Queens Park Swizzle,...and it's kicking my ass!

what kind of rum?

S

A "Mai Tai" made with

Yes, a mix. But a REALLY GOOD mix. Not a traditional Mai Tai, in fact I don't know how to describe it, but real good none-the-less!!

Singapore Sling (1970's version) from Beachbum Berry's Remixed.

1970's version? ok, then.

Ti' punch here.

Yup, and it tasted a helluva lot better than the abominable concoction I was served at Raffles Hotel in Singapore back in 2000. There are 3 versions in Remixed: Donn Beach's (1930s), 1950s, and 1970s. There's also a Straights Sling recipe in Ted Haigh's Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, which the Singapore Sling is probably based on. I'll get around to all of them eventually.

what was the difference? pineapple juice?

Solera.

Yummy!

That, along with Cointreau, grenadine, and bitters.

M

Beretta Vendetta from Kahuna Kevin's book

Zacapa.

El Dorado 5 y.o., in a Guyanese Rum Punch.

A twist on the Jamaican Cocktail #3.
Dunno where my buddy got this revision, or if he came up with it himself, but it's really kind of freaking weird... and I mean that in a good way.
TASTY!
1.5oz Cruzan White
.5oz Blackstrap
.5oz Wray & Nephew Overproof
.5oz falernum
shake with ice and pour into tall glass, fill rest of way with ginger beer.

Next, I'm gonna try the traditional Jamaican #3 and contrast and compare.
God, I love research.

Okay... well... from time to time we MUST splurge.
We MUST give thanks to the Tiki gods and please them without hesitation.
So... now... I imbibe...
1oz Appleton Estate 21 Year
1oz El Dorado 12 Year Demerara
.5oz lime juice
.5oz orange curacao
.25oz orgeat
.25oz turbinado syrup

Good lord... I think I've found nirvana.

[ Edited by: CucamongaChango 2011-05-17 19:47 ]

sweet. what brands of orgeat and orange curacao?

Just Torani and DeKuyper.
The issue at hand is the Appleton 21 year and the El Dorado 12 year, though.
The "2112" Mai-Tai?
"We are the priests, of the temple, of hijinks."

in honor of Settende Mai, am drinking my first Viking Fogcutter.

Skal!

I have like one shot left of my bottle of ED 12. Its so smooth, i had to hunt down a bottle of ED 5 y.o. to try some of the demerara mixed drink recipes out there (would be waste to use the 12 y.o.).

havent had the good fortune yet of trying the appleton 21 y.o.

cheers!

Lovely rita I had to do it again. Cheap rum and I uprgraded to a pineapple coconut juice which that kind of lends some dignity the cheap rum. Not to bad actually

Zombies!

Mai Tai. I think i've found my mix-- 1 oz St James Ambre; 1.5 oz El Dorado 5 y.o....

I'm drinking right now "Apple juice" mine favorite...

The Bum's Ancient Mariner.
Delicious.

Tampa Town Planter's Punch

Another version of my classic low budget fixes: pinapple coconut juice blend, sweetened lemon juice, myers and cruzan, and a little club soda. Another glamorous drink from my "recession tiki drink menu"

Surf Club Mai Tai

a Jasper's Jamaican, double the rum (Appleton v/x).

Seedless watermelon is good right now. I put it in the blender to smooth it out and then add Appleton's, Trader Vic's dark and triple sec. Pour it over ice. I've sold a couple hundred of these in the past ten days. I do not blend with ice, it makes it too watery. Some people like a little mint in it.

From Beachbum Berry's "Remixed". The original recipe calls for 1 oz. of Orgeat, which was too much. On the second one, I cut back to 1/2 oz. and added a dash of grapefruit bitters. Perfect.

I am having a painkiller!
1/2 oz. Cruzan Blackstrap rum
1 1/2 oz. Lemon Hart 80
2 1/2 pineapple juice
1 1/2 oj
1 oz. coconut cream

Because I do not have Pusser's and probably never will.

Lapu Lapu with Tikiyaki spinning in the background!

shouldnt somebody named Loki be throwing in an aquavit float?

why not?

right now, I am on my second Fireman's Manhattan.

nothing tiki bout it, 'cept maybe the cherry.

Because Pusser's is on a campaign to sue bars and restaurants for serving painkillers without pusser's in the cocktail. :)

Had a Port Light

  • Wild Turkey 101
  • lemon
  • homemade grenadine
  • homemade passionfruit syrup

Earlier, I made a Vieux Carre, not tiki, but I love New Orleans

  • Old Overholt Rye
  • cheapo E&J Brandy
  • Carpano Antica Formula
  • Benedictine
  • dash of Peychaud's
  • dash of Angostura
S

Cider. With shots of gin with and a cider chaser. Not happy right now.

Mixed up a Fu Manchu from Remixed Sunday night. I liked it quite a bit, but the only limes available around here are just too sour to give it a proper go. For what I could do, it was tasty.

A Mai Tai of Smith & Cross and Plantation 5yr old, mmmmmmmm!

PP

a sharks tooth, found a copy of Trader Vic's drink guide!!!

Ohhhh,a Mai Tai with Smith & Cross and El Dorado 12 yr old . . . ahhhhhhh!

Spievak-Beach Zombie . . . goodnight!

The lawn is mowed, the basement carpet is shampooed. Brats are sizzling on the grill. Time for a Jet Pilot!

1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 oz. White Grapefruit Juice
1/2 oz. Homemade Cinnamon-sugar Syrup
1/2 oz. Fee Bros. Falernum
1 oz. Smith and Cross Jamaican Rum
3/4 oz. Appleton Gold Rum
3/4 oz. Lemon Hart Demerara 151 Rum
