Presently I'm quaffing a...um, margarita. Yeah, I know it's not tiki, but when I got home from work tonight I reached blindly into the liquor cabinet. When I pulled out my hand, there was a bottle of tequila in it. How about I toss a pineapple slice speared with an umbrella into the glass while humming "Tiny Bubbles"? Not the same, I know... |

I'm coming out of a self imposed cocktail and rum free 10 weeks. I thought it was time I gave my liver and ever expanding waistline a break. So as of 16th March, I can resume normal consumption, and partake in my first cocktail in a while. Rather than waste time on that night deciding what to have I thought I'd ask the question here: What would be a couple of good cocktail choices to get me started again next week? |

First I had a Rum Barrel. Now I'm drinking Don's Beach Planter. Sooo good. Hmm, I still have about a half ounce of lime juice left. What do, what do. Got some coconut milk that needs to be used, perhaps a Moonkist Coconut is next? Edit: Moonkist Coconut it is and duuude this is good. [ Edited by: mamelukkikala 2012-03-09 15:41 ] |

I started this evening off with a "Bum Barrel" thanks to the previous post. Remixed page 175, it was very good, I slurped it down too fast and could feel my cheeks flush from the 4 ounce rum hit! I waited almost an hour and made a "Baron Samedi" on the same page, it is......different. I used St.James Royal Amber rum, homemade cinnamon syrup, John Taylor Falernum and fresh squeezed lime juice. Would I have another? Yes! I did not garnish it with a gris-gris I hope I don't get pregnant. :) :) :drink: Cheers! Chris |

Drinking the Caribbean Corpse Reviver... 3/4 oz Banks rum Shake with ice, strain into cocktail glass. Found this tasty little number on the Cocktail Virgin Slut blog during one of my daily pilgrimages with credit to bartender Seth Freidus at Eastern Standard. The tropical vermouth is apparently made in-house and flavored with lemon zest and kiwi. I infused Noilly Prat with those ingredients in a cream whipper. I have no reference to compare it to so I have no idea how close I got to the original drink but I was very happy with the end result regardless. |

Moonshine......with a side of Moonshine! Well Hellz-a-Poppin Bubba, we be Back Woods Mixa-oligists!!! YEEEHAAAAAA.... You can make yur own: "genuine" moonshine recipe 5 gallon bucket all grain horse feed (we use MannaPro Hi Grain sweet feed) Put enough feed to cover bottom of 5 gallon bucket a good 4 inches deep Add 5 pounds of sugar. Fill 1/2 full with warm water--warm enough to melt sugar but not so hot as to kill yeast. Mix until sugar is dissolved. Add yeast and mix some more finish filling with warm water--again not so hot to kill the yeast. Cover with lid--our lid has a little cap that screws on, leave it loose to breathe. 4-5 days later it's ready to run! This is an old-timer recipe and works quite well. Our liquor is always 170-190 proof. You can substitute corn meal for the grain (horse feed) but I don't recommend this for pot stills cuz you can't filter it well enough. The meal will settle and burn in the bottom of your still. The old-fashion way of making corn liquor--with real corn--just is not feasible time wise. Fell in love with the "Tiki Bob" mug after seeing it in the "Tiki +" app. The app and "Remixed" book shows the mug with the "Fogg Cutter" recipe. Bought a Tiki Bob mug from eBay last month and decided to get wrecked with a Fogg Cutter this evening. Just finished it and typing this is getting to be quite difficult...! Jeff Berry's copy for the Fogg Cutter was right on.... Thiss iss onee potentt cocktaill...........! |

I think I got it from the Atomic Grog website. It starts out as the "Navy Grog" and becomes a "Yeoman's Grog" with the addition of the pimento liquer. Unfortunately the printout I made doesn't say, but I'm pretty sure that's where I got it. I bet you feel more like you do now now than you did when you came in. Made a Nui Nui. It was kinda weak. A bit watery and not enough flavor. I added more syrup which made it better, but still it was just ok. Never been a huge fan of this drink, even though it sounds delicious. This time I tried it with Havana Club 7 and still, it's just a mediocre drink, atleast for my tastes. Oh well. At the moment I'm savouring a modified version of Cobra's Fang. Probably the best version I've made so far. Would've been perfect with a dash of grenadine, but I didn't have any so no can do. Still, an amazing drink. |
