Mr. Bali Hai, signature drink of the Bali Hai restaurant. Recipe from Total Tiki app.

Pelorus, Respectfully, are you referring to the Bali Hai on Shelter Island (San Diego, Calif.) or is there another B H that I need to know about?
Cheers

Navy Grog, in honor of Sinatra, while watching the original Oceanā€™s 11

Working on a tribute to the Cotton Mouth Killer from Trailer Happiness ...

As served at The Hukilau 2018 ...

It's a slightly different recipe than the one published in the 10th anniversary edition of Sippin Safari ...

Okole maluna!

Last nightā€™s Navy Grog.
Havenā€™t had one in a bit and last night felt like the night to remedy that.

Mai Kai's 1960 recipe "Big Bamboo", via the Total Tiki app.

Grapefruit juice is pronounced in this. Tart and bitter rather than very sweet. I like it.

Rainmakers and pupus at the Tonga Room after an afternoon admiring the tropical flora in the conservatory. I tried their Jet Pilot too, but I must admit that HH's Mai Kai Jet Pilot is the last word in that family of drinks as far as I'm concerned. No beating it.

Then a "Shang Hai Mai Tai" in the bar above China Live while we waited for our table. I tend to shy away from any "Mai Tai" that doesn't specifically cite Trader Vic or the year 1944 as their recipe, but this one was okay. It's sort of a hybrid between an actual Mai Tai and Vic's Eastern Sour: scotch, rum, lime, and orgeat.

It's National Pina Colada Day so I made a Pina CoKRAKEN

Never been to China Live before but I might have to pop in after work one day - that sounds delicious.

It's a nice place. The bar is pretty ritzy looking and the food is good. I didn't take pictures but they had some dishes that would be perfectly at home on an old DtB menu. The Kung Pao there is a nontraditional take made with big belts of some kind of sweet, fruity dried chile that you can just pop in your mouth rather than the super hot little peppers, and their xiao long bao and sheng jian bao are also really good.

Brilliant, thanks for the tips! When I am up in that part of town I go to old faves and the exterior of China Live has always been underwhelming to me so it'll be nice to try out something new.

Alchemist Heady Topper beer. One of my all-time favorites and hard to get in New York.

Made my lady a Kelboā€™s Scorpion tonight, though, and that was delish.

Hi Amy, are dem bitters available locally in San Diego or did you get em online ?
Mahalo

Hi, Nui! I spotted them while browsing on Amazon one day and decided to give them a try. I don't think I've seen them in a local store yet.

El Guapo Bitters Polynesian Kiss

(We use the Bittermens 'Elemakule Tiki bitters more often, but the Polynesian Kiss are nice & are more subtle.)

Original

Plantation Pineapple

Rum Babaluā€™s. Perfect on a hot and sultry SoCal evening.

Putting the white Jamaican overproof rums to the Daiquiri test ...

The winner, by a nose: Wray & Nephew. It's a little more complex and mixes better in a Daiquiri. Rum Fire and Rum Bar not far behind.

The Bumā€™s description is pretty accurate, but I do think itā€™s a nice option for a brunch cocktail. Plus, it seems to me like itā€™s an ancestor to the Rayā€™s Mistake.

I finally got a bottle of Rum Fire yesterday - so excited to do a daiquiri test vs. Wray & Nephew myself.

It's a little cliche this week, but it's hard to beat The Mai-Kai's Shark Bite ...

Tribute recipe and updated review on The Atomic Grog ... https://wp.me/p1xHjT-k6

A couple of vacation drinks

Kraken Cuba Libre with fish and chips at Burroughs Market in London

Ultimate Old Town San Diego tourist drink - Margarita with Blue Curacao, Coconut Tequila, Orange Cointreau, and Pineapple Juice in a souvenir cup. In our defense it was breakfast and it was in lieu of juice

Rum Barrels . Hurricane Haywards version.
Delish-Mahalo Jim.

All vintage drink recipes turned into superb beverages. Pagu Club Cocktail, Aviation Cocktail, Last Word. also a Sky Piulot, made with Applejack, lime juice and more. Was my first time at Varnish, a kinda speakeasy place at the rear of Coleā€™s, a deli at 6th and Main, Downtown L A.

Nice calendar

Finally got to try some Denizen Merchant Reserve and Ferrand CuraƧao, via mail order. I definitely thought moving from an ABC state (NC) to AZ would make liquor selections better but not so far. Thanks Internet.

Not a shabby Mai Tai.

Mojitos made with home grown mint and the bottom half of my last bottle of Havana Club.Brings back wonderful memories of the beautiful people of Cuba.

Miehana Cocktail.

1 oz lime juice

1 oz OJ

Used my newly-made orgeat tonight. Mai Tais for everyone...

...and a Desert Oasis Daiquiri after everyone left.

An updated tribute to The Hukilau from The Mai-Kai, in the works for The Atomic Grog ...

Even though I've finally been dragged onto Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/theatomicgrog/), I still enjoy posting photos here first for the true Tiki cocktail nerds :>)

I have a ridiculous amount of mint so I've been experimenting with mojitos lately. And failing. Failing miserably.

What is the recipe you use?
