Had a late dinner, just made it downatairs. Watching Hawaii 5-0 on Netflix Streaming and drinking a Mai Tai made with La Favorite Vieux & Appleton Reserve. Maita'i roa a'e!

Presently I'm quaffing a...um, margarita. Yeah, I know it's not tiki, but when I got home from work tonight I reached blindly into the liquor cabinet. When I pulled out my hand, there was a bottle of tequila in it. How about I toss a pineapple slice speared with an umbrella into the glass while humming "Tiny Bubbles"? Not the same, I know...

Q

Just had my first original Zombie after finally gathering all ingredients. Homemade Falernum (#8), BG Reynolds Don's Mix, Cruzan aged Gold, Appleton 12 and LH 151. Wow... Just wow. If this is what the undead feel like all the time, then sign me up! hahaha.
I can see why two was the limit.

Cheers!

Advocaat, Cointreau, lime juice, lemon juice, LH80 . . . not too shabby, but one's enough, quite rich . . .

Zadaran Storm

Homemade raspberry syrup & vanilla syrups, Reed's Extra Ginger Brew, Appleton 12 year.

Recipe in "Remixed" page 217

At Trader Dicks in Reno drinking my first Backscratcher....it is actually quite delicious. Before that I had several Kahlua & Diet Cokes....sure nobody will approve of that concoction...lol.

Fogcutter

1 1/2 oz rum
1/2 oz brandy
1/4 oz gin
1 1/2 oz OJ

My own little concoction (I think); Capt Morgan, mango nectar, guava nectar, passion fruit juice & coconut cream. Trying to finish off a bottle of the capt so I can justify buying more (better) rum!

Just finished a Steve Crane Scorpion Bowl. Moving on to a Mai Tai.

2005 Lucas Barbera, very nice, very nice!

Island hopper

2 oz spiced rum
1 oz coconut rum
1 oz raspberry vodka
1 oz cream of coconut
4 oz pineapple juice
2 oz OJ

A Manhattan from the Tropicale restaurant in Palm Springs. And where are you drinking right now?

Skinny dipper

2 oz melon liqueur
8 oz cranberry
2 tsp lemon juice

After last nights tornado activity in my neck of the woods, I thought I'd celebrate coming through unscathed with a few Dark & Stormies.

W

Tequila and grapefruit juice. Sorta cuz it goes with dinner. A theme.

TT

Something kinda Navy Grogish...

Nice looking and sounding Mai Tais

I'm coming out of a self imposed cocktail and rum free 10 weeks. I thought it was time I gave my liver and ever expanding waistline a break. So as of 16th March, I can resume normal consumption, and partake in my first cocktail in a while. Rather than waste time on that night deciding what to have I thought I'd ask the question here: What would be a couple of good cocktail choices to get me started again next week?

If it were me, I'd start with a 1934 Zombie, followed with a Navy Grog chaser....

What a most excellent choice.

Oh yeah!! To hell with your liver! :)

(I agree by the way, great choices)

Cheers!

Clear, concise and perfect. That's my start to the evening. Mahalo

First I had a Rum Barrel. Now I'm drinking Don's Beach Planter. Sooo good. Hmm, I still have about a half ounce of lime juice left. What do, what do. Got some coconut milk that needs to be used, perhaps a Moonkist Coconut is next?

Edit: Moonkist Coconut it is and duuude this is good.

I started this evening off with a "Bum Barrel" thanks to the previous post. Remixed page 175, it was very good, I slurped it down too fast and could feel my cheeks flush from the 4 ounce rum hit!

I waited almost an hour and made a "Baron Samedi" on the same page, it is......different. I used St.James Royal Amber rum, homemade cinnamon syrup, John Taylor Falernum and fresh squeezed lime juice. Would I have another? Yes!

I did not garnish it with a gris-gris I hope I don't get pregnant. :) :) :drink:

Cheers!

Chris

Just had 3 very yummy ice cold Lemon Drops at the Claim Jumper...might be a new favorite drink for me!!!

Enjoying Zombies with spousal unit and 89-year old mother-in-law who loves it (reduced her drink size to keep her in this dimension). Made with B.G. Reynolds Don's Mix.

Best regards to all,

I hope I'm drinking Zombies at 89 years young!! Just curious... Was it a 1934 Zombie or another recipe?

Cheers!

Strong coffee . . . doing my taxes! When I'm done, a couple of the 1934 Zombies to kill the pain!

Drinking the Caribbean Corpse Reviver...

3/4 oz Banks rum
3/4 oz house tropical vermouth
3/4 oz falernum
3/4 oz lime juice
1 dash Bittermens Elemakule Tiki bitters

Shake with ice, strain into cocktail glass.

Found this tasty little number on the Cocktail Virgin Slut blog during one of my daily pilgrimages with credit to bartender Seth Freidus at Eastern Standard. The tropical vermouth is apparently made in-house and flavored with lemon zest and kiwi. I infused Noilly Prat with those ingredients in a cream whipper. I have no reference to compare it to so I have no idea how close I got to the original drink but I was very happy with the end result regardless.

