Cobra’s Fang one of my all time favorites. Note the Heresy garnish (Vic’s cocktail stick in DTB drink). I like to include the snake in my Cobra’s Fang even though it’s not traditional.

I should have asked. I know there was Coruba and another unmarked bottle that was probably a blend. The menu says "Aged Martinique and Jamaican rums", and on the back bar there was Rhum JM VO and dark and light bottles of Neisson. |

Re the Mai Tai at Latitude 29 ... I know that the Bum traditionally prefers equal parts dark Jamaican and aged rhum agricole. His website says Appleton, the liquor.com recipe says Coruba. Both say Rhum Clement. The Imbibe link offers some other suggestions. Unconfirmed, but I've heard that they may also add a half ounce of Hamilton 151 to give it a boost. https://beachbumberry.com/recipe-mai-tai.html https://www.liquor.com/recipes/mai-tai/ https://imbibemagazine.com/recipe/recipe-mai-tai/ |

I used Matt Pietrik's Analog Fassionola. Very flavorful and easy to make. If you make a batch you might want to consider halving it, it make a BIG batch of Fassionola. I put it in 3 bottles. Give one away, froze one, and an using the third. |

Mourning the loss of the Aku Aku tiki bar (one week late) with a 1934 Zombie. I am super bummed that I didn’t get to visit Oslo while the Aku Aku was still operational, since I feel like Oslo has the tightest Tiki community closest to me. The rum eases the pain though. I subbed the falernum with pimento dram and the results were great! |

I found an inexpensive vial of gold flakes and created a cocktail around it. The drink that goes with Tikiland's Mansion Stanchion mug Brian Maxwell's Your Wheel of Fortune "Before & After" cocktail comes from a song by Toots & the Maytals and a Denzel Washington movie A Filipino friend gifted me some Filipino Tanguay spiced rum. So I mixed it with ube and marya-marya to make Brian Maxwell's Jason Alexander's Cannibal Cooler Anthony Downing's |

While technically not "right now", I recently enjoyed a sneak preview of the cocktails at Morgan's Cove, the new Gantt Reserve Collection bar from Don the Beachcomber in downtown Tampa. Mahalo to Marie King and her staff for both elevating some classics when appropriate while also delivering perfect versions of Donn's originals. Good examples were the Mac Nut Pearl Diver (left), and the Demerara Dry Float: Check out my sneak peek, including an exclusive look at the menu and review of the cocktails: https://www.slammie.com/atomicgrog/blog/2024/07/19/photos-video-don-the-beachcomber-launches-morgans-cove-speakeasy-in-tampa/ |

So many delicious photos. last night, bottle of dregs collected over the last yester-year; aged rums, aged tequilas, scotch and bourbon. overall tasted like a dark Jamican rum with hints of smokey peat. Made a quicky last night that resembled a Portlight cocktail, the way I was intruced to it as a scotch based drink years ago. Cheers everybody! |
