I so rarely get a chance to enjoy a cigar anymore. The wife used to tolerate them and humor me in our honeymoon years but that was a long time ago. Sitting on the back porch thoroughly enjoying a cool night, a Hemmingway Classic and a generous pour of Kirk and Sweeny. The rum is a touch sweeter than my typical sippers but it is a PERFECT accompanyment to the mild spiciness of the Hemmingway.

Save a little of that K&S and mix up a Rum Babalu.
You just need some lime, bitters, and some of that Bundabrg ginger beer.
Cheers

Hurricane! From Remixed.

the first shipment to CA will land in SF tomorrow or Friday, weather permitting. The truck is coming from NJ so there's a lot of country to transverse. In CA call Bock for the store nearest you. 415.834.9675.

A shipment arrived yesterday in DC.
Other states that have been shipped are PA, GA, IL and WI.

Orders are being processed for FL, TX, WA and LA.

NY and NJ will be available Feb 1.

Still jumping through the hoops in LA and AZ.

I look forward to seeing your comments. And although the main interest appears to be 151, the 86 proof is pretty good too.

Jet Pilot.

Last night at Tiki Ti (sadly no photos to follow because my phone completely shattered the morning of):

-Ray's Mistake
-Rum Barrel
-Uga Booga
-Blood and Sand
-Ray's Mistake

That was actually my first time having a Mistake. I tried to not let the hype alter my opinions. I will say its a good drink but I'm not sure the Great One that so many people speak of. I am curious however to give our recipe from the forums a try.

bell's Kalamazoo stout. wintry good.

also, used the k'zoo stout and pussers rum to make a guinness-style-punch; somehow it was too bitter and 'off.'

Just had a DtB Navy Grog with Kohala Bay, ED 12, and Cruzan. Added 1/4 oz of St Elizabeth which took it to another level. Next time I'll try and remember to take the photo before I drink it...

Hi there!

If that picture is taken at your home bar... please share some more pics! It looks beautiful!!

Diablo

1 1/2 oz silver tequila, I used Patron silver
3/4 oz Creme de Casis, Boll's
3/4 oz Lime juice
ginger ale
Put all 3 ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake, strain into a collins glass full of ice top with ginger ale.
Very good

I had a bottle of Creme de Casis from a while ago, I usually make Ciro's Special from the Grog Log with the Creme de Casis. This was a pleasant surprise, very refreshing.

What a coincidence -I was thinking about an “El Diablo” cuz I found a bottle of ginger beer next to a half full bottle of tequila in my bar. Now I’ll have to try one with ginger ale as well. Here’s the Trader Vic El Diablo.

El Diablo

Juice from 1/2 lime
1 1/2 oz. tequila
1/2 oz creme de cassis
4-6 oz ginger beer

Squeeze lime into hiball glass-drop in shell.
add ice,tequila,and cassis.
fill glass with ginger beer and stir lightly. garnish with orange peel twist.
Cheers

A couple of “Jerks”, the house specialty at Minnie’s in Modesto,Calif. Not bad if you like frozen drinks. The barkeep was somewhat secretive about the ingredients but she did warn me that the straw was filled with 151. Was tempted to have a third but we wanted to check out the Tiki Cocktail Lounge just up the street. Btw, I have had Mai Tai’s at Minnies. The tiki ambience at Minnies is awesome but most of the tiki cocktails are forgettable. I’ll continue to visit Minnies for it’s tikiness and the most excellent Chinese fare served in the attached restaurant.

A ’44 Mai Tai and a Longboard beer. My better half had a Mai Tai and a Menehune Juice. We’re at Trader Vic’s Emeryville. Imho, this place should be a national shrine.
Gonna take a nap and then visit Forbidden Island.
Cheers

Ancient Mariner.

That's a nice cocktail right there Mike.

Mine's a Hurricane's Black Magic. Can't seem to find a finer drink, & lord knows I've tried!

Off topic, but how is that one? I love his earliest albums but find all the "Life" series ones to be too loungey and not exotic enough for my tastes. I actually just saw this one in a shop yesterday but picked up Denny's "Forbidden Island" with the foil lettering and tiki cover instead.