Cranberry n Ron Vicardo Rum

Moonshine......with a side of Moonshine!
If ya put it a city slicker "Martini" drinking cup, Ya got a "Redneck Martini"

Well Hellz-a-Poppin Bubba, we be Back Woods Mixa-oligists!!! YEEEHAAAAAA....

You can make yur own:

"genuine" moonshine recipe

5 gallon bucket all grain horse feed (we use MannaPro Hi Grain sweet feed)
one package of yeast (using bread yeast now--others will increase quality and ferment time)
5 pounds sugar
water

Put enough feed to cover bottom of 5 gallon bucket a good 4 inches deep Add 5 pounds of sugar. Fill 1/2 full with warm water--warm enough to melt sugar but not so hot as to kill yeast. Mix until sugar is dissolved. Add yeast and mix some more finish filling with warm water--again not so hot to kill the yeast. Cover with lid--our lid has a little cap that screws on, leave it loose to breathe.

4-5 days later it's ready to run! This is an old-timer recipe and works quite well. Our liquor is always 170-190 proof. You can substitute corn meal for the grain (horse feed) but I don't recommend this for pot stills cuz you can't filter it well enough. The meal will settle and burn in the bottom of your still. The old-fashion way of making corn liquor--with real corn--just is not feasible time wise.

Fell in love with the "Tiki Bob" mug after seeing it in the "Tiki +" app.

The app and "Remixed" book shows the mug with the "Fogg Cutter" recipe.

Bought a Tiki Bob mug from eBay last month and decided to get wrecked with a Fogg Cutter this evening.

Just finished it and typing this is getting to be quite difficult...!

Jeff Berry's copy for the Fogg Cutter was right on.... Thiss iss onee potentt cocktaill...........!

XL Pirate's Grog

4oz light rum
2oz spiced rum
4 tbsp amaretto
4 tbsp grenadine
2 tsp lime juice
2 tsp lemon juice

Shaken n placed in a mug...
Which one, I know,
My little shrunken head Munktiki mug

Strong one

Last night
Yeoman's Grog:
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz white grapefruit juice
3/4 oz Seltzer water (no salt)
1/2 oz Honey mix - I use a 2/1 mix of honey to water and for this drink I cut the honey mix portion in half as I want it in the background with the chorus . . . not up front doing a solo.
1 oz light Virgin Island rum (Cruzan)
1 oz dark Jamaican rum (Appleton 12yo)
1 oz Demerara rum (El Doradeo 12yo)
1/4 oz pimento liquer - Berry Hill

A nice un-complicated drink to relax with after a trying day!

Only a tiki person could call a drink with 8 ingredients "un-complicated"!

hangman, where did you get the title for that drink?

Ha! So true!

hangman, where did you get the title for that drink?

I think I got it from the Atomic Grog website. It starts out as the "Navy Grog" and becomes a "Yeoman's Grog" with the addition of the pimento liquer. Unfortunately the printout I made doesn't say, but I'm pretty sure that's where I got it.

I bet you feel more like you do now now than you did when you came in.

Zombie (the original)

Thanks to WestAdad for sending me the original 151 proof Lemon Hart, I was finally able to make this drink.

3/4 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. Don's Mix (2 parts grapefruit to 1 part cinnamon infused sugar)
1/2 oz Falernum (Fee Bros)
1 1/2 oz gold Puerto Rican, I use Lemon Heart Demerara regular
1 1/2 ox aged Jamaican, used Coruba :(
1 oz. 151 proof Lemon Heart
Dash Angostura bitters
teaspoon grenadine, I used Monin
6 drops Pernod
6 oz crushed ice.

yum! thanks Chris. :)

While Hilda went with a classic, I created a bastard stepchild by combining 2 drinks: Donga Punch and Wray & Ting. Vons Organics Grapefruit Italian Soda, cinnamon syrup, Cruzan, and a touch of lime juice - prettee tastee

W

Hi Hilda, you're very welcome! The Zombie is one of my favorites too. Mike, that's a great combo you've got there too!

Looking forward to this evening, Mai Tai here I come.

Cheers!

Chris

Made my first proper Q.B. Cooler. This drink used to be good, but now that I made it with all the proper ingredients, it's just simply amazing. Donn, you were a genius. Now off to make me a Yeoman's Grog!

Rompope and LH151 . . . my version of hot milk before bedtime :)

sad home attempt at a 3 rum scum

Made a Nui Nui. It was kinda weak. A bit watery and not enough flavor. I added more syrup which made it better, but still it was just ok. Never been a huge fan of this drink, even though it sounds delicious. This time I tried it with Havana Club 7 and still, it's just a mediocre drink, atleast for my tastes. Oh well.

At the moment I'm savouring a modified version of Cobra's Fang. Probably the best version I've made so far. Would've been perfect with a dash of grenadine, but I didn't have any so no can do. Still, an amazing drink.

H

Original Zombie, again...
