The Coconut Club now operates about once a month at Clifton's Pacific Seas in downtown Los Angeles. If you join and become a member, it gets you priority admission to their events, along with a "passport" which is stamped each time you buy a cocktail. The cocktails are inventive, it's a great place (of course!), and the members are fun (and funny), particularly the ones who run the event. This cocktail -- "Drunken Noodles, The Cocktail" -- was described by them in their menu, as follows: |

MDM, Coconut Club started out as a pop up tiki bar in LA. You can go onto their website and sign up for their email list to get notifications on when they are hosting. This is sure to be the best (everything) you will ever get at Cliftons :) |

Zombie at Clifton's the other night. The menu hasn't been updated yet, but they've got a new recipe that's closer to Don's original formula but with a touch of allspice. Not too bad. |

Smoked OF at the Market Broiler in Ontario Mills. Never would have expected to find a drink like this at a mall restaurant, especially on the happy hour menu. |

Smuggler's Cove bum boats, in the recommended pineapple - at home. :D Sorry for the ugly white space! - These were so worth the effort of coring then freezing the fruit. Very interesting play between the almond extract, Gosling 151, cinnamon syrup and fresh pineapple. Developed in a very tasty way as the drink became diluted with the gradually thawing pineapple. |

Not to blow my own trumpet too much but our guests were blown away - a real set piece. |

Started with French 75’s, 2nd was a Mai Tai using a 20 dollar bottle of Orgeat. I expected a lot for 20 bucks and this product delivered. I like Longboard beer and usually avoid the other Kona Brewing products. This particular beer has a strong finish with a pronounced taste of ginger. I like it.

A sort of rum Manhattan, but not really - I got this Borsci on holiday in Italy, it's and amaro but most people put it on ice cream. It's a bittersweet aparetif with notes of coffee and cocoa nibs. I really like it by itself. Anyway this drink has 1.25 oz Appleton 12, 1 oz Plantation 5yo, a half oz of Borsci and a quarter oz sweet vermouth. I added a scant squirt of maple syrup to round the edge off. It's delicious (although tbh i think almost any liqueur would have worked, but it's nice that it brings out the rich chocolatey notes in these rums. This works even better with La Hachicera! This damn phone keep orientating my photos sideways, sorry all! |

Had a Rum Barrel for starters. Hurricane Haywards version is my favorite. Finished up with some Plantation 20th anniversary. I really like this rum( I’m partial to Bajan rums) It’s a bit Strong on the nose but It’s smooth as silk as a sipper. |

My apologies for the extended absence from this thread. But believe me, I have not been slacking on the cocktails. Tonight, it's a relatively obscure version of Vic's Navy Grog from Dale DeGroff (glassware by Tiki Diablo) ... A tasty take on the classic. I swapped out the rums to Coruba, Ron del Barrilito and El Dorado 8. Events, music, art, cocktails, culture [ Edited by: Hurricane Hayward 2017-07-07 23:57 ] |