Have you tried his Mutiny?

I'm cozying up with the late winter beer trinity: a Porter (anchor), a Stout (bell's kalamazoo), and a Scotch Ale (founders)...

Drinks at Trader Vic’s Emeryville this afternoon;

Tonight I'm checking out Lost Lake, the signature drink at Paul McGee's new Tiki bar in Chicago ...

Great classic-style cocktail, perfectly balanced.

I found the recipe here:

I have, and it's delicious. In fact, I've tried everything on the Hurricane menu. I find myself making his Mai-Kai tributes more often than anything else. Mahalo Hurricane!

The Black Magic is by far my favorite though. Just something amazingly unique about that drink, if it's done right.

For the record, I use Hawaiian Isles Kona Classic for the coffee (double strength, just under an oz; World Market carries it), and Monin honey syrup for the honey. I find these 2 ingredients really bring a lot to this cocktail, for my taste.

Mahalo for all the kind words! Of course, all the inspiration comes from a certain establishment on Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdaele. Tonight, we entered a new era...

Two 151 Swizzles, passing of the torch from Goslings 151 (right, standing in for the previous standard 151 Demerara rum, Lemon Hart) to the new contender, Hamilton Demerara Overproof 151 (left). My quick review: The Hamilton rum adds a richer, smokier flavor that was missing with Goslings. I can taste extra heat that even Lemon Hart didn't provide, along with those familiar Demerara flavor notes.

Okole maluna!

Friday night started with Three Dots and a Dash then moved on to a Pearl Diver's Punch then ended with a 1944 Mai Tai.

Tonight had a Demerara Dry Float than another Three Dots.

I think I'm good 'till next weekend.

aloha, tikicoma

Quickie Mai-Kai side trip and a tasty K.O. Cooler.

The Mai-Kai Jet Pilot made with Hamilton 151 was drink 2 last night. It was excellent.

I'm doubling my pleasure with two Zombies (Mai-Kai tribute recipe) ...

It's Lemon Hart vs. Hamilton ... winner take all. The result: A split decision. Lemon Hart a bit smoother, Hamilton a bit stronger. Pick your poison.

A Mai Tai, but I'm out of simple syrup, so I added a little extra orgeat and a strong dash of Disaronno, oh and for rum, this time I used Appleton's V/X and Cruzan Black Strap.

I'd never tried this combo but I'd always wanted to...

I finally got some Blackstrap so here it is:

My delivery of the Hamilton Demeraras are en route, but in the meantime, my pursuit of replacing (yellow label) Lemon Hart 151 was already in motion. Today I drew 10 ounces off a small barrel of El Dorado 151 that had been aging 15 days. It tasted great so I thought I might keep some going to see if it could be even better. Great, but nothing like LH 151 flavor-wise. This is all about oak and much mellower than the original ED 151, but unquestionably demerara.

Okay, so the reason I am posting on this thread is because here is what I am drinking now - and it's killing! I made a Mai Tai with my aged El Dorado 151 with a float of Hamilton Black Jamaican. I am sure that once I get a hold of the Hamilton Demerara 151, I will be floating that on my Mai Tais, but for right now, this is working way more than fine. Oh, but this is also a knockout.... woooo!

Cheers!

Started to prep a delicious Demerara Dry Float thanks to Hurricane Hayward...until I realized I didn't have a lemon. =\ Instead, polished a Jet Pilot, Navy Grog, Navy Grog.

Long time no drink. Was due for a Mai Tai. Clement VSOP, Appleton 12, Creole Shrubb, Reynold's orgeat, and LH151 float.

By the time i get to Vesper things get a bit fuzzy ..i do remember them having a very good Corpse Reviver last time i was there.

Bacon Bloody and an Ass Juice at Double Down

Luna, I find that both funny & nauseating :D

Congopete - that sounds awesome! Post those drinks next time.

Atomic Tiki Punk - not too tasty but a great punk bar none the less. I think the Ass Juice is Peach Schnapps.
