I gotta join the Hang10tiki bar tour - it looks like good times!

My drinks tonight:

Simplified Zombie (pg 169, Remixed) - I used Appleton 12 & Lemon Hart 151 (usually I use Appleton Reserve as my everyday, but I'm out). After a taste, I added some Angostura & Pernod to jazz it up a bit & make it more like the original Zombie, ok drink but the LH151 is a bit dominant.

Simplified Zombie - I used Appleton 12 & Goslings 151 - again I added some Angostura & Pernod. Good drink (over the LH151 version), this may well be the Zombie that I make at home :)

Test Pilot - I used Appleton 12, Lemon Hart 151 & Havana Club Anejo Reserva (half measures of rum, 1/4 extra of each fruit juice). Not my first time making it, good drink. Surprising to me that I like this, given that I don't like the 1934 Zombie (& they share all ingredients except grenadine).

Tonight's drinks have been a bit similar! To break with the grapefruit / overproof theme, tonights last drink:

El Dorado 15

Tonight's drinks have been in honour of ebtiki (Eric) for trading me these 3 mugs:

Arnie has been in action in Terminator 2 on TV too! Cheers Eric :)

El Dorado 15 yr. Nice!

lately I am into ginger flavored drinks. I got hold of some ginger syrup and made this drink. I had to change it a little so it wasn't too strong in ginger/falernum flavor but otherwise I liked it.

Q B Cooler from Remixed

1 oz orange juice, I used fresh tangerine juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz honey mix
1/4 oz falernum, I used 1/8 oz
1 oz soda water
1 oz Jamaican rum, I used Smith & Cross
1 oz light Puerto Rican, I used Cruzan light
1/2 oz Demerara rum, I use Lemon Heart
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1/2 tsp. ginger syrup.
4 oz crushed ice
Put everything in blender. Blend 5 seconds high setting.

Hilda, that drink sounds ono! Dunno if you’re buying ginger syrup but here’s an easy peasy recipe. Keeps 2-3 weeks in the frig. Store bought keeps almost forever.
Cheers

Fresh Ginger Syrup
This syrup from Betty Fraser and Denise DeCarlo, owners of Grub in Hollywood, Calif., is fantastic in cocktails but it also makes an out-of-this-world ginger ale. To make ginger ale, simply fill an ice-filled glass a third of the way with the syrup, top with soda water and a squeeze of lime, stir and enjoy.

2 cups unpeeled, washed, fresh ginger, roughly chopped
2 cups sugar
6 cups water

Process ginger chunks in a food processor or blender until finely chopped. Place in a large stock pot. Add sugar and water to the pot and stir. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer over medium-low heat and cook for one hour until a rich syrup is created. Strain the syrup twice through cheese cloth or a sieve into a large jar or bottle. Refrigerate. I slice and chop the unpeeled ginger with a chefs knife since I don’t own a processor. Peel the ginger first for a lighter product

Happy national margarita day!

I know... The glass is strange. I hope you guys out in tikiland are celebrating with a marg too! :)

CeCe’s Special

4 oz OJ
1/4 oz Orgeat
1/4 oz Curacao
1/4 oz Passionfruit syrup*
1/4 oz ginger root syrup*
2 oz Appleton Estate VX
Squeeze of lime (Persian)
*Homemade

Prepared about 1/2 gallon a half hour before I arrived at My brother TikiVatos tiki bar.
Dropped a handful of brkn ice in a skaker and half filled it with the drink mixture . 10 shakes later I poured 2 drinks and did a repeat for two more. Garnished like a Mai Tai and got lotsa compliments. Me and CeCe drank out of our favorite mugs, Joe and Rosemary used dbl old fashions. The drink was about the color of a Meyer’s “Planters Punch”

Wished I’d made more-had to switch to Longboards and leave the hooch for the ladies

Nui- what, no photos at Vatos bar...
:(

Added some dark rum for #2

Hi Lori.
This drink leans toward the sweet side. That being said-it’s not syrupy sweet. I squeezed a little more lime juice into my mug and I really enjoyed this concoction. If you’re not already doing it try making your own syrups . It’s fun and easy and lets you puff your chest out when your guests compliment your mixology skills.

David- ill have to try dat as well
Just need your syrup recipe

Anyone seen the Porpoise, he's been quiet for a while.....

Tried it tonight, not to my favourite but worth a try.

Followed by:

Smith & Cross over ice ~ quickly turned into a old fashioned by some sugar & a half dash of bitters - good drink!
