I doubled the recipe and didn't want to fool with decimal points so it ended up being rather rummy. Probably will go back to the fog cutter this week.

Now I'm drinking a rank iced coffee.

I was eating a ham and swiss on rye and thought..."Hmm, I should wash this sammich down with a viking fogcutter with extra Aqavit."

A "real" daiquiri. There's just nothing better on a hot day!

I'll drink to that! My personal favorite is a Martinique Daiquiri. :)

Last Night:

From Trader Vic's Book of Food and Drink (1946) his version of Don The Beachcomber's (to whom Vic gives due credit). . .
"ZOMBIE"

Used Meyer's for the Jamaican, substituted a Virgin Island rum for the Puerto Rican and El Dorado 151 for the Lemon Hart -otherwise
everything else was the same. Strong & tasty!
NOTE: Easy to advance prep for group service adding the dash of Pernod on a per-drink basis.

I'm currently enjoying one of my favorite summertime tipples, a simple French-style Pernod on the rocks. The cool, anise flavor really cuts through the heat and humidity!

Fill a double Old-Fashioned glass with ice cubes, then add 1-2 oz. Pernod (depending on how much you like the stuff), then add 5 oz. Water

My all-time favorite summertime drink is a Ron y Limón made with 7-year Havana Club and Bacardi Limón, but I ain't got no HC...:(

It's good made with Absinthe too, but I can't drink more than an ounce of it.

Point Break Porter from Breakwater Brewing Co.

Last night:
Potted Parrot w/10 Cane
Mai Tai w/Appleton V/X & Lemon Hart Demerara 80 (effin' DELICIOUS combo)
Jasper's Jamaican

It was my first home-made Parrot, and damn was it good. I didn't have any "white rum" so I went with the 10 Cane. It made a smooth and refreshing citrus 'n sugarcane waterfall in my mouth.

About to head to Emeryville to pre-show for Wilco at Vic's.

R

Mixed up a nice Montego Bay this evening.

a CocoLocoMoco.

the recipe varies depending on the answers to certain questions
http://www.theparrottalksinchocolate.com/2009/05/mix-your-own-coco-loco-moco.html

BUT, the basics are always the same:
Freshly opened coconut, with the water still intact
Lime
Vodka (of course rum can be used)
stirred with a bamboo chop stick
and served with frozen rain water as ice.

After a Mai Tai then 2 Cheater Fives it's time to try something new

1 1/2 oz Cruzan dark
2 oz Dole canned Pineapple juice
1/2 oz Lime juice
1/4 oz Falernum
1/4 oz Kern's Guava Nectar

Shake with 4 ice cubes strain into a mug add 1/2 cup crushed ice and float 1/2 oz Cruzan Black Strap.
