Easy there, alcy. We're drinking - and lots are probably at Tiki Caliente, too busy having fun to post pics! Boo Loo, in a pineapple for the wife and I. A fantastic day for it, swooped up the idea on a whim while I was out doing errands.

Last few for a while so I thought I'd post pics :)

I've heard of Tiki Caliente but don't know what it is - anyone care to enlighten me?

Cobras Fang

(Might be my favorite)

AdOrAdam, TikiCaliente is a Tiki Event held each May in Palm Springs. Bands, vendors, etc. Triple digit temps this weekend so lots of swimming and lots of drinking. Intentionally much smaller and more controlled than San Diego's Tiki Oasis which is held in August.

Yes Adam,
Hotter than Satans balls out here in the desert. The drinks are great and the new Tonga Hut is the biz! It is a good time, our first Caliente. Hot but very fun.

Vicious Wahine

AdOrAdam,
You need to use the 7 yr and Mexican coke

and throw in 1/4 oz lime juice, not just a lime wedge.

round here many call it a Mentirita...

UK uses cane sugar too apparently, so it should be similar to the "Mexican" Coke.

The reason I use the quotes is because Mexico switched over to HFCS and now only uses cane sugar for the stuff they sell to gringos.

many poopoo the New Belgium beers nowadays, but damn the Spring Blonde ale is good, esp. w/maryland crab cakes in aioli sauce and crinkled french fries in old bay seasoning...

Just settled into a nice Krakatoa Punch, using Trader Sam's recipe… And I've got dry ice and mood lighting set up on my mug collection.

Hey Eppie,
Do you have a link to dat recipe?
Mahalo

sure thing! Pop me a DM/personal message so I remember to upload it when I get home. :)

Krakatoa-

1.5 ounces of dark rum
.5 ounce of orange juice
1.5 ounce of pineapple juice
1 ounce of cream of coconut (I would stir/whip this before you add it. The stuff I used was a little clumpy)

Shake with crushed ice. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Ah that must be their version of the Painkiller, aka Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum, and that recipe is available all over the place. The Krakatoa Punch has their Gorilla Grog amongst other things. "Reserve and Spiced Rums, Tropical Juices, Orgeat (Almond) Syrup, Sam's Gorilla Grog, and Hibiscus Grenadine."

Let it be known that the Krakatoa Punch recipe is still untamed!

Untamed?

Very nice evening. Would have had mo drinks at the hut but we had wine with our dinner a bit earlier and I’m to old for a dui. Loved the look of the Tonga Hut Palm Springs.

Hit up Tiki Ti Friday afternoon to let LA weekend traffic settle. 10 minutes south to the Ti, or 1.5 hrs north home?

Jealous of the Tiki Ti drinks...

Mai Tai

Quick FYI for SD peeps...
The new OB Noodlehouse is now open. Went last night and it is great! The food is the best and this new one is a whiskey bar. They have lots of classic cocktails and it is worth checking out.

Nuther

From Beachbum Berry's Potions of the Caribbean, page 181 "Myrtle Bank Punch".
There are two very different drinks here, one by Trader Vic and the other by Don the Beachcomber.

I tried the Beachcomber's first and was, admittedly, disappointed. This drink used dark Jamaican rum, gold Jamaican rum (I used Coruba and Appleton Estates Special), lime and white grapefruit juice, Don's honey, soda water and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. To me, it lacked the complexity and craftsmanship I've come to expect from DTB. In short, I was unimpressed.

Then, I tried the Trader Vic version using Lemon Hart 151, maraschino liqueur, lime juice, white sugar and grenadine. I must admit this is the first drink I've made where Lemon Hart 151 flew solo! Nontheless, once it watered down a bit, (my first sip was a shock to the system), it was quite tasty and the reason for using Lemon Hart 151 alone became apparent . . . it's depth of flavor played well with the other ingredients. I made another. . . but now I have to take a nap!

Since it was a Mexican food night, pomegranate margarita using the fruit from my trees.

Sipping some mighty fine Grassl gentian liqueur from the alpine heights of southern Bavaria.

It's not tiki, but hell, it's damn good!

Had an epic Mai Tai at the Mai Kai, tonight. Amazing.

Jungle Boid. used orgeat in lieu of simple syrup. nice...

Montana beer run

K

Old picture but same glass, same drink: navy grog.

A "FrankenMai Tai"

There was nothing good on TV so I thought I'd play around a bit behind the bar. I usually have a good quantity of my home-made Mai Tai Mix in the fridge (orange Curacao, Orgeat and simple syrup) to speed up the process when I crave a Mai Tai. Today, I used 1/2 oz Senior orange curacao, 1/2 oz. orgeat and 1/2 oz of cinnamon syrup and 1/2 os of white grapefruit juice and a dash of Angostura bitters and 1 oz of fresh lime juice. For the rums I used equal parts Coruba and El Dorado 5 year old.

The FrankenMai Tai is alive!

I bet you feel more like you do now now than you did when you came in.
